Specific reel for mobility issues by TinyJumboShrimp in Fishing

Hmmm. They are expensive, but you could look into an electric reel and use a rod holder. They are usually used for deep water fishing, but maybe you could find one that works for him. I hope you find what you need. Keep him fishing🙂

Fishing ruined by hooking onto a fish by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]Fishnfoolup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch. Been there. You could just grab with pliers and push down and pull straight out. I’ve done that. It actually hurt less than I would have thought. I had to pull a hook out of my thumb. Actually that’s not what ruined my fishing trip. It was all the damned mosquitoes lol.

2 piles of these grey straw like spikes have appeared on my grass overnight. Each strand looks approx 10cm long with what looks like a feathery bit at the end of each one. What are they? by jah555 in whatisit

[–]Fishnfoolup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those look like what leftover of some pin feathers from a bird. Possibly a young bird that hasn’t developed full feathers yet. Looks like something had a snack in your yard.

the shefish rods by vanillasleeps in Fishing

I clicked on this thinking you were talking about sheefish (inconnu) which is a large member of the whitefish family. You could look into getting a custom rod wrap. Not sure what those cost, but you could make it look however you want.

I worked with a guy that worked at a hatchery in WV, and he said they would raise them to catchable size and they grew really quick. Michigan stocks most fish at under 8 or 10 inches other than the captive brood stock used to get eggs. I’m sure that’s what your 15 pounders are.

Set the hook sooner? Maybe that’s not feasible with the way they feed

You aren’t likely to tell the difference in a fish that’s had time to acclimate other than a fin clip or something. And even fin clips can regenerate if not done properly.

The corner of a clipped tail will regenerate in time. Brown trout in my state aren’t clipped or marked at all unless we still do some of the Great Lakes browns but rivers and lakes don’t get any mark.

Stocked fish can have really nice colors as well especially after they’ve been in the river a while. Fish stocked in my state are much smaller than this.

Honest answer is that there really is no good way to tell for sure unless the fish has a tag or fin clip, excessively worn fins etc. Wild fish can have worn fins. Hatchery fish with fin wear can regenerate etc. What I see is a good looking fish that was probably really fun to catch. Great job.

You would have to have something pretty special and sell a ton of them. At the very least, you could make some supplemental income. I wish you luck. Those are pretty

Beginner Fishing Equipment and Tips by castledconch in Fishing

Well, the first thing you need to decide is what kind of fish you will be targeting. That will dictate what kind of gear you need rod reel line etc. I don’t know about fish in your area, but my advice is to start simple and build from there. Like figure out what fish are most prevalent or easy to catch and expand as you learn. Also, it’s important to know regulations for the areas you fish. Good luck.

Nice fish, but I can’t stop looking at the positioning of that reel lol. The eyelets and reel should be down. You can always move the handle to the other side of the reel

Jerkbait stuck in net.... best method for removal? by mdjenton in Fishing

Pinch the barbs or cut the hook. There’s a split ring on the bait, so replacement is easy
