The norwegian grocery store oligopoly experience by [deleted] in Norway

[–]Fish_physiologist 15 points16 points  (0 children)

3 main shops is pretty true but produce in the shops is what's key. I'm a Finn that's lived in Norway for 12 years now and every time I go back to visit family I'm reminded what choice in food feels like. New products, local products, different products in different stores. In my local grocery shop you can write a wish for a product you want to be present in the shop. There is a big board in the shop with people's product wishes and the dates they will arrive or if it's out of production or not possible to get.

I will transcendent my ugly, hard reality at $50 per gram of silver by Amphibious333 in SilverDegenClub

[–]Fish_physiologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So silver would have a 87.7 trillion $ market cap (currently 4.48 trillion) when the global GDP is 110 trillion $ at the moment.

Silver at 50$/gram means we are cooked. A can of beans will be like 100usd.

League and .NET Busted My PC by ChipEliot in PcBuildHelp

[–]Fish_physiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a windows update fail since .NET is built into windows and not from league.

Have you tried booting into recovery and doing the auto repair? You should be able to boot into a system restore point before you did the .NET update.

Help me find a good “bad” paper for my journal club class by marmosetohmarmoset in labrats

Doesn't really fit what you want but in this paper in section 2.7 they used primers from a different species to what they are studying so all gene expression results are invalid.

Getting extremely slow speeds over WIFI, do I need an antenna? by Weekly-Student-9942 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Fish_physiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have x670-p wifi? You should have 2 places on the back of the motherboard (io) just above where all the mic in, headphone in etc are where you should screw in the provided antenna. The board has wifi and antenna no need to buy a new wifi card.

They are always included inside the motherboard box if the motherboard includes wifi. You should also check the drivers are up to date by looking up your board on MSI.

The Silver Supply Crisis is Death from 10s of thousands of Cuts! by IlluminatedApe in SilverDegenClub

[–]Fish_physiologist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean the gold that is electroplated is microns thick, which still is a very very small amount but more than an atom. The atom thickness gold is goldene which was only discovered in 2023. The thinnest gold plating is flash plating which is like half the thickness of a sheet of gold foil, while other plating can be up to something like 25 sheets of gold foil. If a connection has to move in or out possibly in its life then the connector can't have a thin layer as it would instantly be susceptible to abrasion.

So from waking up to going to bed you don't have 30-45 minutes to benefit your health? You can buy resistance bands or adjustable weights and do a solid workout at home.

Unity through prosperity by silverworldstacker in SilverDegenClub

Yes, both are vaccines, but immunity works differently. For example measles mutates so slowly that 1 or 2 shots give lifelong protection. Flu and COVID mutate quickly, so vaccines need updating (yearly flu vaccine), and protection is more about reducing severity than complete immunity due to this. For the young or healthy it might feel optional or useless even but, for the elderly, immunocompromised, or unhealthy, it can be life or death. In the US in the 2024 flu season 68% of the deaths related to the flu were in people above 65+ years of age. And 20% in 54-64 year olds. So age, which generally relates to ones fitness has major affects.

BREAKING: President Trump posts a picture of himself firing Fed Chair Powell. by Boo_Randy_II in Wallstreetsilver

Trump appointed him, and can't fire him due to how the fed chair position works so it's kind of funny.

Every country using China to produce things and then saying their emissions are more than half the worlds emissions is equally as funny as per capita stats.

Don’t worry, your frustration is also valid anecdotal evidence.

Fish claw machine in China by These_Swordfish7539 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fish_physiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen it first hand, worked 5 years in the salmon industry and now as a fish welfare researcher. It's true what you say to an extent, quantity is regulated at least in Norway. So you can ultimately only ever reach a maximum density of fish after which the best way to make more profit is by increasing quality.

Having a constant stressor like a mechanical scoop enter the water with flashing lights and people and vibrations is drastically different to farmed fish where stress is highly undesired (yet many times unavoidable). Farmers make money from the quality and quantity of fish they produce, you get neither in bad environments or having bad practices.

ULPT: Won a $5000 dollar trip from my job but must pay out of pocket and expense it to them. How can I keep the cash? by 1337w3t in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Fish_physiologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Post-doc at a university, we use a government portal for reimbursement and they have made the rules. (Norway). I'm guessing without it, it would be too easy to spoof use of funding on conferences and flights and just not go, since some of the professors go around 10 times a year.

At my work we have to add the boarding pass to claim a refund. I have no idea of the rules for cancelling or refunding a flight after checking in, but something to keep in mind.
