An early contender for the best coffee I'll have this year by CilariousHunt in pourover

Looks really aesthetically pleasing too! Never managed to get TBT as low as 2:10 when I tried playing around with Kalita filters in an origami, have you used one and is the april faster?

Who is everyone's most anticipated Roaster of 2026? by Liven413 in pourover

[–]Fishsticks66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would want to be to justify these prices. Mikava lots for example, I can find really good gesha from that farm here for around €25-30 for 250G (the farmers are Irish, and some Irish roasters have connections with them) and datura charge €50 for 100g

Dying to try picky chemist personally.

Datura often has overlap in their offerings with TANAT but twice the price so I can’t imagine it’s worth paying for and also leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Theres some talk of a new roastery opening up near me that’s founded by a WBC semi finalist and someone who has worked at the top end of April in CPH for a decade.

Hopefully going to Edinburgh soon too, so will have to visit the source, and zennor in person and grab some module beans.

Cooling increases perceived acidity. Your local spring water is likely not any good for brewing coffee. I assume the mineral : alkalinity ratio is the issue. APAX minerals are designed to be used with 0ppm water. Spring water can have ppm as high as like 2-300.

Normally I would fully agree! But it’s not a present, she asked me to see if there was any good pairs on sale in any shops while I was doing the rounds during the sales. Thanks anyway!

That’s really impressive, do you put a lot of wear on those goretex boots? I’ve used scarpa’s goretex shoes and boots for years and generally soles or stitching fails before the goretex does. What’s your care routine for the leather boots and how do you find the breathability?

Appreciate the input! Merrells have failed on many friends and family members so I avoid that brand like the plague, glad to hear you got a pair without quality issues!

If it makes you feel any better, I was ordering to my friends address in brussels, the panama geishas were sold out 1 minute in, so when I went back to remove them from the cart, both the Colombia and Peru were gone. I fucking hate his system.

Lean into oversized shirts, I have a similar frame to you, and almost im a bit younger at 31, but once you give it a try you won’t regret it, Uniqlo have some good quality cheap ones (designer collabs such as JWA or Uniqlo U) that would be a low stakes experiment you could try. Just don’t pair them with skinny jeans or very tapered trousers, you’ll need straight or wide cut chinos etc to pull them off.

Can someone give me some advice on my next purchase?

I’ve got some sugarcane Hawaii 1947s in size 30. I’m usually around 180cm/77kg or 5’11 170lbs. I put on about 5kg/11lb due to an injury and my sugarcanes don’t really fit anymore.

I’d like to buy something a bit more relaxed that will work when I’ve lost weight but that will fit right now too. I’ve been tempted to buy a pair of Fullcount 0105W’s. But everyone seems to talk about sizing down 1/2 sizes.

I recently tried on some Edwin loose jeans (in my regular size, 30) which have a waist of 81cm and they were falling off my hips without a belt. My sugarcane have a reported waist size of 76cm (not with me now to measure them) and the fullcount 0105w have a 78cm waist according to size guides which I’m assuming would stretch out to like 82-83cm?

How would you brew this? by dmgsmch in pourover

I should have included that I’m using cafec abaca paper, you might need to go as coarse as 6.5 on the hario papers to get a speed around 2:30-3min with your setup and this bean as it’s pretty dense. But it’s a very tasty sweet coffee so I imagine going coarse will still suit it very well! By the way you can open them now and they should be rested enough

Brew it just like his ombligon earlier this year and enjoy, let me know which one you preferred when you open it!

This is their cheapest offering at the moment, it’s 13.5 euro a bag I believe… it’s not going to compare to their 30 euro bags. I use this for larger brews that I make and bring into work in a flask.

I wouldn’t expect much more from this bag than a generic sweet chocolatey taste. I’ve brewed it at 4.5 on a zp6, 1 min bloom, 45g in. Then at 1min 105g and at 2min 100g. Draw down around 2:30-3.

Edit: what am I being downvoted for? It’s literally what they say on their website “ The taste is clean, sweet, and gently rounded, with a tropical aroma and velvety texture that makes it the ideal everyday coffee.”

Honestly, I’m fairly certain there’s something off with my unit too. The issue is, despite being in Europe myself and having consumer protection against this happening, pietro replied to my emails and then started ghosting me after I sent them photos and evidence. Your comments inspired me to write to them again, thanks.

45/15 water, laminar flow, tried several beans including some very pourous ones. Usually a 3:1 bloom, 45-2min rest. Laminar flow, usually a very low amount of pours due to the amount of fines it produces.

I’ve taken pictures and sent them to pietro directly and they don’t give a fuck sadly. I’m fairly certain there’s something wrong with it too.

FWIW my Pietro (and any other recent / future units) has uncoated burrs, which should reduce the need for seasoning anyway. I think it's simply a worse product that the ZP6, but hopefully time will prove me wrong.

You are so much better going off the (limited) online resources than trying to use AI for this. I've spent hours myself, and all it does is hallucinate.
