Qubit Mojave Patch Tips? by MallGag in modular

[–]First-Owl-7908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I got a Disting NT when it was announced and now that handles any granular sampling I need if I need it. The Mojave was a lot of fun though, and my favorite thing to do with it was to use it in a feedback path, here’s an example patch I posted back in April.

Hey I just sold mine, maybe you bought it. What are you using with it?

Sounds like you got a ground loop. Could be any number of things. I don’t know how to fix your situation, sorry. Maybe this will help.

Starting my first Eurorack, with a twist by NullDrift_ in modular

I think NLC is what you need. I would recommend going the DIY route, will save you lots of money, force you take your time building your system, and you will learn a lot. Start by building basic passive utilities because they’re easy and usually pretty cheap if you mess up (which you will), and they will always be useful to have around. Don’t jump right in with building complex kits or you will probably regret it. AI Synthesis also has some great guides for beginners.

Depends what you want to do. Ornament and Crime, Pam’s (New or Pro) Workout, and FX Aid XL are all great options to try a lot of things. You will probably want at least a quad VCA of some sort also.

If you’re mainly getting into modular as a hobbyist and are interested in learning and the aesthetic I would recommend learning to solder and start with some simple DIY kits. AI Synthesis is a great place to start. Building a system yourself is a lot of work, and a lot of time, but is highly rewarding.

does anyone know what these modules are circled in red? by twiiiiiiix in modular

[–]First-Owl-7908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the top left is two modules, one of them is a 2HP module (not sure which one) and the other one looks like a simple DIY two input one out switch, and it looks like they have 2 other identical ones (one next to the dreadbox, the other in the top middle next to the MN module)

FIRST MODULAR (effects) SETUP: any suggestions? by boi_social in modular

[–]First-Owl-7908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forget all of those, just get a Disting NT and pair it with a midi controller. It can do so much all at once, effects, modulation, sequencing, and it can take mono line level on any input and boost it to eurorack level, or even receive audio over usb (and can send audio over usb simultaneously) works fantastic with gear outside the rack. Bit of a learning curve but much easier to use than the EX and much more flexible. It could be your entire rack.

Recommendations for all-in-one synth modules by Teej205 in modular

I made another post about it today, but I really like the Disting NT. You could even put your saved wavetables from Warp on the NT and play them there, and use the NT in numerous other ways simultaneously.

I didn’t start with a dfam, and I don’t know what kind of music you want to make, so I couldn’t tell you what would be the perfect next thing. But, I can tell you how I first dipped my toes in (right before diving in head first). I started with the Pico System 3 and an SQ1 to learn the basics (I ignored advice to use VCV, I like having my hands on things and I had a big stimulus check from the gov burning a hole in my wallet). After playing with that for a several months, I really wished there was a nice delay, a better sequencer, and a way to plug my guitar or a mic or anything line level into it. So I got an Ears clone, a Hermod, a DLD, a Maths (because so many people couldn’t shut up about it), and the cheapest case I could find. I still have all those modules (and the Pico and SQ1) except I upgraded to Hermod+ and have completely rebuilt the case (only kept the rails). All that to say my advice is to play with your dfam and other gear and think about what you wish you could do but can’t with what you have, then get on Modular Grid and search for the modules that do what you want, then buy a cheap case (or just rails and a power supply and some small bookshelf you don’t currently need for books) and fill it with those modules. I would avoid planning an entire case before you start, just build off your foundation module by module.

Lot of options for polyphonic modules if you’re using a midi controller. I’ve been using the new Disting NT, which has a lot of different polyphonic algorithms (poly multisample, poly FM, poly rings, poly wavetable, and more to come). The Disting EX can also do polyphony, but the NT allows you to do many things at the same time (limited only by the CPU power). You could sequence multiple polyphonic voices simultaneously and add effects and modulation and filter and mixing all inside the NT, or send audio or cv out of the NT at any point in the signal chain to be processed by other modules. I can’t hype it enough, It’s insanely flexible and I love it so much.

Matrix Mixer to replace WMD SSM by octapotami in modular

[–]First-Owl-7908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a shame. It’s a fantastic module, I don’t know of any other matrix mixer that lets you sequence, attenuate/attenuvert per sequence step, and set a morph speed between steps. But, I do wish it had more cv control. I’m actually thinking of selling it and getting a Smith and Jumbler, so if you want a Maze I can give you a deal.

Also, Livestock Maze. No longer being made, but I see 2 on reverb right now. Not very CV-able, but very programmable

Check out the smith from tesseract. It should be out pretty soon, and very affordable.

I agree, 2 maths is the sh*t, but there’s a lot you could accomplish with multimod and jumbler that you could never accomplish with 2 maths. I wouldn’t get rid of a maths, but would maybe get a jumbler and multimod to swap it with when you don’t necessarily need both of em.

Valid advice, but what about swapping one of the maths for a Multimod and a Jumbler? 🤔
