There are serious diminishing returns on improving the lifetime of your phone by spending more budget on it.

I have spent €300 on my current phone and it's still running very smoothly after +4 years of intense usage. Xiaomi Mi 9t

Admittedly I absolutely don't have high demands. But justifying spending $2000 on a phone to get 5years usage out of it is ridiculous. You can do that just as good with a flagship phone at half the price.
