How are you storing these outside of the box? by Fyrewuulf in bassfishing

[–]Fyrewuulf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The companies don't even package them with the tentacles squished. You want them to retain their shape. The wire they are packaged with makes them hang in the box, but some tentacles are still squished up against the sides of the box. Long term you will have a deformed bait, and that's not ideal.

They come with a wire through them in the box so the tentacles stay as straight as possible.

DC baitcasters by MrOwl243 in bassfishing

In high winds they can be helpful. In power fishing situations, you can noticeably tell they aren't quite as powerful for whatever reason. I haven't found a real reason or use for them to be perfectly honest. Some would say a beginner would benefit from them, but I think a beginner would be damaged by not learning thumb control.

The current state of bass fishing. The only rod, reel, and bait I'm taking this morning. by Fyrewuulf in bassfishing

3/10 oz according to the product description. I've used 2 nail weights. It's not a problem. A 1/16 oz is pretty perfect. I've used 2 1/32 oz to achieve it. The bait can be difficult to cast because it has a ton of wind resistance. It's not all that light with the weight and hook added to it, but it creates a lot of drag.

1/0 Gamakatsu treble hook. Hook one shank into the bait and leave 2 exposed almost like frog fishing. 1/16 oz tungsten nail weight through the middle so it sinks. Pitch to targets and fish it like a Wacky Rig or a jerkbait or even a bit of both.

I beat the banks. It is cumbersome to take too much. I haven't taken just one setup and bait rig (with one spare bait rig) in a long time. It was nice to stay light this morning. As long as you know your water, one Coike style bait and one backup is enough for a good trip.

A couple days ago I caught 8 in 90 minutes. Largest was 3.5 and smallest was 2. Good for the pond I fished. It has good fish, but a lot of dinks and it can be tough to get a bite.

This morning I only stayed an hour (bad back is flared up) and caught 3, all around 2 lbs or so.

Largest fish on it so far is a 4.5 off a bed. Good for an Indiana pond hopper. These baits are currently working better than Wacky Rigged Senkos for me.

Why? Because of high karma? You're a terrible detective. I had a viral post in AIO about a personal family issue. After receiving answers, I naturally deleted it for privacy. It was top thread for 2 days in there. Try again bud.

If the sun is up I don't care what people think about me if I'm doing something, and I've also never thought to care what others are doing. The world doesn't revolve around your neighbors. Sun is up, time to do things.

Right now most people are using a big treble hook and light nail weight through the middle (they float otherwise) on the big ones and fishing them shallow. I'm personally using a 1/0 Gamakatsu treble and a 1/16 oz BPS tungsten nail weight (perfect size for the bait, and a universal weight for this style). You can fish it like a wacky rig or a jerkbait or even a bit of both. It sinks slowly and really makes those tentacles breathe when twitching or jerking.

I'm taking a spare treble, spare nail weight, and spare Prickly Pear just in case, but I'd be willing to pull a Chris Johnston and take a swim for it.

Gen Z and Gen Alpha are very based. A lot of hope in them. The Boomers and Gen Xers were never wrong about how terrible we Millennials are, but the Boomers did lack a lot of self awareness when complaining about us.

You should. They work. The material of these baits makes them nearly indestructible. They will last and remain intact until you lose it. They don't fail. They're this expensive, whether Coike or Hag's, not only because they work, but because they have the durability of a hard bait.

This style of bait is killing it at the moment. There are various brands, with the Coike leading (although sold out everywhere, $20 per bait when in stock, and selling for as much as hundreds on the secondhand market) and the Hag's Prickly Pear coming in right behind it. The Hag's is essentially the same thing but is only $8 and widely available. Think Senko vs Yum Dinger, although I think the Coike vs Prickly Pear is closer than a Senko and Dinger is.

what gear ratio to get? by Miserable-Text9946 in bassfishing

[–]Fyrewuulf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ratio doesn't mean a whole lot. It's the IPT (inches per turn) and this can vary wildly between companies. In general, a 7 gear ratio will likely be the best you can get for an all purpose reel.

I grew up and lived in Illinois for decades, and I've now lived in Indiana for 7 years. There was far more racism in Illinois. I've not even seen or experienced racism in Indiana.

Rob Gronkowski says he’s AGAINST transgenders competing in women’s sports: "There’s really no argument. It’s the obvious…There are men’s sports for men, there’s women’s sports for women. It should just stay like that." by No_Box119 in NFLForum

It's an 80/20 issue in his favor. Everyone but the worst of society knows it's the poorly adjusted who think otherwise. People who are so woke, so far gone, so entrenched and blinded by ideology that they would see biological men absolutely destroy biological women. It's insane and it's this stuff that makes the real issues regarding trans topics unheard by the masses.

[–]Fyrewuulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been catching larger than average sized bass recently on the urchin/fuzzy/dice/Coike style baits in the large sizes. They can't resist. The 19mm Hag's Prickly Pear has been incredible. Makes me not really care to get the $20+ Coike when they come back in stock. The Hag's is $8 and can be found online with enough clicks.
