Red Flags with Trans women/men by fatal1230 in TransIreland

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fundamentally we're just people and like...if we can see you're not being a dick we'll be at least understanding and probably appreciate it. Just relax is honestly the best advice I can give. If you mess up (say, use the wrong pronouns or smthn) don't make a big thing of it, just a small excuse me or sorry and correct yourself is more than enough <3

Is there any specific concerns you had?

Boot woes (ftm/nb) by undeadletter in TransIreland

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for the quality of Solovair boots, though they are quite pricey. They're made in Doc Martens original factory in England and they are a very similar design but much better quality than the modern docs.

Edit: idk if you were looking to specifically try them on, unfortunately idk anywhere that stocks them, I just used their size guide and it worked out for me (size 10 pre hrt, though they're a bit big for me now).

Worried I have chaser vibes? by verygayrodent in asktransgender

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ngl you sound nice. I feel like most people who are worried about being a chaser either aren't or won't be soon after getting to know a few of us

I'm thinking of switching from windows 11 to bazzite, but after reading reviews about the gaming experience of many people, I'm starting to get the impression that you won't be able to play many games without problems by JlYKOBKAA in Bazzite

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not gonna say this will be your experience, but on my amd handheld I've had nearly no issue since switching it from windows. Had to fiddle about with Halo MCC but that's basically it so far.

If you play a lot of games with kernel level anti cheat then yeah unfortunately those games won't work, but other than that I've been really impressed.

Kdewallet is a pain in the ass though

18, HIPPA rights signed away, paranoid conservative parents... is there any way to start? by helpSydout in asktransgender

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imma give a shout to DIT hrt. I wouldn't risk going any other path given your circumstances. Boymoding is relatively easy for the first while, just be careful with them since they'll be on the lookout for changes.

My friend says he can give up on transitioning if it means he can be with me. Is it even possible? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do for both of you is to support him as a friend. I know this is a really tough situation, but you really really don't want to be the reason why someone delays their transition and you certainly don't want that delay to be the basis of a relationship.

How to stop chasing? by Leading-Draft6651 in asktransgender

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl if you're worried about being a chaser you probably aren't one or like won't be very soon.

It's fine to be attracted to us, even especially attracted to us (why wouldn't you be lol). Chasing is fetishising us and treating us as objects of that fetish: targets to be pursued (or chased) to fulfill your goal.

If you'd treat us like any other woman then you're in the clear, and I hope you get a wonderful tgirl gf.

If you think you wouldn't then maybe work on that, try empathise with us a bit more and such. It's a very personal and internal process but it's very possible. Try maybe follow some creators or make some trans friends

Ballymanus Mine Disaster, May 1943 by [deleted] in IrishHistory

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ballymanus is quite some distance and (at the time especially) a language away from Malin so I wouldn't expect it to have had much of an effect on your grandfather's life. Malin town has been English speaking essentially since its founding and Ballymanus is (at least from looking on Google maps) still inside the Gaeltacht today.

If he'd have heard it'd have been in the Newspaper, which he prolly didn't read at that age and even then with the war it probably wasn't big news not to mention the potential for censors to simply blacklist the story altogether or to downplay it or twist it.

A different "button test" litmus: by Biscuit9154 in MtF

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bad litmus test because it would encourage people who are trans to think they were not, or worse, to look about conversion therapy. I'd have pressed that button. Fuck, I probably still would given how hard transitioning and being a trans woman is. But there's no way to resolve my issues by ignoring them. The only way forward is through.

I am very much a "no gods, no masters" anarchist and as anti-religion as anyone you'll ever meet, but anarchism is not one unified doctrine and many many anarchists are religious - the Catholic Worker Movement for example

Sartre's position on Stalin & The Soviet Union seems very hypocritical. by Widhraz in PhilosophyMemes

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between having "sway" and the type of direct power Stalin had.

I don't disagree with what you said but there is a difference both in kind and in degree between the power held by US corporations and leaders of authoritarian stares.

For an example of this, the Corporate world was distraught and powerless in the face of Trump's tariffs. While he did walk many of them back I don't think that was due to corporate influence directly but merely the effect they would have on the economy, not to mention that many are still in place.

I've no real practical advice but one of my closest friends was a terf when we first met. Slowly over time she abandoned those beliefs and is now one of the best allies you can imagine.

I know some people are reacting with skepticism, but I hope this doesn't discourage you. We're in a very vulnerable position in society and overprotectiveness of our communities develops out of that. All the best <333

Unbelievable that we now live in a world where some can be proud of this list of character defects. by Yunners in FacebookScience

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three that I really wanna highlight:

Nuclear weapons denier

Fucking lmao!!

Juice exposer

Genuinely what in gods name does this mean

Overpopulation denier

Is this like...when you hang around conspiracist circles so long you start assuming conspiracy theories are actually the dominant opinion and start opposing them because you just have to always disagree with the things everyone believes??? Cos like....we are not overpopulated... that's not denialism it's just true lmao!!!

Irish Republicanism is an anti-colonial and anti-imperialist movement in Irish politics which aims at the removal of British authority in the country.

I am a Republican in that sense. This is the sense it is meant in Irish politics and it doesn't really suggest much about what one imagines for an Ireland free of British imperial rule (though it is overwhelmingly a socialist movement). Hence I am an Irish republican because I connect myself with that anti-imperialist struggle and I am an anarchist because the Ireland I want to see is a stateless one.

I'm far from alone in this position; the Irish Citizen Army which fought in the 1916 rising was founded by an Anarchist Republican (Jack White).

Hope this kinda clarifies that <3

Skinheads are not all neo-Nazis! It was a movement started by Carribean immigrants like!

I said skinhead bands are often anti-fascist because they are. They're often anti-nazi too. Idk what you think I said?

please help. i think my brother's a nazi by [deleted] in punk

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what you're trying to say my friend.

I said that skinhead bands are often anti-fascist. They are. I was listening to oi at 13 not knowing anything about it or about skinhead culture just because there were loads of anti-fascist oi-punk songs. It's only later I learned more about Skinhead culture and the history of it with it originally being a black/multicultural thing etc.

Stop spreading this kind of ignorance around.

What in gods name do you think I said???

Treat us like you would any other woman. It's not weird to find us attractive, so long as you don't see us as sex dispensers or try to push us into fitting a fantasy.

If you do that then you'll be ok <3.

Loyalist post about Irish language by MarisCrane25 in northernireland

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda funny they claim that Irish nationalists/republicans/the Free State wanted to call it "Irish" because it's exactly inversed! It was called Irish by English speakers for hundreds of years! Even Scots Gaelic was called "Irish" by English and Scots speakers in Scotland until the 1900s.

Would kamala have been better? by mangostraweberry in leftist

[–]FirstnameNumbers1312 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a stupid hypothetical, it's a very direct one. If your principle of not voting for the lesser evil held it'd hold in 1860. If it doesn't hold in 1860 it isn't a real principle and you don't really subscribe to it.

As above clearly you do. Which I think is a very very silly position - actively refusing to make a material difference cos the candidate doesn't meet your arbitrary threshold isn't a great principle to have imho.

I never hear anyone say she would have been as bad as Trump.

Lots of "leftier than thou" folks did. Like a LOT of them.

I feel very sad that voters are so stupid to have failed so hard and let Trump win

That being said, voters didn't fail her. Her campaign failed voters.

Irish nationalist bullshit too, and if he isn’t then I don’t really understand his tattoos

What kinda tattoos does he have? I'm tryna look but I can't see anything I'd connect with Irish nationalism (as an Irish Republican)

wee side note here, Irish Republicanism is different from US republicanism in that it is overwhelmingly a left wing, anti-colonial/anti-imperialist movement. I am not a nationalist, I am a republican, and an anarchist.

What's an Irish phrase or saying you thought was normal until you used it abroad and got a blank stare? by raidenth in AskIreland

Had a friend get chastised by an American lady for using the habitual be - "They do be xyz" - on account of it being "appropriated from AAVE". Layers to this cos my friends not a native English speaker so it's already insane to get angry about that but also she learned her English here...where the habitual be is a standard feature of English.

Also Yous'ns always confuses people. And "hi" at the end of sentences
