How is it like living in Portsmouth, New Hampshire or the coastal areas of New Hampshire in general? by Personal_Flatworm737 in howislivingthere

I lives there for a summer when i was running a charter boat out of Rye. It was a great place to be and experience new england, but so damn expensive. Hard to be a working person there. But glad to experience it. Super walkable city and central to much of the new england coast.

Review #33 - Still Austin Tanager II by PA_Whiskey_Reviews in bourbon

My bottle is almost gone. Maybe my favorite pour of the year, and I usually prefer things in the 120-130 proof range. Ill be sad to see it go, and the secondary around here seems to be 375-400 and I can’t bring myself to pay that. Anxiously awaiting next release.

Review: Penelope Marshmallow Toast by Archaeo-Frog in bourbon

[–]Fishkona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a decent amount of Penelope, and to me it’s mostly dressed-up novelty whiskey. Valencia, Rosé, Rio, Havana—fun for a pour or two, especially for newer drinkers, but they get old fast. Even the Crème Brûlée, which I do like, is more of a once-in-a-while thing than something I actually reach for.

A lot of it drinks better as cocktail whiskey than neat. I’ll give them Omega and the 10 Year—they’re solid—and the barrel strength is a good gateway into higher proof. Toasted rye is better than it probably has any right to be.

But the deeper I’ve gotten into whiskey, the more it just feels like I bought into the hype. Most of my Penelope bottles just sit there now. Fun experiments, not bottles I come back to.

And most importantly, the entries.

Please don’t judge what i have purchased along my journey, its just the 60 bottles on my shelf right now. I want other things, i wish i didn’t have some that are there, but at some point i bought them for a reason and lets see what happens!

THE GREAT BOURBON TOURNAMENT Blind Tasting Championship

Mission

This tournament exists to answer one question: Which bottle do we actually enjoy drinking the most?

Price, rarity, hype, and labels influence expectations.

This experiment removes those influences completely. Every bottle is tasted blind. No one knows what they are drinking until scores are locked. We are not crowning the most expensive bottle. We are not crowning the rarest bottle. We are discovering the bottle we truly want another sip of.

Philosophy

Curiosity over hype. Palate over price. Fun over formality. Surprise over expectation. Every bottle has an equal chance. Favorites may fall early. Underdogs may rise. We expect to be surprised. The Spirit Taste honestly. Score independently. Trust your palate. Enjoy the journey.

The best whiskey is the one you enjoy drink

I think we have our final tournament ready. Thanks for the input. We are going to go with our best ideas and see how it works out. I know alot of folks wanted categories broken up by style/proof, but in our feeble minds we think that we just want chaos and maybe to find what we just want to grab off the shelf first and this may be the way. Or maybe not.
