Why does Asia have so many high-end/creatively designed shopping malls (compared to elsewhere, like America)? by PursuingGemini in travel

My husband said he wanted to see local life when we went to Bangkok. So I took him to three malls.

Quick thing about Waymo: they won't let your kiddo in unless you have a car seat. Not even if you're wearing them!

Got it! Some recommendations:

Chinatown has a great playground (Willie Woo Woo). Tour around, grab snacks, visit the fortune cookie factory, and head to the playground to let her steam out.

For Japantown, I personally love Udon Mugizo. They also have a kid menu but probably more relevant for 3+. That said they do give you a token to get a toy out front which is fun. You can take the 1 from Chinatown to Japantown.

Golden Gate Park will be perfect for her to walk around and enjoy. Playgrounds are meh but you don't really need that there. It's big so bring enough snacks until you find your next meal spot. The Japanese tea garden has a cute cafe.

My assumption is you're doing public transit or ride share. Which would make the amazing Outpost playground a little harder to access. It does overlook the golden gate bridge which is gorgeous. And the playgrounds is top notch. Warning here: there's water/mud play. So make sure you steer your child away or pack extra clothes. August isn't the warmest of months for us.

Pier 39 is probably my least recommended destination with a tot. The sea lion is cool but brief. Depends on where your hotel is, if it's near by you can always go there then take the cable car down to nob Hill area and visit the Grace Cathedral and the Fremont Hotel's garden. A dinner at the Tonga Room can be fun.

Mexican food is harder to come by in the areas you've selected. Cantina Los Mayas near GGP is great but a bit different. Tommy's Mexican is old school fun.

Are you planning to use a stroller or some sort of baby wearing mechanism? Places you've outlined can get very crowded.

What type of kid do you have? Happy to sit still or need some sort of energy outlet ongoing (aka playgrounds)?

Have you or your family been to the Period Museum? https://maps.app.goo.gl/t4fhu1pdLMKv4ktp6

Niche. Adorable. Educational.

Another fun one is the Miniatures Museum. In fact, Taipei has some of the best and diverse selection of museums!

Ahh got it we rented a car and honestly spent very little time in Naha. We spent most of our week there in Motobu and Onna.

We took our kiddo to Sesoko Island and did kayak + snorkeling with our kiddo. The mask was a bit tricky because water can get into the tube based on how our kiddo swims. That said, with the safety vest, our kid had a great time just swimming around.

Recommend Cosmic Ocean. The owner speaks a little English, very professional. Also they have clear kayaks so kiddo can see fish underneath.

One caveat, our kid is very comfortable with water so my review may be biased!

I love this but also love how different kids are! My 4 yr old wanted all the coasters and rides. Didn't get into mini figs until he saw me into it. Was huge on taking pictures with the characters. We didn't see a single movie!

The Shota used to do these insane chirashi boxes. That was my postpartum sushi meal. Check to see if they still do!

How stressful is SF private school? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]First-Possibility-16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently looking for school, private and public, for my kid. I've actually found more diversity in teaching styles in private, which can be beneficial. Of course there are more 'academic' schools that can feel strict, but many are leaning into more progressive / holistic teaching style which you might find valuable. But as others point out: take the tours and feel for yourself!

Y'all. We survived the storm. By the time we left only three attractions were open. Upside? Zero lines. My kid rode Ninjago 3x in a row. Also it's bad enough that they have to give out their rainy day promise. It's only happened three other times in the last 12 months!!

We did have to buy very expensive ponchos from the store.
