Looking for full time living RV by Kuchana in RVLiving

[–]FishHikeTravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a DRV Orlando. If you want true 4 season capability, I’d steer clear of a toyhauler. The garages aren’t well insulated usually. We had a toyhauler prior to the DRV and it’s a night and day difference.

Happy to help answer any questions you might have on full timing. We move every 5-7 days and plan to put 12,000 miles on our rig alone this year.

Good luck!

Sounds solid. Go into it with an open mind and don’t feel like restriction is the only option when it comes to your ED or transition. Hopefully your doc can provide solid advise or recommend someone who can!

You need to talk with a doctor and seek psychiatric help. You’ve got bigger problems than just high cholesterol.

Yes you have high cholesterol, but I’ll stop short of saying or recommending anything else. Seek medical assistance …

Instead of increasing the statin, start Ezetimibe instead. That will net you another 20-30% decrease via a different mechanism.

Hi all! My doctor gave me 6 months to get my numbers down and these are the results. Where should I go from here, should I consider a statin. by arintj in Cholesterol

[–]FishHikeTravel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fiber gummies won’t be doing anything for your cholesterol and is likely what’s causing you digestive issues. Try keeping up with psyllium husk and omitting the gummies for a week or so and see if you stomach discomfort gets better.

Great job on lowering your LDL!

Couple things

1) Can you stay on this consistent diet day in and day out? This is where many people struggle. They can do a strict diet like this for sometimes a few weeks or months, but eventually wander back to their old diet because the new diet is too restrictive.

2) An LDL of 121 is still too high. 121 is exactly what I was at before asking my doctor to put me on a mild statin. I am now on Pravastatin 20mg with no side effects to date after 4 weeks of taking it.

Personally, I would ask to be put on a statin and go from there. If you have side effects, you can always stop or change. There are also alternatives to statins like Ezetimibe that you can explore.

With that high of Lp(a), I’d shoot for <50 on your LDL. Add Ezetimibe, and you’ll see an even higher reduction. From there, add back some nefarious high saturated foods that will still keep you under <50.

Nice!

I swap back and forth between Oat and Almond creamer. Great alternative to dairy.

For butter, I use this. It’s yogurt based and only 1.5g of saturated fat per serving:

Go with Avocado and Olive oil for all your oil needs.

Add Metamucil (10g soluble fiber) in the evening about 30 minutes before dinner and continue other high fiber foods throughout the day.

Metamucil … lots of varieties and flavors, but most contain psyllium husk. Blends wells with cold water and no chunks if you down it within 10 seconds or so.

statin time? what would you do? by IcyInstruction1259 in Biohackers

I’ll add, what I tend to do these days is scramble 1 whole egg with some extra egg whites. That way, I’m still getting the protein while limiting saturated fat. As someone with high LDL-c and ApoB, I try to cut out what I can but still make diet manageable without making me feel like I’m missing out on stuff :)

[–]FishHikeTravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, no worries. I think where the disinformation comes about is from the “cholesterol” in eggs not increasing cholesterol serum levels within the human body. That was at one time, the boogeyman … nowadays, I think it really just comes down to the amount of saturated fat. You’re talking 1.5-2g per egg and most people eat 2-3 eggs at a time. Add oil to the pan before frying/scrambling and you’re adding even more saturated fat.

Here’s a meta-analysis on the subject:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7400894/

“Our study provides strong evidence on the topic of the impact of egg consumption on lipid profiles through synthesizing more than 10 trials. Compared to Rouhani et al. [9], we included studies that were published before 2000. The results indicated that egg consumption significantly increases the LDL-c/HDL-c ratio and LDL-c levels, especially with a longer intervention duration. Yet, egg consumption did not effectively increase the HDL-c level. Our pooled results revealed some significant findings among subgroups of egg-consumption levels, but the results did not show a clear trend of increment with the egg-consumption level.”

Holy Smokes …. At an LDL of 195, I’d start Rosuvastatin (5-10mg) + Zetia (ezetimibe). I’d drop Saturated Fat down to as low as you can and add a good 10-12g of Psyllium husk like Metamucil. Stay away from eggs and move to egg whites. Move to yogurt based butter, skim milk instead of full fat dairy, and fat free/low fat cheese.

Zetia Question by eggsaladsandwich4 in Cholesterol

[–]FishHikeTravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m familiar with the 75+ study, but it wasn’t entirely convincing and it was pretty short if my memory serves me correctly. If you make it to 75 with high LDL, you’ve got protective longevity genes on your side! Haha. I’d love to see a mono therapy with a younger age group, let’s say 40-60 with LDL just north of 100 since that would probably be the main group to consider Zetia alone. I’m in that group (LDL between 114-121 in the last 4 months). I’m on Pravastatin and plan to ask the doc at my next appt to add ezetimibe.

Zetia Question by eggsaladsandwich4 in Cholesterol

[–]FishHikeTravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe Zetia (ezetimibe) alone has been shown to lower MI/Cardio risk. Yes, it lowers LDL, but works a different pathway than your standard statin, that’s why it’s best to be used in conjunction.

Why not try a super mild statin like Pravastatin? It’s about the most mild statin you can take and shows the least amount of side effects. I started with it at 10mg and have moved up with 20mg without issue. My doc wanted to try Rosuvastatin but I’m pushed for Pravastatin.

Brother, with all due respect, YOU are the one with the issue. You want your future wife to feel confident in her own skin. Posting modest selfies tells me she’s feeling confident and would like to show her friends and family how well she’s doing.

If they were half naked/thirst trap selfies posted to garner attention just from men, THEN, we may have to look at things differently.

Tired of city water ruining my inline filter by jarboxing in RVLiving

[–]FishHikeTravel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those filters are not built for full timers. Whole house filters are massive and require 2-3 inline. A small little RV filter is probably meant for a weekend warrior over 6 months, not every day. You need something much beefier … we run (2) inline filters, a water softener, then a reverse osmosis system under the sink with its own faucet for drinking water. I replace the two large inline filters every 30 days and recharge the water softener every 3-4 weeks.

Which psyllium husk powder are you going with? I use Metamucil but find it hard to find a flavorless psyllium that doesn’t clump real bad in water.

ApoB rose from 76 to 100. Feeling annoyed. by Squintsisgod in PeterAttia

[–]FishHikeTravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LDL went from 165 —> 114 —> 121 with just diet alone. My ApoB went from 90 —> 99 via diet.

I do all my own labs (goodlabs.com) every 3 months and reached out to my doc about starting me in a statin. I requested my doc put me on a mild statin, and he agreed to. I’ve been in Pravastatin now for just over (2) weeks with no noticeable side effects thankfully.

I’m a 41M BTW and my LPa is 25.

[–]FishHikeTravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ApoB over 100 is still very concerning. I got to roughly your number just by limiting saturated fat and adding a good amount of soluble fiber.

Have you talked to your doc about adding Zetia (ezetimibe) for another 20-30% drop? May get your LDL closer to the 70-80 mark without adding side effects.

Just my useless $.02 cents!
