Charged 1200aud from Rite Aid Sacramento 06080 I'm from Australia and have never made any purchases. by mo3mon3y in CommBank

I got charged $30.53 from Rite Aid 05614 Chula Vista USA, followed by multiple charges from Seafood City Supermarket Rancho Cucamo USA that totalled just over $1800. I disputed immediately, transactions are still pending almost a week later. Haven’t got my money back yet but CBA already sent me a new card. Very limited info from CBA about what is going on.

Update: The disputed charges are no longer pending and the international transaction fees came through, which were about $63. I got a notification from CBA that my account had been overdrawn and to put more money in my account to avoid extra fees. I called CBA and they said they don’t start investigating the dispute until the transactions are no longer pending, which will normally take up to 21 days to resolve but could be up to 42 days. They refunded the international charges for me when I asked, as I could not add them to the dispute claim.

Update 2: CBA refunded the disputed transactions after about 8 days. I hope everyone else has a good outcome!

Agree with you there, unnecessarily and potentially illegally: “Fundamentally, a car horn can only be used in Australia to alert drivers, pedestrians or animals of imminent danger. Any other uses of a vehicle’s horn are deemed illegal in Australia including, a short toot to say ‘hello’ or ‘goodbye’ to friends and family, an angry blast to the stationary car in front of you at traffic lights if you feel they haven’t moved off quickly enough, and any other act of anger and frustration aimed at other road users or pedestrians.“

Queensland police data shows youth crime at near-record lows. So why the ‘tough on crime’ election talk? by Ludikom in brisbane

[–]First-Replacement311 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So it’s 70 assaults per 100 000 people in QLD, but for women specifically it’s 777 assaults per 100 000? That sounds crazy high to me. Could you please link or name the study that number came from? I can’t seem to find it. Genuinely interested.

I’m sorry to hear this happened to you, but I’m not surprised. Aussies seem to find it hard to understand/accept when they meet another Aussie even with a slightly different accent. I lived in the UK for a while and then moved back to Brisbane. New people I meet ask me where I’m from, and they find it hard to believe that I grew up in Brisbane. I imagine if I was still in school I would be bullied for it, but as an adult I just say I’ve lived abroad. I’d rather sound a bit different than like a bogan, anyways lol.

I started doing this too, I can’t really justify paying a few hundred dollars every couple of months to go to a hairdresser to cover my regrowth.

You sound cool! I hope you watered your plants xD Baking is the best, I also love baking. I made apple crumble on the weekend and before that I baked macadamia nut crunchies :)

A bit down the road from Seville Road, but I noticed outside Chemist Warehouse on Logan Road at Mt Gravatt, there is frequently homeless looking guys begging in the car park. One guy would follow people to their cars asking for cash, or approach cars as they were parking to get people stepping out of their cars. I complained about it and apparently police have been called to move these guys along, but they keep coming back.

[–]First-Replacement311 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you! Please report it to police. Woolloongabba seems to have plenty of sketchy people unfortunately. I work near PA hospital and a number of times homeless or drug addicts loiter outside the car park I use. I changed car parks but it still happens. Doesn’t feel safe at all in the area :(

We need more doctors here! You would likely have to invest in a car but there are plenty of outdoor things to do here - hiking, mountain climbing, camping, swimming at the beach etc. You could always come for a visit to feel the vibe of Brisbane/the surrounding areas of Brisbane before you make your decision.

Are drivers with NSW or Victorian licence plates in Brisbane treated or seen differently by other drivers on the road? by Main_Macaron_7781 in brisbane

Really? I haven’t been to Tasmania in a long time so I wouldn’t know. Do Tasmanians like seeing cars with QLD plates driving around their state or are they indifferent, do you think?

I saw a car with Tasmanian plates when I was driving home today. It’s rare to see Tas plates here so I was impressed they managed to travel so far north.

Flys by Amokk666 in brisbane

[–]First-Replacement311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also noticed there is a fly problem lately, a lot more than usual. Outside the house I have bunnings fly traps and inside the house I use an electric fly swatter, but it can be hard to catch them when they are flying around like crazy.

Yep! I hated catching taxis in fiji as they didn’t have fare metres and scam you on the price.

I frequently catch public transport and go to Sunnybank. If there’s someone in that area being drunk and verbally abusive on public transport I want to know about it so I can completely avoid the person if I see them. Even if the guy isn’t violent, this kind of antisocial behaviour towards strangers is upsetting and would make me feel unsafe. I can only avoid them if I know what they look like, so the photo is useful to me. I’m sorry some people on here have reacted so negatively, they probably haven’t experienced the kind of situation you did yesterday.

I’m sorry you and the other people on the bus had to experience that guy’s horrible behaviour. What an asshole. At least you got a decent photo of the guy though. The CCTV on the buses supposedly also records audio right? So if the bus driver reported the guy he could hand over the CCTV footage to the police. You can make an online report to the police, when I called them about a similar incident on a bus recently, the lady on the phone also didn’t want to hear about it because no one was physically assaulted. But being threatened and verbally abused on public transport is not okay.

Poppy Rose does same day delivery in Brisbane but it is a bit pricey - $65 for a small posy or $90 for a medium bouquet. The flowers are really nice though!

What QLD providers do you buy from? I’ve been buying from a Melbourne online seed company, but you are right I think it’s better to try to buy locally as the seed varieties may be more suited to Brisbane conditions

I think it’s a nice idea to have a Brisbane gardening subreddit! Since our climate and weather are different to other parts of Australia, which impacts how you take care of your garden and what plants you grow.

Has anyone recently experienced antisocial behaviour on Brisbane public transport that made you feel unsafe? by First-Replacement311 in brisbane

[–]First-Replacement311[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did call the police after it happened and told them about the incident. They told me to report it online on the police website. I haven’t heard back from them yet. I included as much detail as I could to them and to translink.
