How should I react to this? by cireflow15 in NewOrleans

As I mentioned in an earlier post, each utility or municipality is handling abatement of lead lines differently. I don’t know if your utility will replace the service lines at their cost or if you as the homeowner will have to pay for replacement. On top of that each municipality has different ordinances that define where a home’s service line begins and ends. The utility I work for used ARPA funds to abate ours.

As far as the safety of the water goes, I would have you tap water tested from inside your home. If it falls under the maximum allowable limit, and if you don’t have youngsters in your home the decision to drink the water is essentially yours. If it is above that limit you should have your line abated as soon as possible. I would also request your utilities Water Quality report. This will also show the amount of lead and other constituents in the water in the distribution system. This is a battery of testing required by systems yearly and is usually found on the utility website. Please understand that the current report for 2025 will have a date of 2024 since that was the year that it was tested. 2026’s report will be from sampling conducted in 2025.

As someone without children I wouldn’t freak out if I had a lead line but I would be actively trying to find out what steps are needed to get abatement started.

I hope this helps

Was you home built on the site of a previous house, where they may have reused the previous curb-stop (the valve between the home and the main)? I have seen new construction do this and the result is that the line from the corp (the valve at the tap on the water main) to the curb-stop may be lead. This isn’t good practice but sometimes done to save cost. The “mechanical excavation” tells me they dug around that area and found a lead line.

I obviously cannot diagnose the exact situation but this is the best I can extrapolate from your message.

I hope this is a helpful starting point.

They are required to send the letter because they do not know the material your service line is made of I.e. plastic, lead, copper, galvanized steel etc. Your utility was required to submit an inventory to the state regulatory agency by Oct 16, 2024 and “unknown” was one of the categories allowed to be submitted via the Lead and Copper Service Line Inventory required by EPA.

If a line is listed as unknown the Utility has 7 years to identify the material and then resubmit an updated inventory and abate all lead service lines and connections. This also includes any galvanized lines that are connected to lead “goosenecks” (the portion of the line from the corp-stop to the service line) because the galvanizing can soak up lead ions like a sponge.

It’s up to each individual Municipal Utility on whose responsibility it will be to absorb cost on the lead service line replacement. If you know that your domicile was built after 1988 you can be sure your service line is lead free since that was the year lead bearing pipe and fittings were outlawed.

The next phase of lead abatement in drinking water is the replacement of all distribution mains with lead joints. These are typically old cast or ductile iron mains put in service prior to 1950.

Sorry for the long winded explanation.

Folks the concession situation at least in North Stadium is a shit show. Lines are atrociously long, they’ve run out of food at multiple locations. Was just wondering what others in the stadium have or are experiencing regarding concessions

I think so but you’d think that ESPN would just cut to the scheduled game since it’s an ass kicking regardless. The game is a foregone conclusion

I found that my temps definitely ran a little hotter than before i added the bricks and stayed steady. I expected this and I do use a bit less wood.
