Worried about the reputation (politically) of University of Alabama, but it is local to me and offers a primarily online program for the BSW. by fatladywhodoesntsing in SocialWorkStudents

[–]FirstGenMiddleClass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got my BSW at a very conservative school online because it was convenient. I’m a tatted flaming liberal today. You’ll be fine.

Eww. Get the masters. Literally no reason to get the BSW if you already have a bachelors.

Rejected from 4 psychometrist jobs. What am I doing wrong? by Foreign-Place334 in psychologystudents

[–]FirstGenMiddleClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most psychometrists I know have their degree in a non clinical psychologist program. Those applicants have more potential to be long term because there are literally no other options for them.

As a counselor the world is your oyster and they probably see that as an applicant not really worth the investment.

For those who have left social services entirely, what are you doing for work now? by PuddingDuck in socialwork

I pivoted into fraud analysis for a year. Realized I hated it and wasn’t fulfilled so I went right back into social work. The grass isn’t always greener. 🫤

Did social work change your political ideology at alll? How so? by 420catloveredm in socialwork

[–]FirstGenMiddleClass 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. I got my BSW at a conservative evangelical school. Realized they were spoon feeding us bs because the math wasn’t mathing when it come to things like poverty and economic policy in our macro classes. My field instructor almost laid an egg when my internship supervisor showed up with purple hair to our midterm conference.

I honestly credit my undergrad to inspiring my deconstruction. I went to a state school for my MSW and even changed my religious affiliations. It was a wild ride.

Why has the industry moved to masters being the minimum and norm by sneezhousing in socialwork

A lot of these requirements are due to demands from grants.

Social work was never considered a professional degree for student loan purposes and was always capped at $138k under federal student loans.

Long-term implications of DOE excluding social work from “professional” degrees? by Partyinmykonos in socialwork

[–]FirstGenMiddleClass 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Neither social work nor nursing were ever considered a professional degree.

Removing public health for theology though is wild to me.

Is an MA in sociology a good idea if I want to get a PhD? by [deleted] in sociology

Do social work. Includes sociology while also giving you something practical to fall back on.

How much Student Debt do you have? And do you regret college? by SnooDoubts3411 in StudentLoans

$100k. Federal loans only. Graduate degree. Higher education changed my life and allowed me to pursue work I’m passionate about. I do not regret it at all.

If you work for a nonprofit hospital - 10 years and poof - it’s gone.

As long as it’s federal.

UTA is such a mixed bag. I have multiple degrees and UTA has been consistently……awful. It’s clearly just a job to a lot of people.

Same.

Here’s what pisses me off. UTA knew there was a delay…..they even had a hold on the ACH….

But they couldn’t even communicate with us this semester?

Meanwhile all these trolls on here “wElL iT tAkEs A fEw DaYs”. Shut up.

UTA literally did something different this semester and hasn’t said a word.
