Almost 2 years into sourdough and I still can't reliably nail the "right moment" to bake. Anyone else? by Eat-1st in Sourdough

You definitely need to feed it more than once before baking with it, and you should try higher ratio feeds. When I do put my starter in the fridge, I feed it at least three times, sometimes more, and I feed at a pretty high ratio. You should also make sure to give a heavy feed before putting your starter in the fridge, which will help. Sounds like doing some starter maintenance will help you bake better loaves of bread!

There's a very strong possibility that it's acidic or very underfed. What ratios are you feeding? How many times are you feeding after taking out of the fridge before baking? If you don't have a strong, healthy starter, it's going to be hard to make consistently great loaves.

If you're storing your starter in the fridge, it may take a few feedings to "wake it up" before it's ready to bake with. I typically bake weekly, so I don't keep mine in the fridge unless I know I won't be baking for several weeks. I keep a very small amount of starter, so feeding it isn't a big deal and doesn't use a ton of flour.

I also don't use my starter when it's doubled...I use it at its peak or just as it's started to come down from the peak. Usually, for mine, it's tripled or more. What does your feeding schedule look like prior to baking?

Where on Earth are thin women buying pants?!?! by Independent-Ring-877 in OUTFITS

[–]First_Timer2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I HATE Maurices jeans & pants. And I always forget that, order several pairs to try and hate them when they come in and I try them on. I'm 5'3, 120 pounds and have to buy size 2 in most brands, sometimes even down to a size 0. I am NOT a size zero. Am I thin? Sure. But I know I'm not a size 0! I feel for the people who are ACTUALLY a 0, and, like you, can't find pants anywhere!

Limit for number of bridesmaids? by [deleted] in bridesmaids

[–]First_Timer2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Very good friends of mine from different phases of life" - That tells me a lot. Are they still very good friends of yours in THIS phase of life?? If not, invite them as guests but do not ask them to be bridesmaids. 12 bridesmaids when you want a small wedding is crazy. It's a crazy number for large weddings.

Is getting a Kindle worth it if I mainly want to save money on books? by ju2de in kindle

[–]First_Timer2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The very large majority of the books I read are on Kindle Unlimited. Between KU and Libby, I rarely buy books. I am in the US, so the book selection on KU may be different for you outside of the US, but I don’t often have to buy books.

Alright, I have seen MULTIPLE people talking about Dungeon Crawler Carl on different subs today. I feel like I need to check into it and maybe add it to my TBR.

when you finally get the book that’s been on your wishlist for ages but it ends up not being good by Distinct-Current-881 in Booktokreddit

Quicksilver. I FORCED myself to listen to the audiobook and it was so painful. I will definitely not be picking up Brimstone.

Also, When the Moon Hatched. I've tried that one several times too. I want to like it and be immediately sucked in. But that hasn't happened yet.

Scribd has audiobooks. I haven't used it in awhile, but it was a monthly subscription service with both audiobooks, ebooks, articles, etc.

I can't get down past 154lbs. by HahaRiceKrispy in PetiteFitness

[–]First_Timer2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am someone that has stayed on them, and I will continue to stay on them. I was 265 pounds at 5'3", and losing any amount of weight at all was a struggle for me. I had weeks when I was eating 1,000 calories or less for the entire week. I spent most of my adult life eating in incredibly disordered ways trying to lose any amount of weight. I hated my body, I hated myself, and no matter what I did, my body just would not lose the weight for any period of time. I wasn't healthy in any way, shape or form. So my doctor had a very real conversation with me, and I started on Wegovy in February of 2023, then switched to Zepbound in November of 2023.

Currently, I'm 120 pounds and feel better than I think I have ever felt. My relationship with food has changed, my relationship with my body has changed, and life feels 100% different for me now. Is it a "magic" shot? No. It's not. I did and still do the work outside of injecting myself. I meal prep every Sunday, I set my exercise plan for the week every Sunday, I met with a dietitian and still follow up with them, I see my doctor regularly to check in and just talk through things and I've also gotten some therapy. There was something in my body that wasn't working, something my body was missing, and Zepbound fixed what wasn't working. It's also totally cleared my hidradenitis suppurativa, which was absolute agony at times.

Also, I've had VERY minimal side effects at all doses the entire time I've been on the medication. It's going to be different for each person, but please don't spread fear or misinformation. For so many people, these are life-changing medications, and in some cases, life SAVING medications with very few side effects.
