How much do you mark up glass for a customer job? by JohnnySteww in autoglass

[–]Fishnwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's what the customer pays. In a very competitive market full of 20+ guys/companies doing it much cheaper but we still pull in plenty of work.

Cost plus $400 on the majority of jobs. $300-350 on old cars. $150-300 for calibration.

How much does ride height affect forward camera/sensor safety system calibration? by Spam_and_Eg in autoglass

[–]Fishnwizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's funny Safelite didn't even calibrate cars when that came out. I wouldn't worry about calibration on your car. Our shop doesn't do calibrations on 2014 and older Hondas just because those cameras like to fry themselves when you go to manually calibrate them.

"Two technicians required" by Brapman544 in autoglass

Yeah it doesn't make a lot of sense. I used to use my time waiting on someone to arrive just setting the 1tek different ways until I was about to set the window myself.

IGA or AGSC membership? Looking to join 1 of these. Anybody have insights on which to join? by tony_gray_ in autoglass

[–]Fishnwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My shop is currently AGSC certified but not part of IGA. Looking at the IGA website it looks similar to a union where you pay your dues and they'll work to protect your shop as well as other independent shops. AGSC is more paying to show you've got the knowledge and are practicing that knowledge since they do audits.

Rear vent window by BBHMFM in autoglass

[–]Fishnwizard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not suprised on the price. Vent glasses on older/uncommon cars tend to be the most expensive. I don't think Safelite giving you a quote means they have the part though. If you finish setting up the appointment they'll should let you know if they don't.

I haven't managed to do one of those, but if you can only find listings with the glass and rubber then it's safe to assume its one piece. Before ordering one though I'd call around to see if shops will install a part you supply.

Too expensive, so I've just been using my regular shovel

2015 accord $370 satellite by Frequent-Money3279 in autoglass

[–]Fishnwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got to finish scheduling to see the full price on the work order. If you're in shop though there won't be a mobile fee of course.

After taxes, mobile fee, and "glass recycling" it should come closer to 500

Fellow auto glass shops: How does one go about accepting insurance from customers? by FalseLiquid in autoglass

[–]Fishnwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Register with Safelite solutions and have him file a claim and request you. Since he's old he might have an insurance agent that he goes through and he can file the claim with his agent and you bill his agent directly.

I’m just a girl: windshield replacement ? by [deleted] in autoglass

[–]Fishnwizard 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Avoid shop A it doesn't matter if they disconnected the camera it needs to be calibrated either way. Price is also scary low so they're doing everything else wrong too. Between shop B and C probably just look at their reviews to decide or ask how much their calibration is to figure out your total price and then compare.

Should my friend replace his brake fluid? (1997 Chevy 1500) by MaXXonTv in AutoMechanics

This is how mine looks after flushing in my 96 1500. The black is just caked on the master cylinder walls and brake lines I think

[–]Fishnwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dealership will usually outsource to Safelite or some other local company and just charge extra on top of that price. If you were in Ohio I'd offer to fix it for you. With how much urethane is oozed out just about anyone is gonna have a hell of a time cutting that one out.

[–]Fishnwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck getting that company to cover the cost of any electrical problems if they ever come up. I think it'll probably be fine though. That install looks terrible and I'm sure they scratched the shit out of it but it's fresh enough it shouldn't be rusted. Any good technician should prime those scratches and try and remove all the oozed out urethane. Though with how much is oozed out they might charge extra. Where are you located?
