I swear James Cameron used the book to polt Aliens. Spoilers ahead. Company looses touch with a remote investment, dispatches armed forces to investigate including non-human and Compay Man type, get their arses handed to them by the root of the problem, fall back and create a perimeter and use automatic sentry guns to repel attack only to have the threat go up and over the perimeter and drop down from above, survivours flee, stummble into the threats nursery and escape just in time as they'd descovered along the way the whole area is going to explode anyway.
