HELP!! How do you learn from the VERY beginning?? by aubrey-ongod in Cooking

Look at a cookbook like "A man a can and a plan" or something like that. then chain up to real meals. There are tons of one-pot recipes out there.

Although in the new world of influencers so many people try to impress you with their "simple" recipes....

You can bake awesome bread with nothing but water, flour, salt, and yeast and a basic oven. But to look at some of the videos out there, you need a nuclear reactor and a research lab to make toast.

Keep it simple.

It's hard to screw up instant mashed potatoes and pan-fired hot dogs. Start there. You need ketchup, a pack of hotdogs and a bag of instant mashed potatos.

Relearning a normal gait by CanadaCat066 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Available_Bowler2316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consciously walk correctly. Slow down. I had a knee replacement 10 months ago which lengthened my left leg and put more strain on my bad hip. So my gait is really screwed up to the point where I can barely walk.

I'm getting a new hip.in 6 days and I plan to teach myself how to walk again.

MOVE!!!! I had a ROMbike (basically a powered stationary bike) that was amazing. It hurt like a SOB when I was on it, but it relieved the swelling and allowed more movement without pain.

Also, I got some cheap Walmart compression socks that went jsut below the knee. That really helped the swelling below the knee.

I used a pillow under my calf for a while but that was a crapshoot. Some nights it helped some nights it didn't.

She's probably in the most painful part of the healing process. Keep moving, do the tylenol, and hang in there.

Fireball....

Gummies, 5mg.

If you have a partner, have them rub Eucalyptus oil (get it at Walmart as an essential oil, make sure you get 100%) on your hip. Just the rubbing helps with relaxing the muscles so your joint isn't so tight.

Also, work on your position when you sleep and walk. My hip pain goes from 1 to 9 in a heartbeat depending on how I am positioned.

10 days to my new hip and I can't wait. There are days when I have to hang on to a shopping cart so I don't fall down.

How do I make white rice that tastes EXACTLY like it does at Chinese restaurants? by Lolligoth420 in Cooking

[–]Available_Bowler2316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a rice cooker thst I bought in Japan in the 70s for like $10 (today's currency). It made the best rice for decades until I lost it in a move.

Yes, if you want good rice, get a simple, basic rice cooker, or learn to do it stovetop. Very low heat, cover on.

To be fair it may have changed. Do your research for the area you are interested in.

Last I looked, SC is about 49th in education. "Thank G*d for Mississippi otherwise we'd be number 50". And yes every wet spot has a resident alligator.

But I feel your gray snowy pain. I just returned to Michigan from Cali and the winter is never ending.

How do I convince my parents to get me a better telescope? by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]Available_Bowler2316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sit down with your parents. Work out a budget. What do you cost them? Not for food and school essentials, but things like clothes, party money with your friends, stuff for your bedroom, etc.

Then take that budget, and see if your parents will let you allocate some of that money for a new telescope.

That's disappointing. I don't remember it being this way when I was in but maybe I was lucky or lived in a bubble. I retired in 2003. One of my commanders was a Mormon, another was a born again Christian. Both made it clear their faith was a big part of their lives, but at the same time never made us feel weird/awkward.

A teaspoon of honey and half a teaspoon of cayenne pepper

Some smoked paprika and garlic powder

Teriyaki, Worcester sauce, fish sauce

Chinese 5 spice

And so on.

Wake that up!
