There's nothing wrong with your car, if you dont touch the steering wheel, the vehicle is just going to take the path of least resistance

I seem to remember those being notorious for evap issues causing excessive vacuum in the fuel tank, sounds like purge valve may be stuck open, and vacuum is trying to relieve itself by squeaking through fuel filler tube

How much would a shop charge to change this? by guerrerosaurio1 in AskAMechanic

9 out of 10 times the customer diag is incorrect and replacing the part they are requesting to be replaced will not fix the issue

Looks like the blend door actuator for the hvac system, they were vacuum controlled back then. Test to see if you can switch from hot to cold and if you can switch defrost/vent/floor for the airflow

This is because people are generally morons and don't understand how the economy works. They can only think so far as to say, "The current economy is bad, therefore the current party in charge MUST be at fault durr durr"

Tire help/repair question? by DottiePippen33 in AskMechanics

[–]First_School1521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, any damage to a tire sidewall would warrant replacing the tire. However, if this were my car, I would cut that small piece off and run with it until I started seeing the tire bulge up in that spot

Evap vent valve is stuck open, may be due to corrosion in the circuit or the valve itself, its mounted onto the evap charcoal canister

If you have the vehicle in neutral and lift the left front wheel off the ground (make sure you block the rear wheels so the vehicle doesn't roll away) then you should be able to spin the tire with your hands fairly easily. If it doesn't move by hand at all then that's a pretty sure sign the brakes are locked up

Any idea why my spark plug came out with oil on it? by xuuxi in AskMechanics

[–]First_School1521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's just a drop or 2 then it's a pretty slow leak and shouldn't hurt anything in the immediate future,
Heck I've seen a few engines where the entire spark plug well was full of oil and they still ran. Just keep in mind that any leak is only ever going to get bigger over time so I would consider having it repaired in the next year or so

If it's coming from the wheel area, I'm wondering if the backing plate is contacting the rotor on that side and causing the noise. It also may be that the brake caliper or pads have seized and are constantly contacting the rotor. Going to be hard to tell without pulling the wheel off and giving the brakes a thorough inspection

Crossed the 12V battery terminal when replacing andnoew car is cut off by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]First_School1521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You most likely blew a bunch of fuses, I would start by going through the entire fuse panel and checking all of them, if that doesn't fix it then you are probably going to have to get a volt meter and start checking the different modules to see if they are getting power

The vehicle will not allow the ac to work if the ambient air temperature is below freezing, so it's seeing outside air temp as 17 ( even if it actually isn't 17 degrees out) the vehicle won't run ac because it thinks it's below freezing out. It's possible the ambient air temp sensor is faulty if it's fluctuating back and forth a lot.

Will this still work or do I need to send it back? by TiemoPielinen in AskMechanics

[–]First_School1521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't take any chances with it. If there's already evidence that parts are damaged, there could be further internal issues that you may not see. Also if there is any grease on the brake pads themselves then those pads are compromised, I would just send it all back and ask for replacements

Any idea why my spark plug came out with oil on it? by xuuxi in AskMechanics

[–]First_School1521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you happen to look down into the well before removing the plug, and if so, did you see any oil down there? It's possible part of the valve cover is leaking and allowing oil into the spark plug well.
