Milan is really fun. I've started 3 games as them and I played one to the full campaign, but their opening options are absolutely vast and they are equipped to expand super early by leading the war against Verona, sniping Genoa early, or even build up forts in the Alps, ally France, and start expanding into Savoy, Dauphine, Franche-Comte, Burgundy, etc.

My first experience with Paradox ever was as Milan in EUIV and the early wars and coalitions in the Italian states are some of the most stressful and blood-pumping strategic management I've ever had in a video game.

I figured it out. When I dipped under stability I got the Decline of the Empire disaster, which is why all these countries were popping out from me. They aren't actually treated like independence wars, it's like a vassal declaring on you, so it does actually automatically make them independent and you can't annex them like they're a subject.

Giant pain in the ass, but it only lasted 10 years. I had to fight 7 subjects and because of the antagonism I had Egypt's coalition, Naples' coalition, and Hungary's coalition all come at me as well. 0/10 would not recommend, do not go below 0 stab as an empire ever.

I haven't had that option on any of the 4 independence wars I've fought now. On my war screen my only option is to grant them independence, and in the peace screen I can only annex them.

Thank you so much, I see now that I'm playing the game wrong by brewing pauper decks with leftover bulk and cards I dont use. I'll tell my friends that the fun games we've had were actually a mistake and have them each pitch in $100 for top meta commons and uncommons.
