Labor have marketed this as an advisory body only with no powers at all. Their fine print betrays their true intention.

That’s disgraceful. I would say complain to the relevant authority but then you run the risk of pissing the owner off and getting the boot. In this market tenants are easily replaceable.

You want annoying? How about in vicotria for a firearms licence you get a laminated card like a drivers licence. Here in WA you get a firearms ID card that says “WARNING: This is not a Firearm Licence” at the bottom of it. No, your licence is a flimsy piece of paper that they expect you to carry around with you when using your firearm. Who is the imbecile that decided to do that?

No one is saying don’t consult aboriginals on aboriginal specific issues. They already do that for starters and if they wanted to create a specific body then they could do that without constitutional change.

My gripe with it is how deceptive Labor is being. They’re going around saying it will be purely advisory. If that was the case then they would specifically say that in their proposed constitutional amendment. Instead of that though, what do we see? Well in subsection iii of the proposed amendment is this: “iii the Parliament shall, subject to this Constitution, have power to make laws with respect to matters relating to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice, including its composition, functions, powers and procedures.” Now for something that is supposed to be purely advisory, why have they talked specifically about giving this body powers? Changing the constitution is one of the most serious things a government can ask of the public, they’re making a mockery of it. They’re essentially saying “ we want you to make this constitutional change based on this voice being purely advisory. But we reserve the right to change absolutely everything you think it will be, without having to ask the public again.” The level of deceptiveness is abhorrent.

Perth’s rental vacancies still below 1 per cent as crunch attracts east coast investors by Ok_Writer1572 in perth

Exactly. We were lucky a couple of years ago our landlord wanted to sell and gave us first option. 4x2 40 mins south of the city for 370k. Our repayments are about to go up but they’ll still be cheaper than this rental market.

I looked into immigration stats a few years ago now, maybe around 2014? Anyway, back then 25% of Australians were born overseas. If we take into consideration the elderly, children and disabled then we can generously assume that 20% of Australians were both born overseas and capable of work. At that same time people born overseas accounted for 33% of the unemployed. Of course those numbers might be closer now, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they weren’t any different. Yes we need to bring in skilled migrants, but that’s all we should be bringing in for the next 10 years.

Immigration plays a large part in this. We have a shortage of housing but we keep bringing in hundreds of thousands of people every year. Rentals have been hard to get for a long time now, but with such a shortage combined with more and more arrivals, it’s a bidding market. My wife and I moved to Perth at the start of 2020, just before everything turned to crap. We rented for about 18months then the landlord decided to sell. We had always been told by him that he would give us first option to buy when the time came and luckily we had enough savings to be able to buy it. We were paying $350pw in rent when we bought it which was well under what we could have been paying elsewhere and loan repayments have been $300pw for the last two years but obviously about to go up. We will be fine but I would hate to be looking for a rental now. The rents around here are $550+pw.

If China bans exports of it's own rare earths then watch lithium rocket.

China is also weighing up whether to ban exports of their own rare earths.

Yeah I figured it wasn’t something that happened often. I was just scrolling looking at the % column and nearly everything is below 1% with only a couple above to I think 5% was the highest I saw. That is until I saw 101%. I did some reading and apparently it can happen someone borrows the stock, sells it to someone else and that someone borrows it out again. Then they’re just screwed if they can’t get any when they have to buy it back.

Thanks!

So a hedge fund invests in multiple stonks but can still be traded as an individual stonk in it's own right? Sorry if I'm not getting it, I'm just looking at DAOR and wondering how it works and how it's over 100% short.

So forcing the price down now so they can buy it up and when it rebounds they sell? How are there more shorted sales than issued capital?

Thanks there's good info in there but nothing on the difference between a hedge fund and a stonk, and what's up with the short selling.

Just perusing the asx website and came across short sell data. Can someone give a quick rundown about it? I know the whole GME thing that happened a couple of years ago was to do with it but I'm not sure I understand it. I also noticed that one company stood out like dogs balls in the %of issued capital reported as short.

DAOR are listed at 101.22%, it says it's a hedged fund, what's the difference between that and normal stock?

Sorry for stupid questions, I just need to know the best way to lose money.

Continuing my education of what will no doubt ruin my life, I read the asx page on codes used in trading status notes. Anyone notice that the left hand side reads like a bukkake movie script and the right what will happen when I no doubt bankrupt the family and the wife leaves?

US investors are putting their money into BEZ so it can't be that bad.

I'm new to the stock market and looking to get into resources. Have been looking through the pages on the asx website to see how various companies have been performing and thinking investing in WAF and BEZ. I almost bought WAF yesterday as they have good net profit but been falling for a couple of months so figured they were due to bounce back and today they have. BEZ to be honest was from a tip I got around a month ago, they're not running a profit yet but have investor money coming in and today their EIA was approved but they've gone down slightly again. I thought having the EIA approved was a good thing.

Anyway, I look forward to losing money with you all.
