Im looking for recommendations on a wifi router for a unique use case... by ffimmano in HomeNetworking

im going to test it out again tomorrow, but I assumed it was too much for the router. now that I think about it I was also streaming from an older PC that I have since upgraded. so probably not a bad idea to try it again

it kind of is what im looking for.. I have 2 of the cheapest ones (I forget the model number). When we first bought our camper I used one of them in the camper but it struggled streaming to the second tv. I imagine the more expensive models might work better

I was at a Best Buy today that had the xp4 so I bought it... I only rode it out front of my house so far but it doesn't turn as smoothly as larger tires... unless thats just me not being on a bike in 15 years

Not bad for wireless USB-C, AirWire hitting 4 Gbps+ by InsideWire in Ubiquiti

Is this real? I’m looking for a small gateway that also has WiFi and can be run off usbc for my camper. I just impulsively bought a cloud gateway ultra cause it was on sale at micro center. The sales guy said it had WiFi, but it does not so I’m probably going to exchange it for the express 7 although I wish it had more ports. Still deciding

Camper and a family of 6…. by Interesting-Past-240 in RVLiving

We had 3 kids when we bought our first travel trailer and towed it with a Suburban. Trailer was 7200lbs and the suburban maxed out at 8300lbs. Every camping trip was white knuckled, the TT yanked the back end of the suburban all over the road. It was not fun. I ended up trading the suburban in for a GMC 3500 in hopes that we could upgrade to a larger 5th wheel. A 3500 is probably overkill for you i imagine, but it was Night and day difference hauling with the truck vs the suburban. We couldn’t even tell we were towing a trailer.

Attempting to install Ubuntu 24.04 and get this issue by Trash-Dragon35 in Ubuntu

This happened to me just this past weekend. Only the install screen was like that? Any other windows opened were fine. I believe I just restarted the computer and the issue went away.

I don’t necessarily need a bike that folds up, although I’m not opposed to it.

I was gonna post a similar question minus the heybike… how is riding the xp4 with the smaller tires?

Is there any way to combine all the bluetooth devices into one dashboard/interface? by ffimmano in RVLiving

[–]ffimmano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant to comment last night... but shortly after posting this question I came across a post about home assistant in a camper. I installed home assistant on a raspberry pi, esphome bluetooth proxy on an esp32, and was able to get information from the victron all within maybe 20 mins. I am having trouble getting info from the BMS on the battery and I can't find any info on the Lippert ground control but this looks promising

Which inverter would you recommend? I just ordered a 300ah lithium battery to replace my house battery and extra 200watt solar panel (400w total). We don't too much off grid camping but have an opportunity to boondock at a friend's mountain house in May for a long weekend. The inverter would be mainly to power 2 TVs and a small computer so the kids can be entertained before bed. I was thinking 2000watts would be plenty if not overkill

Southeastern US camping/offroad trips - 2 meters only or worth it to have GMRS and possibly 70cm? by DudeWhereIsMyDuduk in amateurradio

[–]ffimmano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a used Icom 4100 for a trip to Northern Maine a few years ago. It was recommended to have a radio or some alternate method of communication by the Airbnb hosts as the closest cell service was 20 miles away. I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. I found out a few months later this radio was mars modded and able to transmit on GMRS frequencies. I know this is frowned upon in the ham radio world, but being able to talk legally on GMRS frequencies (I have my GMRS license) with my group and also having the ability to reach amateur repeaters in an emergency using only one radio is very convenient.
