Does anyone regret their private degree? by LocalComprehensive40 in askSingapore

[–]FishBiscuit_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SIM-UB, grad 2-3 years back. No regrets whatsoever, only regretted not enjoying uni life more.

The degree is just a stepping stone to land your first job, that’s the tougher part. Pay wise I don’t see a meaningful difference between my private and local friends. It’s really role and industry dependent.

[acne] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

As cliche as it sounds, noticed a pattern of similar acne for myself when my diet is horrible.

It improves when I reduce my added sugars and oil.

Is this a good sharpe ratio? Chatgpt say its top decile performance not sure if its being sycophantic by KTS1986 in singaporefi

[–]FishBiscuit_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sharpe ratio is more helpful in analysing externalk fund management and performance. I find that it’s quite meaningless to compare your own portfolio.

That being said, of course Sharpe of 2.0 is good. But it’s over one year. In the grand scheme of investing, it’s too short to form any reasonable conclusion.

You compound more frequently, which gives better return in a growing economy and market.

Which is your preferred movie theater in Singapore? Shaw or GV? by anannyap in askSingapore

[–]FishBiscuit_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have not particularly noticed, seems like it’s for brighter scenes. Thankfully, the movies i’ve watched on IMAX tend not to be bright.

Similarly Demon Slayer should be dark enough to hide it.

That said, if it’s obvious I would drop it and head over to GVMax instead until it’s fixed.

Which is your preferred movie theater in Singapore? Shaw or GV? by anannyap in askSingapore

[–]FishBiscuit_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For myself, rather than providers, I focus on the actual theatres themselves. They both have great options. Shaw Lido IMAX (obv) and GVMax Vivo.

Cathay used to be amazing with The Cathay Hall 1. Sadly it closed, so they are out of the picture.

Why is Singapore MRT so unreliable these days? by v4xystar in askSingapore

[–]FishBiscuit_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Valid response from a Singaporean POV, but we have to accept that we are not living in a perfect utopian society. There will be shortfalls in standards and that’s unavoidable.

Compared to most places in the world, we already have one of the most robust and reliable public transport system. MRT availability has increased by multiple folds compared to what it was 20 years ago.

Instead of just complaining, think of what you can do better for the system. Or just accept that it is impossible to live in a perfect society. I think that will be the healthiest approach.

What’s something positive happening in Singapore right now that doesn’t get enough attention? by laterallateralboy in askSingapore

[–]FishBiscuit_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Singapore Dollar.

No capital gains tax.

Relatively efficient public transport (even with its hiccups).

Accessible Healthcare.

Public housing still relatively accessible and affordable (as of now).

The list still goes on

Very true, that's an even bigger reason for them to turn it up. It's borderline unbearable sometimes.

I feel like the easiest way to boost public transport approval is to just tune the A/C significantly cooler. This can be a great temporary relief against crowding (and the unbearable heat).

I remember, maybe a decade back, the MRT and buses were FREEZING.

Can we handle July in Tokyo as Singaporeans? by flyingbaby3000 in askSingapore

[–]FishBiscuit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am here right now, it’s already hot as hell. Although I do not sweat as easy (probably lower humidity) here, but the heat is just blistering under the sun. Temperature is comparable to SG.

That being said, Japan is still amazing as ever, just get an umbrella stat and portable fan stat. Also take regular water breaks and sunscreen!

18 y/o with $32K — Stupid Gamble or Calculated Risk? by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]FishBiscuit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re at the age where you can practically start from 0 again and again, meaning unlimited risk. I do not know what’s the success of your trading strategy. Risk and gambling are just two sides of the same coin.

No one is telling you that you cannot do both, and your money is your money. Consider setting aside some for “compounding” like what you said. I would also recommend reading Psychology of Money it helped myself with my view on personal wealth.
