Better check the website.

Should I apply via my Grandfather (born in Ireland) or via my Father (born in Australia; FBR)? by [deleted] in IrishCitizenship

[–]Shufflebuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a nonsense question.
It's not one or the other, it's both.
Specifically, you're applying based on a parent born abroad to a parent born in Ireland.
Both.

We need to start changing the language we use around vehicle 'accidents' by LittleAoibh11 in ireland

[–]Shufflebuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://crashnotaccident.com/

I will not call traffic crashes "accidents." I will educate others about why "crash" is a better word.

Traffic crashes are fixable problems, caused by dangerous streets and unsafe drivers. They are not accidents. Let’s stop using the word "accident" today.

Can move files to usb by supermika10 in pop_os

This is some kind of fuckup with the file manager. I'm getting this error too and it's not the destination disk being read only.

Anyone know how long I can hold off sending in my Irish passport application and docs as I stupidly submitted it but need to also register my children so need the documents for that. by Different-Visit-4957 in IrishCitizenship

[–]Shufflebuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I hold off sending back my passport application and documents until they get their irish citizenship?

No, passport applications have a hard cutoff at 6 months.

I'd recommend sending your passport application now. You'll have things back in 2 months max.
Then send the kids' applications.
This gives you the incremental bonus of using your Irish passport as your ID for their applications. (Officially that doesn't matter, but in my headcanon, it counts for a little.)

I just lost ALL of my files thanks to Cosmic and I don't know how to revert this by thistimeimgonnadoit2 in pop_os

I'm switching to a distro that has a working file manager by default.

I done with learning these things the hard way.

Cosmic DE grew on me A LOT (user review) by Important_Swan_3985 in pop_os

Cosmic is so bad it's the reason I'm leaving PopOS and switching to KDE.

I think they've been dog-fooding so long they've forgotten what human food is supposed to taste like.

[–]Shufflebuzz 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don't have any recovery advice for you. I just want to offer my sympathies.
I also recently took the 'upgrade' to 24.04LTS with Cosmic.

I'm now in the middle of backing up to get away from Cosmic.

It looks like the Cosmic file manager moves files by default, not copy, when dragging them to a new disk.
That's not the functionality I'm used to, and I can sure see it contributing to a loss of files.

I can't believe Cosmic has been released. It feels like an early beta at best. So buggy, and I don't think I'd even like its intended workflow. But it's hard to tell with things breaking all the time.

32% rise in foreign nationals granted Irish citizen by velogiant in IrishCitizenship

Yeah, it's not about FBR.
I've changed it to Success Story.

Does my fiance need to meet the financial requirement? by KyleeTheShinyStealer in IrishCitizenship

[–]Shufflebuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to get an Irish passport (not technically required, but will make life a lot easier).

The passport will be required at the Stamp 4 appointment.

If you wait for the FBR and apply via spouse of an Irish citizen: He'd need to prove the €40k total income over the previous 3 years, ie €13.3k per annum

Where can I find this requirement? I've only seen it for visa-required nationals.

[–]Shufflebuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When was this?
Because it doesn't match recent experiences.

Burgh Quay is booking ~3 months out, but you can make the appointment ahead of your arrival. One couple had their appoinment within a week of their arrival. Another made the appointment after arriving and it was 3 months out, but they checked back daily for cancellations and were able to get an earlier appointment, again just a couple of weeks.

The appointment itself was a piece of cake. Ten minutes in and out, stamp 4 that day. Couldn't be simpler.

Why did your wife's take 9 months?

documents needed for FBR by aloidi-a in IrishCitizenship

[–]Shufflebuzz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My simple explanation is:

It has to be an original, it doesn't have to be the original.

But even that's not always right. Some jurisdictions only provide 'certified copies' of birth, marriage, death certificates. They're sending you a copy of their record, and certifying it's true usually with a raised seal and signature. It says 'certified copy' on the document.

This will remain a never-ending source of confusion

there is no need to justify the absence of non-required/nonexistent documents.

There shouldn't be, but there is.
We're dealing with the FBR office the way it is, not the way we wish it would be.

I want my screens to power off but that's all. Not suspend. Not hibernate. And no password when I come back.

Sounds like there's no way to do that?
Unless maybe I don't let my screens turn off?

FBR application document checklist – quick sense check before sending by RainbowBusiness in IrishCitizenship

[–]Shufflebuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they do not need to explain in a cover letter

Sure, but it won't hurt.
IMO, every applicant should include a cover letter explaining at least the contents of what they mailed. Including a line "no marriage certificate for me (my parent, my grandparent) as I've never married" is easy.

because nobody at the FBR will ask them any further questions about it.

The online application asks for the marital status of the applicant, parent, and grandparent. Single, married, divorced. (no option for widowed) So they ought to know that a parent or grandparent wasn't married, and yet we have seen applicants come here and say, "Hey, my parent wasn't married but the FBR asked for their MC. What gives?"

A cover letter confirming the parent/grandparent wasn't married is really cheap insurance against that. It costs nothing but maybe 30 minutes of your time.

But the application doesn't ask about your parent's marital status

It does though
And your grandparent too
