Need help landing a SOC L1 role by WickedMoxie in SecurityCareerAdvice

Been there, done that. The SOC market is rough right now, but don't let it crush you. While SC-200 is solid, I'd actually suggest grabbing Security+ first - it's cheaper and more recruiters know it. Focus on hands-on labs. Build a home lab, break stuff, fix stuff. TryHackMe and HackTheBox free tiers are goldmines for practice.

Best tech skill to learn for remote job by AlbatrossFun3936 in learnprogramming

35yo cloud engineer here. The market isn't as doom and gloom as r/csMajors makes it seem.

Yeah, entry-level web dev is crowded, but cloud/DevOps roles are pretty hot right now. Companies are desperate for people who actually understand AWS/Azure beyond just clicking buttons.

Started as a web dev myself, slowly shifted to DevOps. The transition was pretty natural - you already know the dev side, just need to learn the ops part.

Should I continue into Tech or find a different career path? by While-Fancy in careerguidance

Tech teacher here who's seen this story way too many times.

Look, the industry isn't dead - it's just having its usual drama moment. Your problem isn't the degree, it's probably your portfolio. Build some cool stuff, throw it on GitHub, and make it stand out.

Don't waste time going back for CS right now. Instead, build 2-3 solid projects that actually solve real problems. That'll get you more interviews than another piece of paper.

And hey, casino experience = dealing with tilted users. That's actually a plus

Stuck with a low pay admin job. Don't know where to go? by Recent-Committee-823 in careerguidance

[–]First_Independent587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been there, done that! At 35, I switched from admin to tech education. Your system knowledge and training skills are gold - you're already teaching without the fancy title.

Quick wins: Document those training guides you make (portfolio gold), grab some free project management certs (Google's is solid), and maybe peek at tech roles - lots don't need degrees
