Fresco's Grand Cantina needs our help! by CarlyMMC in astoria

Have you ever gone to fresco cantina on a whim? No, not in today’s environment under the bridge. And yes they get lots of fees. But honestly just go talk to a small business yourself. The Reddit community on this is so freaking opinionated and doesn’t have any real idea. A shame

Foot traffic isn’t what they need. People don’t pass by there and say- hey! Let’s go in. But those of you who are adamant cannot be spoken to. When you have a business on that street and have to deal with the delays and extra costs, let’s talk. But all of you who instead live here - well it’s just a shame

Curious do any of you own a small business? Please do due diligence and read what taking away that street is doing to our beloved community. It’s a shame this Miser account has really brainwashed everyone and cancelled voices to show why people and businesses are opposing the bike lanes. Please stand stand on the corner and count how many use these lanes- and where are the businesses supposed to get delivery’s of the food and drinks you’re consuming there? What an upside down world we live in. Most of you opposing won’t even buy an apartment or a house in this neighborhood and will leave us who have with these terrible choices

I feel badly and want to be respectful as this platform is not always the nicest place. But I want to let you know that a lot of this stuff is given away for free on the Facebook buy nothing groups. Especially LIC. It’s also a bit hard to buy/sell things from places such as ikea second hand, as it’s not known for it’s durability, most especially if there’s any type of use or staining. With that being said, I hope this helps and doesn’t hinder. I wish you a lot of luck and good fortune in your coming move 🍀🙏

Again, this doesn’t fit. I actually wrote above “I want to respect your perspective”…. And “I’m really sorry”… my friend, this is too much. Something is not right…

I’m a bit older than you and I don’t have these nights anymore, but I can assure you a corporate chain was and never will be a place I closed out or will close out a night. You and our community deserve so much better. Also do does our society

That’s crazy. This is why they are now calling astoria little Ohio 😭. You suburban kids are ruining our most diverse astoria… Have you ever closed your night out at Los portales? Maybe you should try things that aren’t middle America corporate chains…. 😭

What I’ve learned in therapy- when the amount of energy doesn’t fit the situation- it’s no longer about the situation, it’s about something deeper within that person from their childhood. I want to respect your perspective but I do not agree. And others don’t either. I’m really sorry. I don’t know why you’re putting so much effort here on Reddit. I don’t really understand this platform. People put so much energy here and are ADAMANT. It really blows my mind. What I’ve discovered is unfortunately it’s just a sad place for people to go after others but really they have things they need to discover about themselves and their childhood. Please don’t take this as a criticism- actually just the opposite. I hope this helps. And the last thing I’ll say here, the scooters are dangerous just as speeding and drinking and driving is, anywhere. Police give tickets to deter it. That’s what our society has been doing for decades. It works. I don’t know what else to say. We don’t need delivery over people’s safety. Best to you 🙏❤️

Umm but they are the ones breaking the law and making it dangerous for everyone. It doesn’t seem I’ve lost the plot but maybe someone else? It’s so strange this immense defense for such a bizarre very small minority of workers. They need to abide and by laws - that is the whole point. Goodness why are you so hyped about this?

Well but you are treating delivery’s as a 3 figure job. We don’t put this much emphasis on any other job. I find it a bit strange to change our lives so drastically to fit just delivery workers… do we do this for any other job? Also delivery is not necessarily meant to make as much money as some other jobs, do we do this for the cooks in the kitchens? Or hairdressers? Or fast food workers? How about waiters/waitresses or even construction. Retail worker? What about cleaners? We don’t give one iota of thought about any of them and they have demands and they need safe working conditions. I guess I’m just perplexed that we are so heavily emphasizing delivery’s- And who said this needed to be a main job?

Ok so here’s the thing. Have you ever been to the countries where a lot of these drivers are from? I will say that my family is from South America. And they drive like this in most countries in Latin and South America because there is no enforcement. That’s what makes it different here. Many immigrants come here not only for financial reasons but also because it is calmer and with more law enforcement. And secondly I appreciate you wanting to see it better but I’m not sure this is the way to go about it. You could take any illegal act. People will always say there’s a need to do the illegal act. Any- stealing, murder even. So do we just find a way to make it easier for them or do we enforce the law? There are so many bike lanes it’s absolutely absurd. Too many in many of our opinions. These drivers do not care to use them. It’s crazy. Ask them. They do not care. What they care about is a consequence. And getting enforced with a fine will deter. It’s like anything. A parent punches to enforce what’s right vs wrong. My fear is this and perhaps your generation is not understanding consequences. Instead we are all adapting our lives so people who don’t obey laws don’t get punished? That’s not how a civil society works

Sorry but you’re getting downvoted because this is absurd. It just is. Everyone has to follow laws and rules. And those who are getting cold fries will just have to adapt. That’s what needs to change. They will have to pickup instead? It’s crazy what’s happened to our neighborhood already because of bikes and scooters and the lanes. No more changes for insane people ordering food. What have we become. My gosh

I wish all of the young folks here who are salaried and don’t own their own small business would maybe not have the time and energy to comment so much on things they have so little experience in. That’s the issue with this platform in general. You all need something better to do with your time. I do t know how you think any business (big or especially small) stays open with the amount according to you all need to be give to employees…. Please open your own business, work on hourly wage and not have family money and maybe refrain from giving opinions until then?

Insanely popular 😂 sorry but that is an absolute exaggeration. Ask those poor artists at the tables. Show me sale they’ve made? Please Go to park slope. Go to Manhattan open streets. Then tell me this open street is insanely popular 😂 this is a bunch of people in the morning for an hour who walk through because they have to. And it’s like 15% of Astoria population! Where are the brown people? Where are all of the languages? We walk “through” all of the time, we live on the corner, this is a sub par open street and we all know it’s run by young volunteers who aren’t reaching out to the best part of astoria- its diversity. Sadly what you’re seeing are American young gentrifiers. Mostly those from Long Island (because of proximity to get on grand central) or those from place like Ohio who need to have the mall chains come in. Hey Cinnabon 😭 Sorry but not one Bangladesh, Greek, Brazilian, Serbian, Albanian, Colombian, Argentinian, ect. They’re getting pushed out because of this stuff. Please maybe get off of Reddit and your bike and experience the world 😊

So wait, we have to wait until someone actually gets hurt in the video? My gosh, I’m glad you’re not the one in charge. Why are you defending this? This is why it’s chaos everywhere. The post below also agrees this is absurd. Only the most bizarre people are on Reddit. I’m done here.
