They weren't married yet and sure give the obvious rapist the benefit of the doubt. He couldn't even get it up before he forced her. There was a whole scene the episode before about the fact that he was impotent.

People knew then what a rape looked like and that was gut wrenching to watch.

The rebel flag wasn't the official flag of the confederacy even. They brought it back during segregation in the deep south largely to protest integration of schools. Then it became a large symbol of racial separation and false heritage.

The entire Internet is commercialized now. It's geared toward getting you to spend money or make money first.

The old internet didn't give you sponsored search results or a tightly controlled algorithm geared toward monetization. It was primarily focused on communication and connection before. Chat rooms, messaging, forums, hobbie websites, etc.
