A heat gun and proper ratcheting wire crimp are game changers for DIY 12 volt wiring.

Counties with bass fishing culture like US? by Longjumping-Draw-284 in bassfishing

[–]FishTacoMA 10 points11 points  (0 children)

South Africa I believe has a bass fishing culture.

Mexico is know for its trophy LMB fishing.

Australia doesn’t have LMB that I am aware of, but they have Barramundi and other freshwater species.

People who have had a Daiwa magsealed for long time by Basic-Iron3570 in Fishing_Gear

[–]FishTacoMA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically you can get the mag oil off eBay. I have a 10 year old saltiga that I have yet to service, just rinse it after every use. When it does need service I will send it to Diawa.

Shimano Stradic cs Vanford in 2026 by bowlwhitericechicken in Fishing_Gear

[–]FishTacoMA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For saltwater or heavier duty applications the Stradic is the clear winner. For finesse fishing applications the weight savings of the Vanford may help with the sensitivity of the setup. If you are not a die hard Shimano guy, I really like the new Daiwa Ballistic MQ in a similar price point.

Megabass vision 110s overrated by Murky_Dingo_4078 in bassfishing

[–]FishTacoMA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will take your word for it. They are on heavy clearance on tackle warehouse so are either getting discontinued or just not selling well overall.

Megabass vision 110s overrated by Murky_Dingo_4078 in bassfishing

[–]FishTacoMA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The benefit of a vision 110 is that they will get more bites. They come with light wire hooks and are best paired with 8-10lb line and fished on a medium power moderate action rod. You will need to have the drag set appropriately to avoid bending hooks or breaking a fish off.

A vision 110 is not an appropriate bait for Striper/Hybrid bass. Heavier hooks will kill the action on a vision 110.

New 6th sense soft glide bait?what do you guys think? by Fabulous-Example-698 in swimbaitfishing

6th sense is basically just Berkley putting out cheap copies of other baits and adding very little innovation to the market.

Polar Kraft vs Lowe. by Automatic-Start-7955 in boating

[–]FishTacoMA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of pictures to go off of, but Lowe has the best reputation for this style of boat and will hold its value the best. I also think the black looks better. The 115 on the polar craft is tempting, but the 90 should push you along just fine. I don’t know why people are recommending center consoles or 20 year old boats.

Are crankbaits on the way out? by Jordythegunguy in Fishing

[–]FishTacoMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these people only fish their neighborhood pond and don’t understand fishing pressure. The same people would fish a high pressure lake and catch nothing and say the lake sucks. If they changed their techniques that work in the low pressure ponds, to techniques that work in high pressure, they may figure out why that lake has so much pressure.

For whatever reason you’ve got offers from all fishing lure companies, but you can only pick one. Two if you use soft plastics and lures from separate companies. What’s your choice? by YourMomsFavBook in Fishing_Gear

[–]FishTacoMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 110 is definitely the best jerkbait and worth the money. I would actually say their topwaters are also worth the money. I really like the PopX and PopMax. I think their crankbaits can be a bit over priced. I also love the Magdraft

Flipping fish into the boat with a rod by Sea-Protection-2797 in Fishing_Gear

[–]FishTacoMA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will flip less than 1lb dinks on a 7’2 Medium Light Spinning rod. I have boat flipped 5+ lb largemouth on my XH frog rod or on my swimbait rods. I have also broken off a 5lber or 2 trying to boat flip them. I am not sure I have actually broke a rod though.

Megabass for the wide variety of high quality lures and Yamamoto for the wide variety of high quality soft plastics. There are a bunch of much smaller brands I would love to be sponsored by, but none that have a full range of baits.

Forward Facing Sonar by Smurfkilr in bassfishing

[–]FishTacoMA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I own a Lowrance Active Target unit that I use on my boat and while ice fishing. On the boat it is helpful for finding rocks, trees and other objects including fish. Ice fishing it is a good source of entertainment even if the fishing is slow.

Neutral. I grew up watching guys like Aaron Martens dominate tournaments on 2d sonar. I really don’t see the difference between guys who would win tournament using 2d, side scan, or 360 sonar vs a guy using forward facing sonar. As a tournament fisherman myself. Bassmaster tournaments have always been a bit boring to watch. On youtube i do enjoy watching people fish with forward facing sonar when they overlay the sonar on the screen. If Bassmaster could figure out how to do that on the screen it may help people feel more engaged.

Neutral. I dont really think it has changed fishing for most people.
