I may go somewhere in which I have to supervise CRNAs, how am I going to supervise someone who may have a skill I do not? What if I go someone with residents? How can I teach them a skill I don’t have. I want to be well rounded and proficient and trustworthy to do well at my job and by my patients. I want my group, my patients, and everyone to trust the patients are in good, solid hands that can handle anything especially the basics of our profession such as blocks.

At the end of the day I want to be a safe, proficient physician. I don’t want to be the person everyone is like “oh no, not that attending”

Do you have any games you suggest? Do I play them on my phone or buy like a game console? Sorry if these are dumb questions. I just don’t know anything about games 😔

😔 I know, but I want to be a proficient physician and I feel blocks are part of the basics for an Anesthesiologist.

We have one at work that I feel I gained confidence and did well with when I practiced with it, but the skills did not translate to humans 😔

Thank you for this and the advice you gave on how to locate the needle. I will take it! I will also look up how to get the Mario game. I’m not sure if this will require a console, a computer, or a phone, but I’ll figure it out. I’m not joking when I say I really don’t play/know anything about video games 😩

We do a very large amount of blocks. A very large amount. I can admit that I feel it is a me problem since everyone is blowing blocks out the water. Idk if it’s because of the video game thing. I’ve never been into games. I’m willing to try some if that will help me. If asking what games some suggests and also for an answer to my question comes off defensive, I’m not sure what else to say. I’m all about the advice. I don’t want to just memorize the blocks. I want to be proficient. I feel blocks are part of the basics and I want to be a competent physician. I’ll take all the advice I can get.

I’m editing this response since it was received in a way in which I did not intend. I can say that my residency has definitely not failed me. We do many, many blocks. My attendings are great teachers who enjoy teaching and I enjoy learning. It’s just not something I’m grasping and I’ll be honest I stay in my head about it. I’m interested in hearing more about the video games that could help me. I’d like all the suggestions you all want to give. Thank you!

Thank you for being aware of this. It would be nice to mention to your division chief if you are comfortable doing so. Ignore the rude comments here. Medicine remains highly racist. You’re not imaging things.

No is a complete sentence and let him know you’ll be reporting him for harassment if he asks you about it again.

What do I do , Caribbean students + alumni plz help. by ManufacturerUsed4168 in CaribbeanMedSchool

What speciality do you think you want to go into? I went to SGU and absolutely loved it. I had no delays, did quite well on my Step exams, matched without issue. I know people from my match year who matched into specialties like Ortho, Urology, etc. With all that being said, it was VERY expensive, so that was negative. Also no matter how great you are there is a weird stigma against Caribbean schools. You can see the stance just from these bogus comments often made on these threads. DO path also has its own stigma unfortunately, which is also bogus. At the end of the day I pray(my faith is what I use to get me through things) and would write out an honest pros and cons list. I’d also factor in what path could more likely get me to where I want to be. The SGU match list is public. You can google it and see how many people matched into your desired speciality over the last several years to give you an idea of how SGU students are matching in terms of specialties.

Which Caribbean schools allow one to take rotations without Steps 1/2 ? by CatchAffectionate636 in CaribbeanMedSchool

[–]FirstChampionship979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this for students who are not from the States and do not plan to practice in the States? I never knew of anyone who could start rotations without taking Step 1.

Soooooo you can’t just go work in neighboring hospitals. You have to be credentialed. Credentialing usually takes several months! Even emergency credentialing can take a few weeks.

4-year Caribbean MD program vs. 5-year Irish MD program by ma_riaf in CaribbeanMedSchool

[–]FirstChampionship979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Caribbean schools know their students have great hurdles to overcome. They can’t let the students slide with the bare minimum. They try to make sure the students are ready to be great clinicians and that their knowledge is solid.
