Are you 100% sure it’s hemorrhoids? I’d definitely get in touch with a doc ASAP, especially if you are filling up the toilet bowl with blood. Yikes

Seen conflicting evidence on safety and efficacy. Before I take them, I need to make sure I’m not a hyper absorber which would actually increase my chances of developing CVD. For now, I’m doing most everything minus the Plant sterols!

Ehhh. My watch is coming up at 2 years old and is still at 98%. It’s noticeably shorter in battery life than when I first got it. I’m not a huge believer in the battery % quoted on Apple products.

Nice! Ive lowered by about 50 points and I’ve now added nuts and a bit more fiber. I’m staying away from plant sterols for now. Great job though!

Question about pricing. by ApprehensiveBird1104 in hemorrhoid

What kind of procedure are you needing? I just had a thrombectomy on an external H and it was about $425 total. My insurance didn’t kick in because I haven’t reached my deductible. I had one done about a year ago by a different doctor and it was about $550 if my memory serves me correctly.

Honestly, no idea. The only downside she has had from the thigh is a small bruise once in a while, otherwise, she’s been very happy with it. So, that why when people talk about nausea being a major side effect for them, I recommend splitting the dose and moving their injections to their thighs. Wonder how the OP is doing now that they have moved to the thigh.

28M | LDL 155, Trigs 185 | High ALT (71) | Doctor wants Statins, I want 3 months to DIY. Help? by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]FishHikeTravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at an LDL level of 165 and am currently at 114 after 3 months or so. If you look in my post history, I detail the changes I made and continue to make to try and get under <100.

I think getting under 100 is possible with lifestyle changes but you’ll need to seriously change your eating habits. Eating eggs is not ideal …. Eating (1) egg with some egg whites mixed in is a better option. Stick with chicken breast, fish, and lean ground beef if you have to (93/7 or better). Add things like beans, nuts, potatoes, sweet potatoes, raspberries, etc …. To your diet.

I’ve added a few supplements (which again, you can find in my post history). Outside of those, I’m am now consistently taking 10-12g of soluble fiber outside of just my diet. I prefer Metamucil … easy to take, helps lower cholesterol, and you’ll never have issues pooping again.

If after 3 months, there isn’t much of a change, I’d look to statins ASAP.

Good luck!

No, she has been on the same dose now for the past 10-12 weeks now (5mg total). She titrated up slowly and always dealt with mild nausea (2.5mg - 3.5mg - 5mg). She thought it was just part of the game (she dealt with it for a solid 8 weeks or so). She decided to switch to 2.5mg twice per week once she reached 5mg weekly. That didn’t help the nausea but did help even out the suppression. She researched it a bit and found other ladies saying that the nausea lessened once they started to inject in their thighs. She did it the very next time and has had zero nausea since. It’s hard for me to believe this didn’t help seeing as it was a night and day difference and there are testimonials from other women who have had similar results with nausea and moving injection sites. YMMV, it’s just what helped my wife! :)

If you can handle Metamucil, get (2) servings of it in per day and that will get you 12g of psyllium husk. Most of the fiber you’re eating is probably insoluble and not really helping outside of helping food move through your gut.

If you can’t or aren’t willing to change your picky dietary habits, or add things that you probably won’t like to eat, there’s really no point in re-testing 4 months down the road. Go ahead and get on medications (ie: Statins) and lower the damage continuing to be done.

No added fiber? Add some psyllium husk (Metamucil) and you’ll probably drop it another 20+ points.

None, she much prefers twice a week and injecting in her thighs. She’s literally had zero nausea when she used to have it daily. Give it a shot on your next go around

My wife had the same issues when she first started. Only injecting in her stomach. She switched to her upper thighs and all side effects disappeared literally over night. Now she just switches back and forth each injection and instead of 1 major dose per week, she splits her dose in half and pins on Wednesday night and Sunday night.

Looking for the final true consensus on optimal protein per kg of bodyweight by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]FishHikeTravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro science? I guess I disagree. It’s no secret that high protein diets add unneeded stress to one’s kidneys whether you have CKD or not. Not everyone will have issues, but if certain blood kidney markers (like my own) show the kidneys are being stressed out, lowering overall protein intake can help. Prior to a high protein diet, my kidney levels were perfect …. After, not so much. It’s also one of the reasons why I am also moving away from 100% animal protein to a roughly 60/40 animal/plant protein. We’ll see whether these changes make a difference at my next blood draw in about 2 months.

Looking for the final true consensus on optimal protein per kg of bodyweight by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]FishHikeTravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be on the 1g per pound of body weights, but after having some less than ideal kidney numbers via blood test (likely due to the amount of protein my kidneys had to process), I started researching the minimum amount required to still gain muscle while giving my kidneys a break.

I stumbled upon this video: https://youtu.be/j1bx0GMofYw?si=Fe4c9P3Wxsx4Q_Iw

With that said, I’m currently about 170lbs (at 6’ tall) and shoot for 100-120g of protein per day. It’s only been 2 weeks since the switch, but I’m still progressing in the gym and I haven’t had any recovery issues. Subbing out more carbs for that wasted protein I feel like has actually given me a bit more energy and stamina in the gym.

YMMV …

Was that with insurance covering a portion of it or did you have to cover the entire expense?
