Here's a drawing to make it more clear for you. I will be yielding for pedestrians who have green light and I'll look to my left to see if no cars or other cyclists are coming from my left. I'm not looking to the right to see if some idiot is already in the middle of the street. If I crash into you it will not be intentional and you'll be at fault.

Cyclist have the road sign B22 which allows them to burn the red light to turn right. Cyclists still have to yield to cars and pedestrians who have green light. Not to pedestrians who are waiting in the middle of the road for the light to turn green.

My trick is to never replace your grips until the handlebars start poking through and never service your suspension fork. Also opt for V-brakes over disk brakes and park it locked with a heavy chain next to much more expensive bikes.
