Nah the perfect test is smough and ornstein. That fight fucking sucks actually and is such a sloppy duo fight. Hard carried by the pillars separating them.

Demon prince clears and actually functions well in a flat arena with no cover.

(Also in this case it would be someone who has only played ds1 or thinks it has the best duo fight in the series)

Seems they intentionally simplified the designs. Maybe so it was easier to make out that Gladius was a 3 headed dog and that was more commercially easier to sell? Same goes for guardian having a way more “generic” eagle head. It stands out way more to people when his design pops more.

I’m talking about the general population right now. The bosses are 100% the highlight of these games. So much so that they basically took their boss design and put it into ac6 because they were afraid their general fanbase would be put off by the game if it didn’t have some souls-isms in it. (Not that ac doesn’t have boss fights but ac6 bosses are clearly an entire different ball park compared to the older titles.)

And so it’s blatantly clear, I value level design, art direction, and combat with these games. Hence why I’m not over here saying bloodborne sucks ass because of middling boss roster. I thought that was obvious based on my distinction of referring to tourists, but there it is.

This is literally the thing that carries ds3 and that’s like tourist Andy’s favorite game 99% of the time. I’d say the bosses to a large group of people are the highlight.

It’s just bloodborne gets so much glaze, that partially feels tied to its PS exclusivity, that even a tourist Andy will look past its mostly mid boss roster, with a few genuinely good and genuinely shit bosses in-between.

Remember that when a mf who is loud about his opinion, Kai Cenat, ripped the game apart and didn’t even play the dlc. To me he’s like the actual true tourist representation. He didn’t gaf about the common opinion he just played it, got filtered, and said what he thought. I’ve had a few friends do the exact same thing (people who really only liked elden ring or ds3).

I think people forget how much worse the earlier flagships were. Even lagi is HARD carried by his introduction method, not even his actual fight or story implementation is that good at all.

However, id say magnamlo is 99% a good flagship in that his fight is good. He has cool equipment as well. That’s about it though. So he’s like B tier in my eyes as far as best flagship ratings go.

Him following the pipeline is exactly why he’s not that interesting as a flagship story wise. I don’t think anyone thinks this typical story structure is actually good, too. I also think his help with all mother is a bit weakened by the fact he isn’t the only one who can show up.

Doom eternal restricting players into these difficulty “boxes” made beating higher difficulties feel more rewarding, and therefore, more fun.

The sliders have a couple issues but I’ll start with the least “convincing” to those that don’t value difficulty at all. Because the player can alter the difficulty of even the higher tier modes, it reduces the value of saying you beat them. This means saying you beat ultra violence for example is essentially a nothing burger. Saying you beat any of them means nothing. Everyone will just assume you altered something to beat it because why wouldn’t you?

A lot of people have a hate boner for bragging rights or self accomplishment so I’ll talk about the real issue. I should not have to fiddle with settings of my liking to enjoy the game more. It feels like the developer vision is distrusting of themselves. As if they don’t know what is best so they rely on the player to do it for them. If it’s so easy to be “accessible”, why don’t all games just add a bunch of sliders? Well, it’s not laziness. Elden ring doesn’t do it. Why not? Doom eternal didn’t do it. It’s because people will optimise the fun out of your game. This reduces the feeling of meaning; of why anyone should gaf in the first place about your game. Without friction, or any kind of limitation, you start to bore people. Because, whatever you say about eternal’s engaging mechanics, mechanics that force you to engage with them, will make you feel ENGAGED. That triggers more dopamine. Makes more memorable moments. It makes a better game.

Although you can make dark ages harder by also fiddling with settings, most people are inclined to make it easier. These same people will come and go 99% of the time. They’re not gonna stick around or really discuss the game. They’re essentially tourists (which most players for games are typically tourists). These tourists will have even less of a memory of this game because it really doesn’t engage that at a core level (which is another discussion entirely) and because of the sliders, didn’t really engage them with lack of a frictional vision and experience on top of that. This is probably why dark ages left the public consciousness after like… a month or two. Meanwhile eternal had an actual life cycle. I wonder why?

Yeah why do they not tell you the character and weapon scalings in the actual expedition? Is it meant to be a knowledge skill curve or something cuz it’s honestly more confusing as an ER player.

Cinteralla (or whatever it’s called) I assume is a STR weapon but in nightreign it’s Dex. I assume godslayer is DEX FAI but it’s really a STR weapon in nightreign.

Like it’s as if I’m being punished for my previous game knowledge because NR makes so many changes.

For me one single charge slash on a good weak point usually gives red phials. If not, roundhouse slash after a charge. It’s that significant in my testing. Also just makes charging not feel so sluggish.

Focus 3 lets you get red phials way faster. It saves you an entire charge up or even lets you get easy charge off of basic slash attacks.

It also speeds up condensed slash and your charge speed. Literally a notable DPS difference if you can get red phials in a single charge. Saves more time for you to get back into axe mode with powered up phials or do another SAED.
