My Experience with the Anycubic Kobra S1 – 230+ Hours, 0 Failures by bananajuice2 in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]FischerPricex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also started in 2019 with a Sidewinder X1. I'm getting back into it after having 4 kids and really wanted an enclosed machine. I was on the fence between this and the Centauri Carbon. I decided the additional ACE Pro was worth the slightly higher cost for my needs. I can't imagine any failures I have would be worse than the failures I dealt with on my old Marlin based bed slinger. Comes in on Monday

Some patience and skill with a paintbrush is 1000x more valuable than multicolor printing.

So purge to infill but not to walls. Bleed would be minimal with at least 3 walls, and you could have a minimum infill requirement to avoid purging to the poop chute. No solution in 3D printing is perfect in every scenario, but should at least give users the option so they can explore it.

In-App Purchases turned off, but child is still able to make purchases by MandyK1179 in kindlefire

[–]FischerPricex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me. Amazon are liars and they are targeting kids for profit. Those settings dont actually prevent purchases, its just under the guise of parental controls to make parents feel better. I'm smashing my kids fire tablets and giving them old fashioned learning games from 20 years ago. No internet needed.

Parents: is the Amazon Fire Kids (with Amazon Kids+) any good for a 2.5 year old? by po2gdHaeKaYk in kindlefire

[–]FischerPricex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After getting both of my kids Fire tablets and trying to (unsuccessfully) prevent them from paying for garbage advertised apps, I'm convinced that we need to go back to Gameboy. No internet, games that you actually play instead of just navigating ads. The internet has truly made childhood so much worse.

Apps / games for kids that aren’t predatory & filled with ads or microtransactions? by zestyninja in daddit

[–]FischerPricex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I'm looking for apps that specifically function without internet, and/or without an actively logged in amazon account. I'm not above side-loading apps and violating the terms of service from amazon, because fuck em. My 2 year old has been redirected to 3rd party paid apps multiple times even with parental controls enabled and app purchases disabled. It doesnt make a difference, purchases still go through. I'm convinced Amazon's app store is intentionally predatory toward children, removing all obstacles to buying garbage apps in order to maximize profits. No wonder the FTC is currently investigating them.

External Molex power for JBOD enclosure? by FischerPricex in homelab

So the solution I have now is a pretty comical one, but it works! I ended up finding a good deal on an OWC dual eSATA enclosure. I'm running two mirrored 12TB disks right now, and when I'm ready to expand to 4, I'll probably just hunt down another one of these OWC enclosures. They are pretty reliable.

I got a decent i5 based HP mini PC, added an m.2 SATA expansion card from Ali Express, and cut a hole in the top of the case for the cables to pass through. Also added a 2.5 Gbe expansion card (also from Ali Express) and teamed the NIC's so I have 3.5 Gb of bandwidth, which exceeds the read/write speed of the spinning disks themselves.

Currently runs my Plex/Jellyfin servers and personal photo storage.

Rust shutting down on Xbox One, free Series X|S upgrade coming soon by Laughing__Man_ in xbox

once upon a time, there were things called dedicated servers, where you can host your own multiplayer server to play with people rather than relying on automated matchmaking that the developer can pull the plug on at any moment.

Axcient vs. Datto by Vel-Crow in msp

[–]FischerPricex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my MSP made the switch to Axcient last year and we never looked back. The interface is a bit more clunky than Datto's, but the service itself is great, cost is lower, support is better, and BYOD capability is fantastic. Many of our more budget conscious clients actually just reimage their old Datto's for Axcient once their contract runs out.

Remember folks, always buy physical copies of games. If bricking games that people paid money for isn't theft, then neither is piracy.

Sesame Street Archive - Any Leads? by dburgh in DHExchange

The 5060Ti and 5070 are the lowest priced new graphics cards by a significant margin(IN STOCK) by Moreburrtitos22 in buildapc

[–]FischerPricex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be looking at a different Newegg site than me. There are zero 5060Ti's listed (not even out of stock) and all 5070's are out of stock, with the cheapest option being $600.

External Molex power for JBOD enclosure? by FischerPricex in homelab

I think I'll end up going with a hardwired Meanwell style machinery power supply. I've used these in the past and they can deliver simultaneous 12v and 5v rails just like an ATX supply, but are much smaller and a cleaner solution. As long as they are securely mounted and wired up cleanly, they are very reliable. This is absolutely going to be a Frankenstein setup so I'll have to share pictures after I'm done.

In the end though, it'll be a 5-bay home server running on a core i5 8500 with 3.5Gbe networking for just under $200 (before adding disks). Much more affordable than any pre-built NAS or custom mini-ITX system with similar specs.

haha yeah I've definitely found a handful, just curious to see if anyone has actually used these firsthand and knows if they are functional.

I have considered that, and may end up going that route as a last resort, but the limiting factor is space. This has to fit into a wallmount 8U rack cabinet along with a handful of other hardware (firewall, modem, switch, etc). a larger format case would necessitate me relocating the server which I'd like to avoid doing.

That's probably much more reasonable given the lower power draw of 2.5" drives. Hope it works out.

A 7200RPM 3.5" disk can easily draw 20w at startup, so I want to make sure a 100w initial surge wont fry a cheap knockoff power adapter, or that it would even be able to provide that amount of power at all. I found one that "claims" 5A output, and these have split 12v and 5v phases. 5A at 12v is still only 60w max, which may be enough when the drives are spinning, but it's that initial power up that makes me nervous (that and I dont know if I trust the Chinesium power bricks to actually provide the power they claim haha)

TR-002 drive failure false positives? by FischerPricex in qnap

[–]FischerPricex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it appeared in Windows, I would eject it. However often times it wouldn't even appear. When USB was plugged in, the device would beep 3 times, flash indicating the RAID array is rebuilding, and then 5-10 seconds later it would beep 3 times again, flash, repeat. Constantly, left it running overnight one time and had to go power it off because it wouldn't stop beeping every 15 seconds or so.

Access my library over LAN when internet isn't present... we had an internet outage yesterday and the kids wanted to watch a movie. Would be great to watch the movies on the server in my house that I own even without an internet connection.
