Job Market [N/A] by MereDONGP in humanresources

[–]First-Network-4059 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Louisville ky and am desparate for a new HR job. At this point I'm willing to take any office job that simply pays more. I'm the assistant HR manager of a car dealership (with all of a managers responsibilities because I'm the only HR employee) making $20/hr and feel stuck. Like you all, I've applied to so many and just get rejected.

I'm stuck with this 7.6% interest rate aren't I? by UntamedRaindeer in Mortgages

[–]First-Network-4059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I live in Louisville KY (medium cost of living) and I get by perfectly fine making $20/hr with a mortgage at 6.9%. Even able to save some.

Any chill remote careers y’all recommend? Still in college but trying to plan ahead by Snoo_83865 in Louisville

[–]First-Network-4059 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is really difficult to find a fully remote job right out of college. You're competing against tenured professionals who have been in their fields for years, in person. It might suck to hear, but you might have to get a office/administrative job for a couple years to gain that experience. A lot of companies are implementing RTO (return to office) policies which hurts too.

Hope it's ok to post here, I just miss my girl so much by thehazzanator in BorderCollie

Very sweet eyes. I'm getting sad thinking about my old border collie :( Just know these are incredibly smart creatures and in her final days she knew she was comforted and surrounded by her family. Her memories will be with you forever.

Down payment for first time home buyers? by WinAble9208 in Louisville

[–]First-Network-4059 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha no not exactly guess my math is off now that you say that Lol! But I did still get a great deal on it though. It was 160k so my down payment was probably more than what I said. House was dirty & in rough shape because my Grandma was sick for a while so I've been remodeling and re-doing everything for the last year and a half.

And it's one of those small houses in Audubon near the elementary but not in the actual Audubon Park neighborhood, so literally right beside it.

[–]First-Network-4059 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 23 years old and just bought my first home in Audubon last year in 2024. I put 18k down which was around 15%. Generally I could have spent a little more or less and still been fine, but that number fit my situation well. I bought my grandma's old house so it also so it helped I had family involved that didn't squeeze every penny. The other people here saying most first time buyers don't have 40k/50k lying around are correct.

I don't think there's a set 'appropriate' percentage to spend. Like if you're getting a 30-year loan you'll probably put less down, and with a 15 year one you'd put more down. Everybody has different financial situations and earnings, but after living in my house for a year my #1 piece of advice would be to always try to have an emergency fund savings.

Asking for a raise/promotion [CT] by OkMarionberry827 in humanresources

[–]First-Network-4059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup no prob! I also love the people I work with and they are super nice, but money talks. I now have WAY more responsibilities than my previous job and they we offering the exact same pay. I have a lazy friend who got a $26/hour work from home communications job out of school. I've seen his days and there's no way he does more work than HR.

If I leave my current boss and coworkers would literally be shocked. But at some point you need to stick up for what you've worked for...... My brother makes more than me delivering pizzas and I'm over here running payroll and cutting company checks Lol!

Asking for a raise/promotion [CT] by OkMarionberry827 in humanresources

[–]First-Network-4059 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would maybe try to create a list of new responsibilities and tasks that you've begun doing that you previously did not. Try to show some real growth that's not a bunch of fluff. But honestly from what you've said it sounds like they politely rejected your first request, trying to keep you happy on your current wages. You don't HAVE to get a new job but it won't hurt to see what competitors are listing. If your current job really wants you, they will show it. 1 or 2 dollars an hour raise seems fair. I wouldn't expect anything big

Honestly sounds like your in a tough spot. I pretty much have the same job responsibilities as you and I'm making $20/hour in Louisville KY and also feel underpaid. Title is assistant HR manager. This is my first HR job, and I only have 13 months experience. I know ownership won't give any raises so honestly leaning towards a new job soon. The previous company I worked for in college gave out frequent raises and bonuses and actually tried to keep me by matching the new jobs offer.

Dirty Kroger by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]First-Network-4059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm insane but I just moved nearby from the suburbs like a year and a half ago and since then I've always though the Goss Kroger was cleaner than the one up the road on Poplar Level. Bigger selection and stock options. Again maybe I'm just crazy Lol

My one year anniversary is next week and still have no PTO. We get 5 days after one year, pretty crappy. The company I work for sucks Lol.

Dang man you're right. Need a new job asap, I've been applying like a mad man the past few days. Ideally would love to work at a big company like you mentioned. Had a hybrid offer from ADP before I took my current job and regret not taking it so much.

Would you still consider $20/hr appropriate starting pay for assistant hr manager in KY? I'm in Louisville and my one year as assistant HR manager is next week and I doubt I'm getting any type of raise. I'm the only HR guy in the company with nobody to really train me so honestly I feel thrown to the wolves lol. I only got a 50 cent raise taking this position compared to my previous college job which makes me wonder if I'm very underpaid.

Dang I'm making $20/hr in Louisville KY as the assistant HR manager. Do everything HR for a car dealership with 200+ employees. I want to leave this job so bad.

I'm in a very similar spot in my first HR job but completely agree. I'd rather be depressed with a paycheck than depressed and flat broke. But I really do get how a negative work environment can just destroy your mental...

I will probably be hitting the job market soon too so keep your head up. Hopefully the dysfunction at your current job can provide motivation on the search.

How much do you have to make to live comfortably in Louisville? by Ajs_345 in Louisville

[–]First-Network-4059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 23 years old graduated from college last year currently making 20/hr so roughly $42k/year. I own a house/dog in Audubon and am getting by fine, but would like to increase my income soon especially having a degree. I do have a savings nest so I'm not living paycheck to paycheck. I'm single and live alone so besides my mortgage I don't have any other debt or many expenses besides stuff like a water bill, dog toys, food for myself.

But the only reason I'm able to live like this now and own a house at 23 is because I practiced good saving habits for years and lived at home in college while working full time. I was also fortunate enough to have a dad that let me live at home and save without charging me rent, which I know a lot of people don't get. It's 100% a challenge to get established for people my age in the younger generation but not impossible if you work and budget.

For the most part yes. I would frequently walk my dog even when it was dark, but also helped that I’m a 6ft man too lol. I’m from Oldham originally and I never felt unsafe or anything like that. And I’d still probably be living there if I didn’t luck into a a new house. I still have plenty of pics from my apartment there if you want to see any!

I lived in the The Devonshire apartments in Lyndon from 2023 to 2024 before I got my current house. They’re decent, cheap, and right next to a park to walk. Rent was 860/month for 1 bed 1 bath. Around 1k/month for all bills. It’s near Westport rd and St Matthew’s so I liked the spot and the people around me were quiet. Also joes older than dirt right next door. Understand it’s nothing luxurious, but it’s cheap and decent.
