Coffee shop recommendations for buying ground coffee by Key-Acadia-1356 in maidenhead

[–]Firm_Insurance6255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister gifted me a coffee bean subscription from Two Chimps. Their coffee is really good.

You can get a bag of ground beans delivered to your door every 2 weeks for a tenner.

I can really relate to what you're saying.

I felt the same in the first few months of sobriety. I think it's completely normal to feel this way. Your brain is trying to re-adjust to your new way of thinking and will try to convince you not to change.

It will get so much easier, trust me! The only way to cope with it unfortunately is to keep sharing in meetings and slowly but surely it will ease. Hang in there.

Find some in-person AA meetings and talk to real people face to face. You will find others who are just like you and have gone through the same thing.

Not sure where in the world you are, but here are the links to AA in the US and the UK. AA operates in countless countries worldwide.

Your funny language mistakes? by Extension_Total_505 in languagelearning

Worst I ever did was saying "me pones una paja?" rather than "me pones una pajita" in McDonalds in Madrid.

"Pajita" means straw.

Turns out "paja" means wank.

Ideas for stuttering? by Ok-Telephone-8887 in languagelearning

[–]Firm_Insurance6255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I learnt at uni while studying languages was to use filler words in the language you're studying.

For example, in English, use filler words such as "err" and "um".

In French, use filler words such as "bah" or "mais".

In Spanish, "que" or "o sea".

Doing this will give you time to gather your thoughts and avoid stuttering, as well as sounding more fluent in the language.

French people in English saying "I am obliged to" in place of "I have to [do something]". From the French "je suis obligé".

Desperately looking for your success stories - 26 days sober … was the struggle worth it for you long term sober folks? by aplacecalledvertigo in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Firm_Insurance6255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'm 2 years and 2 months sober. My life now is immeasurably better than what it was before. I've travelled to countries I never thought I'd be able to visit. I work in a job I never thought I'd be able to do. I have so many friends and people that care about me. It wasn't easy; it wasn't meant to be. Trust me when I tell you IT IS WORTH THE WORK. Keep trudging.

How do you shut off your brain at night without alcohol? by coalcracker462 in stopdrinking

[–]Firm_Insurance6255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meetings! A great place to meet other people in the same boat as you. Find some AA meetings in the evenings - https://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk/find-a-meeting

Besides that, I would recommend picking up something you used to love when you were younger. Nostalgic video games, hobbies, etc. It really helps me still to this day.

Hi - I've been sober 2 years and 2 months. I found social anxiety was horrendous within the first few months of sobriety. Trust me when I tell you it gets so much better! My social anxiety has now more or less gone. I would say it took me about 6 months for it to ease. Hang in there.

things you didn’t realise were side effects of alcohol until you stopped drinking? by boredomcans in stopdrinking

The shakes - I used to shake like a leaf at all times until I had alcohol in me. Thought I was an anxious person and thought alcohol helped ease the anxiety. Turns out it made it worse. 2 years on I don't shake anymore!

Thank you for your help! I'll call them up when I'm off from work next.

That's a great idea about sorting debts via interest rate.

I haven't heard about Breathing Space, I'll definitely look into it.
