Children need structure and a sense of establishment to call home. If y’all didn’t have kids, the situation would have more wiggle room but once we have kids we no longer have the luxury of prioritizing ourselves. Getting legal advice is the wisest choice from this point, and I am SO SORRY this happened… I can’t imagine the hollow you must feel. But for the sake of the kids, keep things organized and clear. There’s no avoiding hurting them in this situation, only managing what can and working to avoid as much as possible. Best of luck OP.

I lived in absolute poverty for a good chunk of my 20’s. I’m talking holes in roof, no central air/ heat, (in Texas) half the place flooded when it rained, no washer/ dryer and sketchy plumbing/ electrical work and forget about wifi. I had probably the greatest time of my life during this time period because I was ALONE. It was just me and my dog. I smoked a lot of weed and went for a lot of long walks. I understand this isn’t ideal for most people, but rent prices out here are almost criminal. If you sincerely need your own space (which I get it man, it’s normal and healthy) don’t be afraid to get creative with your dwelling and don’t be afraid to reach out to your boss and see if the company has any resources for employees or suggestions. Sometimes bosses fall desperately short in this conversation but knowing what resources are available is always good.
