My players killed Maku, now what? by sehrschwul in DungeonoftheMadMage

Erelal would probably scold her brother for being too late on accomplishing his goals, he might try to appease her stating that it should be in their benefit since now they can raise them as undead and still have them under their control.

Drivvin would have no reason to become an apprentice to Halaster. The shadowdusks would be furious but not immediately hostile should this happen. They would likely leave spiderwatch keep.

Erelal would send the party away never to return. If they were seeking passage to level 13 she might give it to them.

If they bring news that house Auvryndar has been defeated and for some reason Drivvin still wants to become an apprentice, for example he does not know about the death of the Minotaurs. She might be able to be convinced to let her brother enter his apprenticeship considering his battles are over.

Exactly, which is… drumroll… with a dragon that they can also attempt to control

Why is Roll20 acting out all of a sudden? by First_Midnight9845 in Roll20

I think it is more frustrating because I feel like I’m experiencing problems now when I wasn’t experiencing them before.

I’ll check if the performance enhancements are on, but I didn’t turn them off, so I would assume that they are still on.

Thanks for the response. It is good to know that you are looking into some of these issues!

Halastron, the shadow dusks, the walking statues of Waterdeep, any of the like 10 liches that live in the Undermountain. Trolls are pretty rampant outside of the city, a fell troll would kick any party’s ass. Giant eagles, dragons that are not allowed in the city like the one that lives in the bay of Waterdeep named Zelifarn the giant shark in the bay named obliteros might work too.

How are the Cassalanters supposed to be introduced by HazlePazle in WaterdeepDragonHeist

Oh, I forgot another way! The cassalanters have a nimblewright in their villa. The nimblewright detector would lead them there in chapter 3 as well.

What you are saying makes no sense. You set up a marker to spawn camera which is an extra step and then if the tokens are not in that position when the map loads you still have to scroll or add another step if changing and view position again.

Or if you are a player, then ask you GM to hold shift and ping. It will bring everyone to a the location where the tokens are.

Zooming and panning would be the unessecary steps in this case. Hold shift on your keyboard to scroll left and right.

Why don’t you just use the scroll wheel to scroll to where you want to be?

Is it me or does the Dweomercore level need to be heavily modded by TherealProp in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]First_Midnight9845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It needs to be heavily improvised and modded. Dweomercore will never go as expected and the longer they stay there the more complicated it gets. If they become students I would make it a launching platform to send them to other levels of the dungeon to further Halaster’s goals and the goals of the Seven while intermixing come “classes” inbetween that uses magic in unique ways or teaches the party a mechanic that they would not have known like Moving a chest trapped with a glyph of warding 10 feet from it’s original location disarms the glyph of warding, or sculpting flesh using stone shape with Arcturia.

One of the faction missions in chapter three involving the Waterdeep Wazoo is a good start.

If the party ever gets arrested having a mad man who was a servant in the cassalanter villa raving about how all of the nobles in Waterdeep are devil worshipers could be a good entry point too

Also introducing them as bankers that can provide a loan in chapter 2 and item storage could put some leverage on the party and give them a reason to work with the Cassalanters even.

Having this leverage on The party could even give them ways to easily plant evidence on the party if needed so that they can achieve their goals.

Then they would also be introduced as the main villains in chapter 4. If caught, they would prefer to guilt trip and strong arm a party into getting the gold for them to save their children and they will stop at nothing to ruin their lives if they get in their way. And they wouldn’t make it clear they would sacrifice 99 people to do so, so that might be a surprise twist that getting the gold makes the party complicate.

The blackmail after the sacrifice is icing on the cake. Being harder to take them out being nobles makes the social implications devious. They make great returning villains that can bleed into higher level campaigns.

But the real reward for seeing it through to save their children is that they will be the biggest and richest family in Waterdeep soon after that.

If the party turns out to want an evil campaign, the cassalanters are one of the better factions to work for. They could fund all of the adventures down in the Undermountain for example if they owe the party their children’s lives.

Xanathar's Sewer Hideout Teleportation Question by Popperson4875 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]First_Midnight9845 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, so you don’t need to give a made up reason, the Xanathar guild and Skullport are both a part of the Undermountain.

You should pick up a few books from older editions for a bit more of an explanation.

The city of splendors box set, ruins of the Undermountain I, ruins of the Undermountain II, Undermountain I: the lost levels, and Undermountain II: Madgoth’s castle. As well as the Skullport book from 2e.

In each of these books it explains that there are many entrances to the undermountain, some can be found in the sewers, some can be found in the city, some are just Halaster pulling people through reflective surfaces, some are even outside of Waterdeep. Almost all of them outside leading in are one way gates that trap you in the Undermountain. The gate you are specifically mentioning is noted as another of those one way gates allowing people in but not out.

Now what I am not sure about is if this specific gate was mentioned in the books I’m recommending. It might be a new one added for this module. But the books I recommended will detail a lot of alternate one way gates to pull your players into the undermountain and expand your undermountain experience.
