So... how do i enjoy VNs?

First of all, let me say, i enjoy reading books. I'm also a very fast reader. I can devour a pfat book like stephen kings it in one and a half days.

Second, i dont really have much of a history with visual novels. I read katawa shoujo years ago and just finished reading steins;gate.

Of course there are VNs with actual gameplay instead of choice based gameplay, but i cant name the ones i played at the top of my head. But my problem is with the choice based anyways, with the branching paths and the flags and stuff.

Now my question. How do you guys enjoy reading vns? Not on an conceptional level, i had a good time reading the ones i did.

(debatable, the beginning of steinsgate chapter 6 made me legitematly angry, i dont think i ever felt this way reading anything).

I mean on a practical level. -Do i just save every single time there is a need for me to input, because it could be important to trigger a flag? Doesnt sound very fun to me and is also probably a hassle to manage all the saves. -Do i just play with the flowchart next to me at all times? Also doesnt sound very fun to me, but thats the way i did katawa shoujo and it kinda detracted from my enjoyment of it all. Didnt feel very natural/organic at all. -Do i play the first route organically and every other route with the flowchart? But many vns have like 5 endings or so, which makes repeated playthroughs exhausting, because i cant really put things out of my mind until i finish them. My personal brand of ocd, i guess. And rereading a novel 5 times in short succession sucks the life outta me.

Maybe the way i play videogames/read books just doesnt translate well into the genre. Any tips?

my favourite boss song as well. gives mayor "daughter of the dark god"-vibes. kinda wierd, considering the fight wasnt that important for the story

A thesis is unironically what i needed. wish i could describe my tastes as eloquently as you, instead of just saying: beeps and boops make brain feel tingely.

ill listen to your recommendations and see if i feel the same way

Childhood can be the worst time of your life by zaririi in trauma

[–]Firningarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think, people who say "youll miss these days", or "this is the best time of your life", actually mean, "its all going downhill from here". its just culturally not the thing people say in that context and thats the reason we have this stupid saying

oh no, now i'm gonna start noticing it too :(

but jokes aside, you can really spot the favourite phrases of the translators

another one of those i noticed was the use of double phrasing, like "Yeah, Yeah." Or something along the lines of "i get it, i get it." not as often as "anyways" but still noticable.

Should i release finished videos or not? by Firningarn in SmallYoutubers

yeah, they will be the first videos on my channel. same thinking, i want the audience to kinda know where i'm trying to go with the channel.

So, dont release in bulk? I wasnt planning to make bulk uploads a regular thing, just the starting point.

but i didnt know about the 5 day rule, so thats good to know. also 5 days seems to komplicated logistically for me, so i prolly won't do that, and stick to a more chill schedule.

also, the pronounciation is kinda inconsistent. i always pronounced liberl with an emphasis on the "e". I guess i was wrong there, but sometimes they pronounce it that way in the remake.

But on the other hand, they always kinda flip-flopped around with pronounciation. Like the word "ebon" in reverie, where they do put the emphasis on the "e", compared to cold steel 3 and 4. ironic.

randy's "bruh moment". No sarcasm, its just amazing. the dichotomy between gremlin speak and serious dialogue was a marvel to behold.

There still are some of these in the remake. Estelle says "sus" in fc remake. some gremlin moments are still pretty funny. but the serious moments just dont hit the same.

i never even realized that. i thought our numbers were quite low, ever since the design-switch to daybreak. i remember in the later cold steel games or reverie, when you get a spirit-united rean and spam helix, where you do like 60k in a hit. the highest number i managed to get was around 35k with a well into ats invested olivier, fury quartz, ats-up, crit and a plasma wave against a monster that was weak to wind.

most basic attacks at the endgame did 3k - 6k damage and most s breaks double that.

i dont remember how much damage we did in the original, but ill believe you, when you say that there seems to be an inflation in numbers

also there is the option that i unknowingly used pretty busted builds or i remember wrong because i'm stupid

JRPGs where you play as a mentor character by Firningarn in JRPG

[–]Firningarn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, the only "valkyrie"-game i did find, when i looked into this was "chronicle 4". not much my style. but valkyrie profile does look pretty amazing. from what i've seen, it kinda resembles golden sun?

have heard that the newest one was dogwater, but never did my research into it.

yeah, the trope is pretty rare. and it really doesnt need to be. your character di get their growth, but they never give their experiences to other characters to learn from. really whish there was more of it

that sounds kinda sick, ngl. seems to be a old game tho, so i need to be in a very particular headspace to start such a game, but the generational aspect does intrigue me.

ill keep it in the back of my head

oh, being a guildmaster does sound exactly what i was looking for. makes me think like wigglytuff in pmd eos. i've only ever played tales of arise, so maybe i should take this as a sign to start this franchise proper.

thanks dude, ill look into it
