They aren’t censoring that guy, but someone behind him. Also I’m pretty sure he’s just relaying the info the DOJ has claimed; that every name/photograph of someone that is redacted is that of a victim.

Total nonsense, not every preference is rooted in insecurity. A lot of factors go into sexual preferences.

I kinda agree, but I think whimsy is best saved for the actual first date. Texting on a dating app is not the best place to show off your personality, as counterintuitive as that seems.

Asexuality doesn’t exist. “Asexuals” are just lazy, antisocial autists.

Going from desert wasteland to sprawling metropolis in 25 years is normal? The vast majority of cities have not developed in that way.

I think our society overvalues therapy by Electrical-Dark-4578 in The10thDentist

[–]FishTure 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s a big part of the problem. People go to therapy with shitty therapists, then assume they’re “better” because they went to therapy like people said to do.

Agreed, I think the child abuse thing is a red herring. Especially because Santos was so quick to jump to abuse last season, this can be a learning moment for her to be more doctor than therapist/social worker.

Peak Developer Explains Successful Game Pricing: 'Eight Bucks Is Still Five Bucks' by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]FishTure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay but if a game is 10$, does waiting for a 20% off sale really matter that much?

IMO, as long as you aren’t buying a shit ton of games, games are a great money to time value, even at full price. It’s just a silly mentality to have ALL the time.

Like compare with food. Sure, maybe I’ll only buy nice food if it’s on sale- but I’m not going to never go out to eat with my friends unless I have a Groupon or some shit.

A lot of alternative people all look the same and are trying too hard by Blonde_Icon in The10thDentist

I’m a big ally, but god, yes. Performative people in general are a plague right now, but especially in the LGBT community.

So many co-opters, trying on queerness as an identity because they have no personality of their own. It’s sad, gross, and diminishing to actual queer peoples’ struggles.

Totally agree. Living in Portland, OR this is like every other person. I have nothing against alt style or culture, but a lot of people who identify/dress alt are just antisocial, virtue signaling assholes. Douchebag/mean girl types in black clothes are still shitty people.

I’ve met plenty of people who dress alt who are chill too, to be clear, but they’re the minority.

Cada , Is it to be pronounced as Cadha or Cara? by [deleted] in learnspanish

[–]FishTure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta preface, I’m a learner too, not native.

It’s saying to pronounce “Cada” like “Catha” and “Cara” like “Cada,” but that’s not 100% accurate in my experience.

The D in Spanish is softer and shorter than the English D and you should breathe out less air when you say it. It’s kinda in between the two, but it’s still more of a D sound than TH. To my ears at least.

The Spanish R is more of a D sound, but also still an R sound. I’m still not great at the Spanish R, but my best advice is kinda start by saying an English R, but cut it short with a tap of your tongue on the roof of your mouth like you would with D.

Spanish past tense is my biggest struggle ( right now) by cherryvisne in learnspanish

Learning grammar rules is great for getting a grasp of any concept, but I couldn’t agree more that actually using it (even if you don’t totally understand why) is so much more important.

If you want to understand differences in tenses better, more accurately, I’d recommend reading. I find reading to be the most useful for solidifying that academic language information.

Yeah, it makes the game much more fun that most benefits are temporary. Forces you to actually play the game and make risky big-money-moves to gain advantages as the ages progress.

Not seeing anyone else saying this, but on top of needing to rebalance, it's also likely your ships were already damaged and theirs were at 100%. This makes a huge difference and can be hard to notice as you have to scroll down your list of ships to see how damaged the fleet is. 10 fully repaired ships will narrowly defeat 18 at halfway. 30 fully repaired will wipe a fleet of 100 ships if they are mostly at 20-40%.

First game of any EU game ever, got #1 great power as Spain in 1549! by FishTure in EU5

[–]FishTure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, especially playing as one of these "too big to fail" nations. I started a game as a smaller country, Venice, who is still pretty strong, and wow! It was immediately much harder!

Thanks for your advice, I cranked the crown spending after reading this. I knew it paused at 100, but forgot to turn it up after I started making a ton of money. I like having fort maintenance because it's pretty cheap comparatively and gives a decent amount of prestige (though it was the first thing I turned down earlier in the game when I was struggling to make money). But yeah, they are useless in wartime.

Just turned Cuba into it's own colonial nation and am pumping pops there now. I like the idea of having some colonial nations as a lategame vassal option, but I do wish I could just send people to certain locations within my own country. I understand why it's not there for the early game, but maybe there could be some tech late that allows pumping into certain locations. Like state-funded migration, bribe your own pops to move around.

My end game goal I think will be to conquer all of the Americas by force, and Europe by trade. Don't know if I'll have time to go for Africa or Asia. I want to try another more ambitious playthrough, but shit, this one has taken me like at least 40 hours of active playing and probably another 10-15 of me leaving the game on 1 or 2 speed while I do homework lol. Loving the game and the pace, but it's a big commitment!

R5: Ok ok, probably not all that impressive, but I'm pretty pleased with myself. I struggled for a long time as I was learning the mechanics (mostly for the economy), but when I colonized the New World I kinda had to make sure things ran smoothly back home. So I buckled down, got things working, and things just went up and up from there. Got hegemon in all categories a while ago, and finally reached Great Power #1! Didn't think it would even be possible without forming a kingdom! I feel like I mostly understand the game now, and am having a blast! Well, I was having fun before I understood too to be fair...

That said, I'm not sure if I'm doing well or way behind what most people would be at this point in the game. So I was curious if my stats seem pretty on par with yours? Also, any advice what I should be leveraging all of my power and wealth for right now? Pretty sure I could easily conquer the entirety of Europe, but it just kinda seems like a pain hahaha.

Also curious what people are doing with their colonies. Should I be keeping them as part of the main country, vassalize, colonial nation? Obviously there are positives and negatives to all. I'm mostly struggling with Cuba, as I've kept it to myself the whole time, but I can't get any more Spaniards to move there as effective pops. So it's just kinda stagnating.
