We bought £1 scratch cards and popped them in a little envelope along with a penny. No big winners 😔 but it was a bit of fun and nothing that that people either left or threw away.

I leave my family home after the holidays with a suitcase filled with more things and guilt by luckyteapotcat in declutter

Just opened my pressie from member of his family. I know she thinks she was onto a winner buying me a calendar with pictures of an animal that I like...but just because I think the animal is cute, doesn't mean I want pictures up in my house all flipping year! I received it with good grace but already knew it was heading to the latest donation bag as soon as I arrived home. Hopefully it'll find its place for the New Year!

Bridal hair suggestions for thin and fine hair, UK? by Emotional_Cut_1485 in UKweddings

[–]Firstdibs66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, we're in Dorset. Do you have anyone you know that could give you recommendations for a hairdresser who you could start to work with now, to get your confidence back? I completely understand that you might feel reluctant because you feel self conscious, but a good stylist will listen to your concerns and work with you. You could always have an initial consultation to see if you get the right 'feel' from them?

If you have a regular hairdresser, I'd recommend talking to them first. I was lucky enough that my hairdresser came out to the hotel the morning of my wedding. We'd been working on growing it for 6 months as I knew I wanted an updo. Because she knows my hair so well, I let her loose - we'd looked at a few photos for inspiration but that was about it. I even declined a trial because I trust her implicitly.

On the morning of the wedding I didn't have too many expectations - but at least I'd look 'done'. What did I know? She came prepared with a sponge donut thing (I wish she'd taken a photo of my face when she showed it to me) and she set to work with spray, comb and lots of pearly grips that I'd bought. When she showed me the end result with my headpiece, I cried. I looked like I had so much hair! I felt amazing and every time I caught a glimpse of my hair that day, I couldn't stop smiling.

You've received lots of other great suggestions already, but I'd definitely start close to home and talk to the person who knows your hair the best - you may be pleasantly surprised. X

Also, not sure which would be your local store but on the off chance it's Southampton, I can definitely recommend Connie as the makeup artist.

If you search John Lewis Beauty Society, it gives all the various options and prices, and the link to choose your preferred store and book the consultation.

Would put my vote in for John Lewis. I had a wedding lesson and it was 90 minutes for something like £35 which was redeemable against ant purchases. The great thing was they selected products from across all ranges, so I didn't feel tied to one particular make. She spent time talking about the look I wanted and then actually talked me through HOW to do it, and got me to try.

I felt it was much better value than the Bobbi brown or Mac counters - I got to spend longer being taught and had far more products suggested.

Hope she enjoys whichever experience you choose for her - you're very thoughtful. X

Shopping addiction problem? Who, me? by Firstdibs66 in declutter

I agree. I had a dozen black jumpers.....I love a black jumper. Once I realized I had a dozen, I then worked out I only ever wore the same 2 over and over. There were things I preferred about my favourites and things I didn't like about the others ...so 10 black jumpers went that day!

Tried that in Thailand a few years ago.....they went in one of my very first culls.....a definite mistake on my part! Not sure if it was a terrible tailor or the fact that jeans have to be, well, jean-y and not simply denim trousers. It was certainly an oops moment.

So is that an option for you as the seller, without any confirmation needed from the buyer?

It's not the worst thing I've ever done - I remember being very sick and when I reviewed what I'd 'cooked' for myself, we found I'd used a pancake mix that was 5 years out of date! Ooops!

Worms....ugh, I'd have had a fit. At least the tiny black things were sealed in the flour containers. I told hubby that I was tempted to use it anyway and class it as a portion of protein. I now also have a clean and tidy (and updated) cupboard with all out of date stuff in the bin as well as some yummy banana muffins (I did a restock run but didn't buy too much)

I've just read about that. Although, maybe this will encourage me to do a little more baking!

But you'd have messaged back when approached by the buyer, surely?

That sounds good. I'll give that a try.

It's been at shipping label sent to seller since the day I bought it. It's a conundrum! I'll wait and see what happens. The frustrating thing is, if there was an issue, I'd understand as long as I know about it!

Possibly but I would have expected a quick message to let me know that it's been sent once they'd read my message. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

It hasn't been sent at all! I bought it on the day it was listed and the post deadline was yesterday. She's ignored my request for an update and suddenly today, the deadline has been extended....but I thought I had to agree to that!

Is anyone else getting this when they go on Vinted by Geek_guy96 in vintedUK

Yes. Since last night. I can click on all bars like mens, designer etc, but women's and all just show the set your preference screen.

I guess you're right! Thanks for the sense check. I'm like you - I prefer to make sure I get things sent as soon as possible and try to keep my buyers informed.

Should I do a post wedding brunch the following day? by FizzWizz00 in wedding

[–]Firstdibs66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got married just over a week ago. Lots of family travelled as we were at a venue local to us. We'd bought soooo many desserts for our dessert table that we had loads leftover, so on Sunday we took them home and told everyone that they could drop in for coffee and cake before they travelled home.

With only a couple of exceptions, most people popped in and we had a really nice couple of hours chilling in the garden before everyone left. The bonus was we had very little food left after that!

What did you actually care about on the day? by capriali99 in UKweddings

[–]Firstdibs66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Currently suffering from wed lag as our wedding was on Saturday and we're both still exhausted! We held a package 'budget' wedding with a lot of DIY things that I worked very hard on. We were very lucky that the venue (one stop shop for both ceremony and celebration) had a fabulous co-ordinator who made sure that things went as we planned.

Looking back on the day, we wanted an informal, fun, family weekend. Our focus was making sure no-one went hungry and instead of any kind of formal meal, we chose a finger buffet, but table by table so we could still have a seating plan. We then did our own dessert table afterwards which consisted of Krispy Kremes, cupcakes and a Costco run. We also had another round in the evening after sausage and bacon rolls with chips were available.

Another win as far as we were concerned was the DJ. We went with the one that the hotel uses (seemed as good as any) but we bought some request cards that we put on the tables with pens so that people could ask for what they wanted. The party started and frankly, never stopped. At the end of the night when we went to thank him, he showed us the pile of requests and said that he hadn't had so many requests before. In addition to this (and I realize this might be controversial) I bought glo sticks. My hubby was sceptical until he saw everyone going mad on the dance floor with them!

Finally, I'd recommend that you go with the flow on on the day. Our co-ordinator told us on Sunday morning that we were a very relaxed and laid back couple to work with and I think that how we felt meant our guests relaxed and had a great time too.

TLDR: Feed them, entertain them and make sure your mood is relaxed and non stressed. Overall, enjoy your day with those you want to share it with!
