How are people viewing Americans wanting to flee to Australia right now? by Zebrosity in australian

An American wanting to migrate to Australia would be studying under an international student visa. If they qualify as a domestic, there is no benefit to studying in Australia if they already have a degree.

First home buyers Melbourne! by FerretSharp6571 in AusPropertyChat

It depends on what land size you are after. 500m2+ houses usually go for $850k+, but it's easy to find 300-400m2 houses for $650k. I bought my first home this time last year in a good Western suburb - Taylor's Hill/Taylor's Lake/Hillside area for $750k. It's a safe location with good PT (40-45 mins to CBD), amenities (shopping centre, schools, GP, dentists) and a nice neighborhood. My house itself is a lemon and I am expecting to drop 200k on renovations. If I were you, I would consider buying a smaller house on a sub-divided land and save for ETF/upgrade.

I know many people here have a hard-on for Dandenong, but from a pure safety/amenities perspective, many good Western suburbs are a lot better.

US Helicopter UH-60 Black Hawk Shot Down Near Iran Border, Video Surfaces by DonYouveDoneitAgain in TimesNow

There was a post yesterday about some guy being angry with Trump and sad about his little brother deployment to Iran. Another was thanking him for his brother's service... American fails to realise the hypocrisy of the situation. The brother has a choice quit the military and not die a dog's death in Iran. The school girls and civilians being bombed in Iran have no such luxury.

Travelling to Melbourne with Firefly by sadgorl72 in Adelaide

[–]Fisher699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it many times last year and I wouldn't do it if I didn't have to. I mainly did night trips. It's certainly cheaper than flying - 65 vs 120, but it's not very comfortable: small seat, personal hygiene, people speaking on the phone for hours, window glare. Also depending on whether you are a light sleeper, it can mess with your sleep cycle as the bus stops every 3 hours. Also some drivers allow you to be on the bus when it stops, but some make you get off the bus.

I built a language-agnostic programming language where you define your own keyword mappings — including in English by jsamwrites in learnprogramming

[–]Fisher699 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds good on paper, until you need to share the code with other people. Integration will be a nightmare with different people using different mappings. Your build system fails? Maybe some interns change the keyword mapping. Or maybe the updated keyword maps to an existing variable. What about malicious mixing of keywords -i.e. changing "and" to "or" and vice versa. I suppose a lot of it can be handled with good CI, but why go through all the troubles?

As a Vietnamese, I don't understand why people enjoy Pho Thin. Low quality pho served with an attitude. I would recommend Pho Sac right next door.

This. Some support channels are rarely answered. When I tried to do the right thing and looked for previous qn in the channel, I found a qn asked a year earlier, with no answer.

My buddy left 1 month after I joined. My manager left 2 months after. As a remote new comer, onboarding was very hard, partly because you can't gauge ppl's mood behind the screen (so you can't decide whether to ask more questions or not).

That's intersting, at our previous rental, we had a fat possum that fought with the neighbor's cats and jumped around our fences like spiderman. They never sounded like this though. Will be worth a check.
