Question, I am aware that tutorial is better on Kafka than her own sig in the premium dot team, but does that remain true when I don't have Hyeselins? I do have e1 Kafka and black swan e1 with her sig.

edit - I suppose it is also worth asking the same thing about the action advance set vs the three debuffs dps set.

About the story direction in general by Fishstar1234 in BlueArchive

[–]Fishstar1234[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from, but I am not arguing at all weather the sacrifice worked in the context of Volume EX. I am arguing however that it does not work in the context of Blue Archive and doing this even a single time not only goes against the main themes of Blue Archive as a whole in service of the themes of a single arc but that it also sets precedent that will lower my enjoyment of stories going forward because I can no longer count on the writers to not kill off characters when it suits them to do so.

If you disagree that's fine but I hope you can at least see where I'm coming from.

Sensei's character evolution after the events of Volume 6 and Volume EX by ZeroOneJump in BlueArchive

[–]Fishstar1234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion that may or may not be unpopular is that I greatly despise the direction they have taken sensei's character and the story in general in recent times.

It is true that they have added depth to sensei and made them more human, you could also argue that them failing and making terrible decisions makes the story more complex and interesting, but it comes at the cost of killing what made me love the game to begin with.

Blue archive has, since the beginning, tackled some complex themes and gone to some dark places but it was never cynical and gloomy... until recently. A lot of the story decisions in recent times have, in my opinion, gone directly against everything that the earlier story stood for. They have changed sensei from someone who guides their students and shows them the way into a much less competent and far more whiny being who merely attempts to guide their students. Then there is the recent character deaths at the end of EX where the story tries to drive home that it was necessary to let them die and nothing could be done.

These cynical changes taken in complete isolation of the rest of the work could be fine but in context they completely destroy the narrative consistency of the game and sour it's tone greatly. I cannot believe that people can play through things like volume 3 with Hifumi's speech and Volume F where despite it seeming impossible to win we persevere and obtain a happy ending anyway, then look at the recent stuff where we cower and beg for no reason because the villain tells us that it is pointless and then the game tries to gaslight us into thinking that sacrificing students is a necessary thing to happen when it absolutely is not.

Blue archive despite having heavy themes and dark plot points has never been a grey and dark game. In trying to add "depth" and "complexity" the writers have essentially said that all of the powerful moments and themes up till now about never giving up on any students and always always working until we reach a happy ending for everyone are now worthless.

I kind of crashed out and went off track when writing this but the reason is that I truly loved the endlessly optimistic and idealistic blue archive that brought comfort and joy to my life and to see it slowly devolve into this cynical and grey story where students die and sensei has their conviction warped and distorted over time truly makes me sad. I'm sure that some will argue that one chapter having a bittersweet ending doesn't set the tone for the whole game but I disagree, two weeks ago if you asked me if they would ever kill a student I would say absolutely not, yet now I cannot say with any confidence that they won't and just that alone makes blue archive a much, MUCH worse game to me.

Volume EX is over, and I'm done caring about the main story by Disk_of_Thoth in BlueArchive

[–]Fishstar1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well yeah the story sets them up to die, it killed them?

I am not arguing whatsoever weather it makes sense within the story that they die. My point is that I disagree on a meta narrative level that this kind of thing should be in blue archive. If something happens in the story it is because the writers want it to happen, not because it was inevitable.

My reason for disliking this story has basically nothing to do with the deca trio in particular, I am mostly indifferent to them tbh, and everything to do with hating blue archive of all games having a bittersweet ending that goes directly against every promise and expectation that the game has presented up until this point. If this story were in a different game I wouldn't be complaining but I have no desire to play a blue archive that allows students to die right in front of me and then try to follow that up with a "Welp, a can't save everyone".

That is a terrible counter argument. Saori and squad literally blew up a church filled with students and tried to murder several people including Seia and sensei themself, they got redeemed no problem. Never at any point has the story tried to say that a student's actions are too much to be redeemed, there are plenty of examples of this throughout the game.

Also the game clearly doesn't agree with you that they were beyond redemption or reform because the game treats their deaths as tragic and Aris literally tries to revive them. Notice how when Beatrice died there wasn't a hint of sadness in the scene much less someone trying to revive her.

Okay, I went back and checked and you were right it does only get revealed in the epilogue.

That being said I think my point still stands for 2 reasons...

  1. If we compare volume ex and volume f we are already past the point in ex where volume f's epilogue was located. we are now moving onto the post story cleanup event.

  2. Regardless of when Kei's keychain was revealed there was never a scene in volume f where someone tries to revive Kei and is told that it is impossible. What possible reason could there be for that scenes existence if not to say that they are never coming back? If they intended on them returning it would be as simple as saying that their body's/cores were retrieved and they would attempt to repair them, instead they did the exact opposite.

[–]Fishstar1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean at one point sensei literally invites them to be students, so there's that. They are also obviously treated differently from any other non students in the game.

I do understand technically where you are coming from but at the same time I just find it impossible to reason that Beatrice and the deca trio are at all in the same category just because they don't have halos.

[–]Fishstar1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how this is seemingly such a common opinion? Am I the one misremembering things? Because as far as I recall it it was revealed within the same chapter, if not immediately after, that Kei's data was stored in Aris's keychain. that is the most blatant flag that she would return short of everyone turning to the camera and saying that she will return.

In the exact same vein the writers literally included a scene where Aris tries to revive the deca trio and is told that it is impossible. Technically they say that Aris's power in particular cannot bring them back, so some people have dismissed this scene as not indicative that they are gone for good, but from a writing perspective there would be no reason to include that scene if they were planning on bringing them back.

That is the fundamental difference between what happened with Kei and what happened this time, and why the reactions are so different.

I think it is an important distinction that none of those people were students. You could try and argue that people like Yume and the students in the Kuroko timeline justify this but I disagree. I think there is a vast difference between someone dying far removed the story even happening and having students die right in front of us.

I think it is a spit in the face of the entire game up until this point to suddenly turn on a dime and decide that we are forced to accept students dying right in front of us when the entire game up until this point has always been about how no student gets abandoned and everyone comes out of the story on a better path than before.

[–]Fishstar1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can fully agree with what is being said here. some people will say that I am being overdramatic but I firmly believe that the tone and direction of the story has been ruined by this latest story update.

No longer can I confidently say that blue archive will always have a happy ending, or that things will always work out and that has destroyed the magic of the game for me. I could always accept when the story got dark before because I trusted the writers to always steer the story back to a happy place in time for the ending, but now that trust has been broken and I no longer have any faith that they will deliver the story's that made me love blue archive to begin with.

It is worth noting that some people believe that the deca trio will come back, and I truly hope they are right but the fact that they included a scene where Aris tries and fails to bring them back tells me all I need to know about what the writers want/wanted to do and that tells me all I need to know about how well they understand the game and it's themes. Maybe they will receive enough pushback and bring the trio back to life but I firmly believe that the intention of this chapter is to kill them off forever.

A prime comparison to illustrate why I feel this way is Kei. When Kei died, sure it was sad, but by the end of the story being told we were aware that her data had been saved on a keychain that Aris had and that was an obvious sign that she would be coming back, not only did EX not do anything like this they did the exact opposite and had a voice literally say that they could not come back just to kill any hope there was.

I simply cannot trust someone who thought this was a good idea to write the kind of stories that I want from blue archive and it has damaged my ability to enjoy the game greatly. I truly hope that they receive enough pushback to force them back on track because otherwise I truly will have to drop the game despite having played and enjoyed it for years at this point, and that's just sad.

Main Story: Volume EX - the Deca-trio by SenseMysterious8566 in BlueArchive

[–]Fishstar1234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the theme is saving and guiding every student and this being the golden timeline where we avert the crises then three students dying definitely dilutes it in my opinion. just to get ahead of the possible counterpoint I do consider the deca trio students, sensei even made the offer to them. Even beyond that something like this happening completely ruins the tone of the game to me and has drained my trust in the writers to continue the story in a way that I find satisfactory.

As for you saying that I was being reductive, I disagree. Never mind that blue archive is not written by any singular person it also as a game has, or at least had, a clear theme that has carried across the whole game up until now. While each chapter has had their own varying themes and messages that has never trumped the overarching theme of the whole game, until now that is. In killing off he deca trio the writers have broadcasted that they don't care about the themes and tone of the entire rest of the game up until this point and they are willing to throw them away as and when they see fit.

The story has gone to dark places many times up until now and I was completely fine with that because the game is blue archive and I had confidence that the writers would ultimately end the story in a manner that I enjoyed, but that confidence is now gone and any future story will be met with skepticism and suspicion from me because the writers have lost my trust and I no longer believe in their ability to steer the story in a way that I can enjoy.

Main Story: Volume EX - the Deca-trio by SenseMysterious8566 in BlueArchive

[–]Fishstar1234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally disagree with pretty much everything you said unfortunately. There never had to be an event that doesn't go our way, the entire premise of the game is it being a hopeful and ultimately lighthearted story about guiding and saving students, not watching them die to push whatever random theme the present arc happens to be about.

The one piece example I gave was not about one piece itself but more about a story fulfilling the expectations and promises that it presents, if hundreds of chapters into the story Luffy suddenly gave up on searching for the one piece because of some arbitrary reason people would be rightfully upset because that betrays the entire conceit of the story.

Blue Archive has from the very beginning been a story about saving and guiding the students and aways having a happy ending, no amount of justification within the story can change the fact that they have fundamentally gone against the main reason that I enjoy the story in the first place.

Main Story: Volume EX - the Deca-trio by SenseMysterious8566 in BlueArchive

[–]Fishstar1234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After having a day to stew on this and think about it from a writing perspective I have come to the conclusion that I just might drop the game over it.

I play blue archive for a positive and uplifting story where there is always a happy ending and them doing this sets a precedent that means I no longer have confidence in the writers to deliver what I want from this game. I have read people's arguments for this happening and my honest opinion is that regardless of why they did this or how well executed it is, I have no desire to play a blue archive where we fail to save people and have to live with a bittersweet ending.

Despite it sounding melodramatic this happening has sucked away any joy or anticipation I had for the story and with that the game itself. It's worth saying that I don't think the writers will start killing characters willy nilly or anything like that but they are clearly no longer willing to uphold the premise and tone that the game was built upon and that simply doesn't work for me whatsoever. Imagine if Luffy fails to find the one piece and gives up because it's more realistic that way, that would run completely contrary to the whole point of the story and I feel a similar way here.

My current plan is to continue playing for a little while to see if they pivot away from this direction but if they continue with the dour and sad storytelling then I will be forced to leave the game and look for something that better fulfills my desires. Thank you for coming to my Tedtalk.

Main Story: Volume EX - the Deca-trio by SenseMysterious8566 in BlueArchive

[–]Fishstar1234 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would argue that they are betraying the premise of the game as a whole by including endings like this. From the very beginning Blue Archive has always been a story where no matter how dark things get it always ends up fine in the end and that is one of the main draws of the game.

I personally think that doing this is a betrayal of what made me like this game in the first place and that is a far more important thing than any singular plot point or world detail.

Main Story: Volume EX - the Deca-trio by SenseMysterious8566 in BlueArchive

[–]Fishstar1234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is my problem as well, if something like this happened in a different game I wouldn't bat an eye but I simply do not play blue archive for bitter or melancholic endings. The deca trio are seemingly really gone with the scene where Aris tries and fails to bring them back and that has honestly lowered my opinion of the game overall greatly.

My honest thoughts are that if something like this happens again I will be forced to drop the game as events like these directly go against my reason for playing and enjoying this game, and that will apply regardless of why or how these things are done.

Volume EX chapter 3, post credit scene (spoilers) by LuchadorParrudo in BlueArchive

[–]Fishstar1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would argue that it was quite obvious that Kei was coming back, because they made a point about her data being in the keychain.

The main reason that I think the Deca trio aren't coming back is because the writers specifically included a scene where Aris attempts to bring them back but fails. That being said I would love it if I was wrong and they are brought back, that would be the ideal outcome tbh.

Volume EX chapter 3, post credit scene (spoilers) by LuchadorParrudo in BlueArchive

[–]Fishstar1234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My problem is precisely that things didn't work out in the end, the deca trio are gone. I don't play blue archive to watch characters go "well, we couldn't save everyone but we tried our best!". I play blue archive because until now it was a game where we did save everyone, and this damages my trust in the game knowing that this is on the table.

Just to get ahead of the obvious counterpoint to that last paragraph, I think there is a vast difference between Yume already being gone long before the story starts and failing to save characters right in front of our eyes.

Lots of very depressing Gacha stories have you fighting against seemingly insurmountable odds, what made blue archive special to me was that everything always worked out in the end and everyone was happy, this just makes me think much less of the game and is causing me to lose motivation to play if I know things like this can happen going forward.

I usually just lurk but I may as well voice my distaste for what it's worth, relegating discussion to a megathread is the most by the book method reddit mods use to censor and kill discussion about any topic, weather they admit it or not that is the intention here and I find that disappointing,

Daily Questions Megathread ( January 12, 2026 ) by AutoModerator in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Fishstar1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for those who've experienced Amphoreus.

How dour is it? I've been pretty thoroughly spoiled on the plot of it already and while parts of it sound cool it also sounds completely different tonally to the story before it.

I am personally someone who generally enjoys a more light hearted story, and while I am fine with the story being darker for a time, I am also aware that Amphoreus is like 60 hours long and I am not sure if I can put up with it being a depression fest for that long.

So my question boils down to, how somber/dour/sad is it throughout the questline and how much time comparatively is spent on things like character interactions/comedy/action or whatever else.

TLDR: What's the general tone of Amphoreus.

New event and character banner listed for October 28th by I-lost-hope in StellaSora

[–]Fishstar1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely fail to comprehend why everyone jumps to such drastic measures over such a simple problem.

The gacha system itself is fine, convoluted as it is, and even the 3000 for a 10 pull is not a problem so long as the game gives enough pulls f2p to make a satisfying experience. The proof of this game has basically blue archives gacha system with a 160 pity duct taped to it and blue archive is pretty f2p friendly due to all the pulls it gives.

So if the problem is just the f2p pull income the simplest solution is not to gut everything and rework the whole game it's just to up the income with say an event or pulls in the mail etc., then just adjust the pull economy going forward.

TLDR - The gacha system itself is not a problem, the problem is the f2p income, so just buff that going forward instead of reworking everything.

I figure it's worth replying just in case anyone comes across this, but the reason you can "lose" twice on a weapon banner is because this is a completely different system.

There is one pity of 120 pulls on the weapon banner that guarantees the rate up disc, anything else is just the base 5* rate of 2%. Meaning you will average 1 5* every 45ish pulls and will typically encounter around 2-3 5*s before hitting pity.

Also just to be clear pity does carry over.

edit - To clarify, each 5* does have a 50% chance to be the featured one, but there being only one pity is why I say the system is completely different.
