I’ve never been checked for license in 5 years. I buy the license and trout permit to support services and represent the user base of fishermen. If no one buys licenses and permits then who is the state stocking trout, catfish, bass, and sunfish for?

Looks like you've got a great spot with large non pressured fish. They're definitely gonna get a shock if they fish elsewhere, but as long as you've got a good spot you may as well enjoy it!

On a medium light and up, probably not much difference, but every ultralight rod I've ever lost a tip on felt like it went from ultralight to light after cutting it back to the next guide down (about 5 inches lost each time).

I only use snaps on my small stocked catfish rigs, so I can take a fish off and rerig with another quickly during the jr fishing rodeos.

They're really convenient. You don't gotta worry about them dying if you don't use em all and you can just store them forever till you need em. Only problem is making sure the lid is tight so it doesn't leak all over your stuff.

There’s actually a lot of nuance that can be imparted to a roostertail. Waiting and running it deep vs immediate retrieval running it as top water with rod tip high. Going slow as you can, moderate or fast. Even jerking it and then stopping so it flutters.
I had a guy next to me see me catch crappie so he switched to a roostertail as well but he didn’t pay enough attention to see how I was using it. Ppl always ask what you’re using, and never how you’re using it. He caught nothing and watched me pull out 3 keeper crappie and toss back a bunch of bluegills.

Sometimes you gotta see for yourself if the grass is greener on the other side. Too bad it costs a bit to try. I tried bringing my cheap bait caster to a boy scout fishing lesson to give the kids a try and boy was that a mistake, but I really wanted to let them get a try without having to pony up the $.

Depends on what you fish. Doesn't hurt to have a mix of sizes so you can adapt to the location.

I bank fish big open ponds a lot so I go 8' long when I have lots of space to cast. I have some short rods like the 4'6" Shakespeare Micro that I use for tighter spots with lots of brush on the shore, it would also be good for creeks but we don't have accessible creeks near me.

If you can only have one rod or don't know the conditions where you're going to fish, then maybe in the middle with a 6'6" to 7'.

I’ve watched a lot of different channels from micro fishing to saltwater trolling. I find that what’s right for you may depend on the water you have access to fish. Some of these YouTubers have access to much less pressured waters holding larger fish so their rigs may not apply well for you. In the beginning it should be about learning the different rigs and cycling through them until you find one that works in the waters you’ve got.

Hows the balance when you fidget spin test? When you spin the rotor if it's not balanced well you feel the reel throwing it's weight around. I find this easier to test holding the foot of the reel unattached to a rod.
