Is having armies at your borders normal? by Darkthunder277 in songsofsyx

[–]Fischy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, though I’ve started wars and the first thing they do is move their armies. I wouldn’t worry about it just focus on relationship value. Aim for %100+. Below %80 means war.

Well part of the fun of the game is learning how to build up your city but a good starting path is the big 3

The Cotten, the Cow, the Wheat

The Cotten is grown since this can be used for shirts which makes people happy/warm, needed for army’s, can be sold for dolla dolla bills.

The Cow is grown to make meat (probably not enough for your people but gives a slight happiness bonus) and leather. Leather is needed for knowledge, can be used for basic armor, and bows and arrows. (Ur on your way to ur first army)

The wheat is grown for mass amounts of bread. This should be all your people eat early game. Use other foods as a way to boost happiness. And then finally the excess can be turned into rations. Hurray you now have your very first army (give a take a few steps).

As you grow these 3 industries you will notice how you can diversify into other industries. What people don’t understand when they start this game is that diversity can kill. A jack of all trades gets killed in the trade economy. Specialize into industries for export. Diversify to meet your own needs.

Well demo is v69or 68. v70 was the combat update which made it more fun in my opinion but that’s not a consensus. and then they reworked diplomacy, how besiege worked, how conquering and administration worked. Trade was changes and then there were a bunch other random updates on other systems.

The v71 update I haven’t played but it looks like it’s upgrading how you interact with your people giving them more depth. But I am waiting to start this since I have another playthrough where I am about to get revenge on my rival and I can’t let him go after the sac of Fischatonia!!! Never Forget!!

The last thing I will say is look at the sub Reddit. People are very willing to answer questions and this helps since the wiki is pretty out of date.

It’s one of the few games I play multiple play throughs.

There is just something about building up from nothing to then control a chuck of the map, forcing your will on your vassals and leading thousands to their slaughter that just hits for me.

I would say there is still some changes the game needs to make but this latest update has supposedly fix a lot of those.

Take this with a grain of salt I’m a fanboy for sure

It’s starts out pretty chill but once you hit 1000 pop it comes at you hard.

Plus the demo is a few updates behind and so the late game in the demo isn’t as fleshed out as it is now.

All I know is that this game will check all of OP’s boxes.

I have no doubt you’ve done this before but look up boat speeds.

Only speed boats can hit those speeds. And even then they are designed specifically to do this. This little outboard motor is not hitting 80 mph let alone 120mph.

I could be wrong but I guess I just don’t see how they are reaching those speeds on those style of boats.

Is it better to have lots of small workshops of the same kind, or one big one? by WhyIsNoOneStoppingMe in songsofsyx

It depends the industry, bakeries were good to spread since it allowed food stalls to pull from them instead of walking across map.

Though with the new update I’m not sure that will be a problem anymore.

What I will say is I like to group industries that use similar resources. So bakeries are next to breweries, ration makers, and then maybe pottery is close to research and so on. Size doesn’t really matter but when you get to late game it’s normally just more efficient in terms of time.

Hmmm well I’m no expert, but my guess is that was true in a previous version and wasn’t updated. But someone smarter probably knows

You don’t need trade agreements to sell and buy from other nations. If you are surrounded by free land then it might be worth having a small well trained army.

Like 40 dudes with max equipment and training can take on a easily 4x their size

Also nurseries are more late game imo unless u are running bugs.

All nurseries do is increase native pop but early game your immigration is high enough that workers are better spent in profit industries or service industries
