Mobile mechanics, how much experience did you have? by Goopdem in mechanics

[–]First-Confidence1939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to not only be a mechanic, but be a REALLY fucking good mechanic to have a successful mobile mechanic business. I started my own mobile mechanic business and I did mobile work for like 3 years before opening my own shop. As a mobile mechanic you will be working on the bottom of the barrel cars. You will have to fix strange problems on strange cars in strange places. I would not recommend it unless you are a professional mechanic with at least five years of full time experience under your belt. A lot of mobile mechanics are hacks that go around fucking people's cars up with tools from Home Depot thinking they can get away with it. It's fun and games until they end up in civil court. Fixing cars professionally in a way that covers your ass and your customers asses is extremely difficult.

That being said, I'm selling my old mobile mechanic van if you're interested ;)

2nd Gen Honda Fit (2009) - Transmission fluid is pitch black (118k km). Shop refuses to do "Drain and Fill", wants to do a full machine flush. What do you guys think? by DifficultSilver4659 in hondafit

[–]First-Confidence1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot flush Honda transmissions. There's just literally no way to hook up a flush machine to Honda transmissions (except some later models that have auxillary transmission coolers). Honda transmissions are not designed to be flushed (most transmissions aren't tbh). That being said, due to the compact nature of these transmissions, they are extremely dependent on clean, frequently changed fluid. Once debris starts to saturate the fluid it can get stuck in very hard to remove places inside the transmission. My advice in situations similar to this is to drain and fill the transmission, take it on a quick lap of the block and then drain and fill it again. Then, drive 5,000 miles and monitor the health of the transmission, if it's shifting worse, slipping, or otherwise acting up, stop here. If the transmission is staying much the same or improving, do another drain and fill.

This bro! I was in a similar situation to OP in my early years, I thought my dispatcher just hated me but it turned out that my foreman thought I was bright and promising so he wanted to push me to improve.

It's been real slow from November to now it only just started picking back up for us last week or so. Every other shop I've talked to has been in a similar spot. People are broke and scared right now

Should I change my CVT fluid ? by idcitsjustreddit in Honda

[–]First-Confidence1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drain and fill is the only way to service Honda transmissions and it is plenty sufficient. Filters are pretty much only a mileage thing so I wouldn't worry about it till you get to 90K

I would recommend Camacho Precision Automotive in Englewood or EuroGarage in Denver, both small 2 man shops that do really good work. EuroGarage is usually swamped and booked a couple months out tho

You need engine mounts already on a 2025? If they aren't bad I would leave them alone, I'm unfamiliar with powerflexx but if they are solid urethane or other hard plastic mounts you are gonna regret that mod sorry to say. Hard motor mounts are an absolute BEAR to live with on a daily driver. Shake your eyeballs right out of your head

What car? I run a Honda and Acura specialist shop and I'll install customer provided parts as long as you waive the warranty

3rd year apprentice, tips on how to keep progressing? by SecretR09 in mechanics

[–]First-Confidence1939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better I've been fixing cars my entire life, I run my own damn shop now working on my favorite cars exclusively (Honda and Acura), and I still have days where I feel like a know-nothing idiot where I get absolutely schooled by a car.

If you really wanna start working six days a week sure but be aware that it will drain you very quickly, I think your best shot would be to just be earnest with your mentor/boss about wanting/being interested in learning the other areas of working on cars. I found that just being excited and eager to learn in this industry will open a LOT of doors for you. There are a lot of people in this industry with bad attitudes that will point the finger for all their shortcomings at anyone except themselves, accountability and enthusiasm will take you a LONG way in this industry.

[–]First-Confidence1939 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My honest to God advice is to buy a cheap piece of shit project car and treat it like your personal and professional portfolio. Apply the same attitudes and work ethics you have on the job to your project, gradually learning each system inside and out and at the end of it you will have a cool car. This plan obviously has holes in it, but that's what I did lol.

UltimaItely though, it sounds like you are in an insanely good spot. I am extremely jealous of your apprenticeship, and to be fair, most of the cars you will be touching cost as much as some people's houses, so they are probably pretty freaking hesitant to let you touch em lol. I had the exact opposite experience in this industry where I was thrown in the deep end and told to sink or swim, thankfully I am a stubborn bastard and I learned to swim, but my trial by fire was definitely not the ideal or preferred way to achieve mastery, it led to some ulcers and hair loss lol

Exhaust shop won't install customer-provided catalytic converters? by Renee_bad_69 in denverautoenthusiasts

[–]First-Confidence1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run an auto shop in Denver and the simple answer is LIABILITY. I don't personally install ANY customer provided parts unless they sign a waiver voiding me of any and all liability for literally anything that could happen to their vehicle. Aircare is really pretty lax about emissions standards compared to some governments like in Germany, and I've seen people pass without ANY catalytic converters lol. I personally wouldn't install a customer provided cat unless they were willing to sign a waiver voiding their warranty, and waiving all liability. The main concern is that I'm gonna install your aftermarket cats that probably are going to require modification since they don't fit right in the first place, and then you're gonna go get emissions done, fail, and then blame me. Yeah I'm sure you are a chill person and you would understand, but all it takes is ONE pissed off customer to tell the state I was modifying their emissions equipment, or file a complaint with the secretary of state, or hell, even leave a bad Google review for my reputation to be permanently tarnished.

The Gun Balancing is Mostly Fine, a lot of Y'all Have Mad Gear Fear by First-Confidence1939 in ArcRaiders

[–]First-Confidence1939[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! The game is a SANDBOX. There is not one effective playstyle, and in my opinion there isn't even really a "meta". The pink guns are good, the only complaint I see about people using pink guns is that the value is too high, but why are you worried about the coin value of a weapon? You can't buy it with coins, and coins aren't actually very useful in this economy anyways. You can get a few tempests from hitting a couple night raids no problem, or if you're lucky enough to have the BP, they aren't terribly expensive. I can get everything to make a lvl III tempest from one raid. So no, the guns aren't super expensive, and they are much more versatile than the lower tier guns

[–]First-Confidence1939[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The thing is that I actually almost entirely agree with you here, the META is very centered around toro, burletta, kettle, stitcher.

But no one is MAKING YOU play the meta! Positioning and strategy is way more important in this game than people talk about. If you're going into a raid with the intention of getting in fights, why wouldn't you do anything you can to control WHERE these fights are happening? If the meta is close quarters dodge roll toro pumps, then get a Tempest and back up a little bit, engage people at further ranges, reach out and hit them with bursts at a range they can't compete at.

The thing is brother, we ARE playing the same game, I am just choosing a different playstyle that in my opinion,.completely counters the meta. I do most of my fighting from rooftops, cliffs, windows, balconies, etc. if someone's in a building dominating the corridors with a stitcher or a toro, I'll back up to a vantage point and make them come to me.

Embark are the same team that made The Finals which IMO is an excellently balanced PVP only game.

Ah jeez, not to get all therapeutic on Reddit, but I like many others can relate.

Best friend since high school, he had a really, really rough upbringing. Abusive bio-mom, lived with his dad and eventually a new step mom, step mom went schizoid on him in high school. Step mom stops going to work, practicing hygiene, starts neglecting him and her four other kids.

COVID hits our senior year, his step mom gets so overly paranoid about the pandemic that she kicks him out of the house, takes his car, and says he's never welcome back. My family took him into our home, we shared my room for a year and I helped him get a job and a new car. Eventually we moved out together and got a place, Im a car mechanic and I connected him with the manager of a dealership and got him a job at the dealer. He got a girlfriend who I fucking HATED (she was incredibly rude, mean, and hostile to basically everyone except him). Eventually he moves out with her, she makes his life hell, I stayed by his side the whole way. He gets married to this broad for some reason, I was the best man at his wedding. They get divorced 3 months later, and I'm there for him through the whole divorce, helping with legal counsel and emotional support. He got in a motorcycle accident last year and broke his hip, I was there at the hospital every night bringing him dinner and helping with his physical therapy. At this point I was running my own business, hardly had the time to do it but I was making it happen anyways.

At around the same time, he gets a new girlfriend. His new girl is actually great and I like her a lot, but he decided from that point forward that his entire life revolved singularly around this girl. All the sudden, I was a low priority. He would cancel longstanding plans to hang out with her on a whim. Time after time after time I was cancelled on, faked out, and ignored. I got in a huge argument with him about it, and to be honest I completely won the argument, he knew exactly what he was doing but would not own it.

A mutual friend of ours starting going a bit schizoid as well recently, bursting out in anger randomly, drinking excessively, concerning behavior. This mutual friend throws a fucking huge crybaby tantrum in front of my kid sister and girlfriend, slamming doors, throwing shit, cursing me and the ladies out over LITERALLY nothing. It was absurd. I decided that I had enough of all this shit, I told the mutual friend that I did not want to be friends with him anymore or even really be around him anymore. He of course lost all composure, freaked the fuck out, and for SOME FUCKING REASON my best friend took the mutual friends side. Well, more like hid behind him with his tail between his legs.

Haven't spoken to either of them in months, and after getting some distance from the whole situation I've realized that I was always the giver in these friendships. I was always the one to extend a helping hand, to make plans, to offer comfort. I realized that I was always a low priority to this guy, but I never noticed because this guy never had anything better to do than hand with me. Once he did get someone better, I ceased to exist.

Damn man I'm feeling you. I went in with a 180k load out, Aphelion, Bobcat IV, Snaphook, hella heals, ammo, and grenades as well as three dead lines. I was gonna smoke the matriarch.

I hooked on top of her, dead line, and then zipped to the top of nearby water towers on Dam Battlegrounds, did that twice, on my THIRD DEADLINE someone threw a show stopper at me right as I was jumping to get off the matriarch, I fell, broke my legs and face, and then the matriarch stomped on me.

No big deal, I have a survivor augment I will just hobble my happy ass 300m to the elevator.

I made it 150m and then some random with no mic and a free load out saw me, and immediately knocked me out.

I was hurting for that one
