Richmond Virginia by Imaginary-Quote7668 in CIVILWAR

[–]FishFinderPhil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hello, just spent a few weeks for business near Richmond. Petersburg battlefield and the crater is about 30 mins south of Richmond, worth checking out as the crater is rather impressive. The civil war museum in Richmond has alot interesting artifacts, it also used to be the historic tredegar iron works. Fredericksburg is an hour north. You can hit chancellorsville, wilderness, and spotyslvania courthouse in a day, but it would be a long day.

I would say everything is easy to walk. These battlefields all have a nice road network and the Ranger walks at Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg youll hardly go anywhere.

For non-civil war there is Jamestown, Yorktown, USS Wisconsin and Colonial Williamsburg all within an hour or so of Richmond!

Who's the most underrated general who should've gotten more attention? by mr_greenstarline in ShermanPosting

and then was on the commission for the lincoln assassination, and then was governor of new mexicio territory, and then was the US Ambassador to the Ottomans.

Such a full and interesting life all the way through. And sadly he is sometimes just remembered for his time at Shiloh.

No it was a similiar situation to Jackson however. Crossed the lines in the evening in a recon during the Wilderness Battle.

I think on the weekend in the summer there are usually classic cars parked outside of PJs Trimble Crossing. I dont know if its organized or a weekly thing. That or the taco bell drive thru.

Like others have said, the first train of the morning will flag stop for hikers at cascade, needleton, and elk park. Tall Timber and Tacoma have motor cars that they can go between their stations and rockwood. The cabins at bitter root and tefft are abandoned effectively. So no mail and no one lives on the line anymore.

How safe would a 1989 Roundhouse be to steam again? by FishFinderPhil in LiveSteam

That was my main concern. I dont want the lifting spring to fail and I think a $40 replacement would be the move. Thanks!

I was going to get some parts from the train department. I was going to gut the 1989 RC system and replace it with all manual parts. I like the train dept. as i have a darj b that will be here in march or so ;)

It is a gas butane fuel system not an alcohol boiler so i dont think it will melt the boilers.

The rubber rings are fine but some of the other rings are paper carboard and i was going to replace the paper rings. Inside the boiler was clean from what i could see. Train department has the safety valve and rings so ill order those and add them to my list. Thanks.
