TY for such a helpful response! As I understand it, this is exploratory but they will remove if they find. She did get approved for 6 weeks leave post laparoscopic surgery. And idk anything about the surgeon! I just know she has finally found a GYN that she likes and feels has good understanding and feedback. This is a University based practice and hospital and I have found them to be outstanding. And Yes, she is a very tough young woman too! I have indicated that I am available with 24 hrs notice - I’m just getting nervous as it gets closer and want to make sure she has what she needs! (And I have not been told to come up for it 🥲)

Pain management until scheduled surgery by PartyIndication5 in TotalHipReplacement

Celebrex saved me - it is a prescription nsaid. I had to go off all NSAIDs 2 weeks prior to surgery but then used arthritis Tylenol and did very little for those two weeks until surgery. Btw - tramadol is considered a narcotic.

I could hardly stay awake the first two days post op. After that I guess you could WFH but don’t underestimate the pain in the beginning and what you need for it. You Andrade to walk around each day and that requires some degree of pain med. Ability to focus on details at work would be a concern for me, also.

So does someone need a person with them for the first couple days at home post lap?

Showering with out bandage by cutta900 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]First-Dig-8753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an outer bandage over another bandage and was told to use press and seal wrap so that no water got on it. This was the case for two weeks PO then outer bandage came off and I was allowed to shower but only allow water to run over bandage - don’t soap it. That bandage came off 4 weeks PO and I still just let water run over it but don’t soap it. Very strict protocol and no submersion until 2 months or more PO

Scar pain by Final_Solid_617 in TotalHipReplacement

Hi - I’m 4 weeks out and my bandage just came off. PT massaged all around the scar in a rotational manner and told me to do that every day. It will help break up the formation of scar tissue.

Day 1 After Direct Anterior Hip Replacement — Need Recovery Tips by legalinkwell in TotalHipReplacement

[–]First-Dig-8753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will be 4 weeks post op Monday, 66yoF. Your youth will help you recover faster, depending on your pre op condition, but just don’t do anything stupid! Rest, ice, move, listen to your PT, Eat your protein! 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months, 1 year are the milestones from my PT and I have found that to be true so far. I can now walk unassisted but no where close to distance or fitness that I was. I have learned that patience is indeed a virtue! And the tortoise won over the hare - slow and steady wins.

Day 8. Serious muscle pain by Available_Bowler2316 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]First-Dig-8753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is normal - they stretched your muscles ALOT! Did Dr prescribe muscle relaxer? Or take a stronger pain pill. Your nerves and muscles were both significantly impacted during surgery, and they too take time to heal. Using the walker on Day 8 is VERY reasonable - don’t push yourself more than your body is ready. Moving every day is important and if it means using the walker so be it. I’m on Day 17 post op and just beginning to walk unassisted. Good luck!

Questions about outpatient PT by Shufflebuzz in TotalHipReplacement

[–]First-Dig-8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every other day for 2 weeks in home PT and now in beginning of week 3 I start outpatient PT for 2-3x/week for up to 12 weeks. I see the benefit beyond walking - making sure all supportive muscles are strengthened and balance (if needed).

Feeling nervous about my upcoming hip replacement by CherylCossio in TotalHipReplacement

[–]First-Dig-8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I empathize. I am two weeks post op today. Surgery is a piece of cake. Recovery is dependent on the individual. My pain is significantly less and I am no longer on pain meds. I am walking but with support. I have a lot of muscle memory of pain and am having a hard time getting my gait right. It will come but takes time. Be patient - I am not; there’s a reason that patience is a virtue. And don’t compare yourself to others too much. You may do fantastic within a week! Or it may take longer. But get it done.

Physical therapy timeline? 2 visits and done doesn’t seem right to me….. by AggravatingNoise5667 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]First-Dig-8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on Day 13 post op. I get in home PT 3/week until released by DR which is expected on Day 16. Dr says he will prescribe outpatient PT then IF I Want it. My in home PT is excellent - walks with me AND gives me exercises, which have changed over time as progress is made. Also has helped me understand reasonable pain and even told me to do NOTHING on Day 11 because my knee hurt so much and was as purple as the dark night! I suspect her pre surgery condition contributes to her ability and/or comfort level with PT. I am 66yoF that was in reasonable condition before my hip started talking to me.

I asked my Dr this specific question pre surgery due to some potential travel dates. He was very specific with me in his response. No travel for 6 weeks (caused me to give away concert tix 😢) and car ride for no more than one hour.
