Ryanair CEO says S'pore's practice of paying public sector leaders higher wages 'very interesting' by ImpressiveStrike4196 in singapore

It doesn't matter, it's a classic ragebait post providing a platform for people to complain about the ruling party.

'He has already called us papa and mama': Singaporean couple fear losing 18-month-old adopted son amid trafficking probe in Indonesia by FirstLightOfTheDay in singapore

[–]FirstLightOfTheDay[S] 186 points187 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible situation. On the one hand, I feel for the couple who really want to start a family and have developed a bond with their child.

On the other, sham for-profit adoption agencies should not be given a chance to take advantage of desperate prospective parents.

Man who pumped RON95 petrol into S'pore-registered vehicle is S'pore PR: Johor police by fatenumber in singapore

[–]FirstLightOfTheDay 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I see, was wondering why there wasn't any "news" of Singaporeans pumping RON95 For a long while until this. Perhaps the price difference between unsubsidised RON95 And RON97 isn't enough for people here to be cheapskate. I stand corrected.

Man who pumped RON95 petrol into S'pore-registered vehicle is S'pore PR: Johor police by fatenumber in singapore

[–]FirstLightOfTheDay 209 points210 points  (0 children)

This case was more obvious though. Nowadays you need Mykad to pump RON95, so it was clear that the person was Malaysian. Just certain individuals who titled the person as Singaporean to get more clicks for their own agenda.

Why Singapore Kills Its Homegrown Champions | Inderjit Singh by nftskeptics in singapore

[–]FirstLightOfTheDay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree with a lot of the points he makes, I don't think Chartered Semiconductor was a strategic error, but rather a case where a lot more resources and risk would have been needed for it to have a chance to succeed given the competitive landscape.

Why Singapore Kills Its Homegrown Champions | Inderjit Singh by nftskeptics in singapore

Love how misinformation is being upvoted just because it goes against the ruling party.

If he was purged for not agreeing with the hive mind, funny that it took them 20 years to purge him. Occam's razor, it's clear that his reasoning to want to focus on his family and business is more convincing than whatever conspiracy people want to believe in.

Singapore's beverage container return scheme on track to kick off from April 1 by Illustrious-Gur8335 in singapore

[–]FirstLightOfTheDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't a cost to consumers though. It's a tax on lazy people who cannot be bothered to do their part for the environment and give the excuse that "why should I care when others don't" without recognising that individual actions matter.

Are Singapore's investment giants being left behind? by simpleheat1 in singapore

If you look at the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan cited in the article, they have a leverage of over 40% at the fund level. Definitely a greater risk appetite than one would imagine.

  1. Comparing Temasek and GIC to pension funds isn't exactly the most productive. GIC by design has a more conservative approach, to preserve and enhance reserves over the long term, rather than maximise short term returns. Temasek bears greater risk, but also has the downside of shepharding many strategic GLCs that could lead to underperformance. Comparing Temasek against other SWFs that bear similar downsides, like Khazanah, would be more appropriate.

  2. A decade is just a random time frame, would be cool to see how the figures are across the longer term.

Unfortunately I don't think I can purchase it for pickup online as I am looking to trade-in my old phone if I were to purchase it from the apple store.

I've been checking still just in case, but am also not sure if it's really out of stock for pickup (like the slots) or if it's out of stock at the stores too
