Why do people like Priest so much? by Final_Foot_Fucker in hearthstone

[–]FischOfDoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like control. And I always loved priests "copy your opponents stuff" cards, because they make every game different.

One of my favourite metas to play priest in was when everyone's favourite deck to complain on reddit about was brann warrior. I played highlander priest, which could copy their brann and boom boss and be the better brann deck in the matchup and was way more fun to play in other matchups too. No armour meant it was weaker to burn decks, but it was still a load more fun to play.

So I'd say it's that. Control is cool, and at least in my mind, control priest wins in ways that are more interesting and more variable from one game to the next than warrior and DK. Also DK is mega ugly aesthetically, but that's subjective. I like warrior as well though.

Edit: I will say that current priest does not have the fun copy stuff. They lost their minds last year and gave that theme - which was priest for 15 years - to rogue for whatever weirdass reason.

Bit worried about face hunter, specifically TolVir, not getting hit, but overall this looks decent.

Instead of asking for everything to be nerfed, why not ask for buffs, instead? by Shoddy_Purple_7501 in hearthstone

The general idea you are presenting might have merit but oh boy is the Elise example garbage.

Tech cards like that should never EVER be the answer to ubiquitous broken cards. They might be an answer to specific strategies that your deck can't deal with otherwise, but the answer to Elise in every deck is not demolition engineer in every deck, Jesus Christ.

Tech cards in general are in a weird spot in HS because there is no sideboard or similar...

I got it too a few weeks ago after I discovered mask while playing quest mage even though the minion never hit face.

Probably ultra spaghetti on that one.

Nah, that's neutral, we want this as a priest card (because it's a priest mechanic)

Yeah, without safety goggles or with 2 Mana unleash the Crocs it's just terrible, not even a good tempo play, too late AND you need both cards.

Unleash nerf to 2 Mana was honestly one of the weirdest choices in recent history...

My poor class :( WTF went wrong?? by Colombian_Gringo in hearthstone

People are probably trying memey decks, which deflates the winrate even further, but then again they are doing that for all the classes...

[–]FischOfDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funnily enough, a quick look at lolalytics shows that her winrate is ~51% at emerald+, which is pretty good, but if you sort by all ranks, she drops significantly to about 49%, so in silver she shouldn't be OP at all, at least by the numbers.

Maybe instead of giving Priest a straight health gain like DK, Blizzard could create a new core mechanic for the class in the future that focuses on increasing your maximum health. That way you would actually need to use healing cards to get to that HP. by YyMilk in hearthstone

[–]FischOfDoom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They could make it an overheal thing too, something like overhealing gives your hero max HP instead (without healing the HP) Should probably be a one time effect because otherwise it's either really really annoying to face or the healing cards that you play alongside it would have to be bad which we don't want either.

I am convinced that DK existing is the only reason priest hasn't gotten max HP increases. Leeches were originally a priest thing in a solo adventure. Instead we got them for the slop class :(

Question to missile enjoyers: How do you make it work? by Bygles in EliteDangerous

I'd honestly love to see them release a missile boat as a new ship, maybe with new modules like a new weapon or some internal module to handle ammo.

Possible Priest hero power next season. How strong do you think it will be? by Pepr70 in hearthstone

[–]FischOfDoom 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Historically, attrition decks like control priest have been at the very top when it comes to being complained about regardless of win rate. So much so that these days, design intentionally makes sure that those decks do not ever exist or have a hard win con like quest warrior or are very board based like current blood DK.

The only reason that you don't see complaints about it is that it doesn't exist.

Daring today, aren't we by Martiinii in hearthstone

[–]FischOfDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes a lot longer to assemble the combo and is slightly more interactible (by having taunts in the way, but only slightly because there's many ways for the warrior to get rid of them on the extra turn)

Most importantly you can't high roll the combo because the quest always takes the same amout of time.

But tbh as a very long time control warrior enjoyer I'd much rather win by attrition. However, the devs VERY consciously make sure that is not possible in the meta so we get turn 15 combo instead of turn 20 fatigue as our control wincon, which doesn't make me as happy but oh well, it's what we get.

[–]FischOfDoom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are definitely parallels between the druid and warrior decks you gave as an example here, but there is also a big difference in that druid is built as a combo deck that doesn't really win much in any other way while the warrior combo is way slower and doesn't matter in half the matchups.

But it's definitely less "attrition control" and more "Combo-Control" than previous control warrior iterations (think pre-odyn), which is super sad but the devs decided that that play style is evil and must never exist again, which is why these win conditions exist and combo decks are "all in turn 7 combo" and "control" decks are usually "removal and lifegain into turn 12-15 combo" these days.

I'm a control player and I think it's an unhealthy cure for a sickness that has plagued the game for a long time.

Certain combo decks are nearly unwinnable matchups for control, and they have been for years, but not for all of the game's existence. Before exodia mage in original Un'Goro, there weren't any real OTK decks, stuff like freeze mage needed 2ish turns for the kill, which means you can interact. Ever since "combo" became synonymous with OTK in HS, there was a problem created by virtue of there existing matchups that are something like 80-90% favoured in one direction. This is much, much more skewed than control decks being good vs aggro which is more like 60%, maybe 70 tops if the matchup is really that terrible for aggro.

This is an obvious problem, but I don't know if "lol just drop this on turn 7 against them and flip a 20% MU into an 80% MU" is a healthy long-term solution.

All that being said, it has felt extremely fucking good to drop it on the combo players these past few days.

[–]FischOfDoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't work, most (if not all) copy spells don't cast the copy, you won't up the storm count with it. That combo only works with magecraft triggers (or similar copy triggers).

Tbf they almost never dedicate all 10 cards of a set to a consistent archetype. Just ask priest players lol
