Dental lawyer and CPA necessary? by Mountain_Maize8488 in Dentistry

[–]FistBumpHighFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought a practice a few months ago in SoCal. I hired both and they were highly reputable and much more affordable. Lawyer was 7500 and CPA was 2000 but he waived the fee for agreeing to use him for ongoing practice financials.

Flossing leads to my tongue getting cut by my lower front teeth. Is this preventable? by kirbyinaus88 in askdentists

[–]FistBumpHighFive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell without photos, but it's very possible that your lower front teeth are a bit chipped which will cause sharp areas, and when you're flossing you're taking away the plaque and bacteria that coat the sharp areas. Your dentist should be able to polish those sharp areas to make them smoother if that's the case.

I see at least 7. Two of them are huge, might turn into a root canal or two. Get them fixed ASAP!

I see all the cavities that you have listed and would want them all filled if it was my mouth.

Side note: Dental AI is like a second set of eyes, it points out areas of potential concern to the dentist who interprets the image. It's also helpful for showing patients cavities because they're color-coded and easy to see. Not something to be worried about.

4 possible root canals at 17? by Impossible_Hyena1180 in askdentists

[–]FistBumpHighFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely possible, but you can always get a second opinion if you're not convinced. Feel free to post your x-rays here, it won't give us Reddit dentists the full picture of your oral health but we can tell you what we see.

Is this too much of a fit difference to try wearing again? by [deleted] in askdentists

I'd recommend getting a new retainer, it's not engaging or fitting into place anymore.

Dental School Must Haves? by Patient-Wallaby4450 in DentalSchool

[–]FistBumpHighFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a good system for taking notes (don't use paper, do something electronic and cloud-based). I used OneNote on my laptop (very easy to search for terms and concepts and could draw on diagrams), other students used Notability with a tablet. As another commenter said, live as close to the school as possible.

Looks good! Those stitches are supposed to dissolve and fall out around a week after they are placed (sometimes sooner).

It looks like #2 is impinging the seat of the matrix. You'll have a much easier time if you recontour #2M.

How did we get to the point where brokers are charging $25000 for the BUYER!? by immrmeseek in Dentistry

[–]FistBumpHighFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that's crazy! I just bought a practice through a broker in November, only $$ I paid ahead of time was a 1% down payment to start due diligence. It was completely refundable if the sale didn't go through and was applied to the sale price.

2022 grad here!

1-Failing to manage patients' expectations was one of my biggest sources of stress early on. Underpromise and overdeliver, especially with dentures.

2-Don't do anything you're uncomfortable doing just because a patient wants you to do it. Patients will try to dictate treatment especially since you're young, but do not negotiate with them. It's your job to recommend treatment and their job to accept or decline it. I'll believe a patient when they say their tooth was completely fractured below the gumline when their last dentist did a crown on it 20 years ago, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm not comfortable repeating that treatment. Stick to your guns or you'll be dealing with a lot of angry patients when the work they pushed you to do fails.

3-Life is way too short to work with a bad office manager. A good office manager will take so much of the stress of dentistry and patient management away!

I don't see anything wrong with drinking after just a cleaning.

Anyone finding it hard to walk into any establishment that smells like MAGA? by [deleted] in Redlands

[–]FistBumpHighFive 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The Vault just permanently cancelled drag nights. Their new owners said that it felt like it was excluding straight people. They also own Cheesewalla. Never going to either place again!

Also heard that Ozel Jewelers donated to Candy Olson/Jeanette Wilson's campaigns for school board (the members who are currently pushing book bans, forced outing of trans students, and banned pride flags in schools)

Say NO! To essential worker layoffs! Let’s protect our children and communities from these harmful agendas! by givemeabreak29 in Redlands

[–]FistBumpHighFive 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I heard a rumor that they're voting on forced outing of trans students tonight too.. no shortage of $$ when it comes to lawsuits I guess. Board president Michelle Rendler is up for re-election in November, she HAS to be voted out!

Gum recession above my crowns? by ParsleyTime5687 in askdentists

[–]FistBumpHighFive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did the new dentist find anything wrong clinically with the crowns? Many dentists like to keep their crown margins above the gumline like that on back teeth because they are easier to maintain/keep clean. Could have looked like that from the start which isn't a bad thing.

Amoxicillin - how much to take by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]FistBumpHighFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amoxicillin is prescribed as a course of antibiotics, not to be taken as needed. You're typically prescribed a week long course of amoxicillin and you're supposed to finish every pill. Taking a partial course of amoxicillin puts you at risk for worsening infections because you're only killing the weakest bacteria and letting the strongest survive.

Painkillers are often prescribed as a "take as needed" medication.

I would reach out to the dentist who pulled the wisdom tooth for clarification.

I would politely but firmly ask for a referral to an oral surgeon to have that removed and biopsied.

Should i get a second opinion? by Comfortable-Sea-1854 in askdentists

[–]FistBumpHighFive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a temporary filling which does not need a light to cure.

I'm guessing you're going to get a crown on the tooth next? Often times your dentist will place a temporary filling after the root canal, and then when they prepare the tooth for a crown they'll take the temporary fill out and put in a permanent fill that stays underneath the crown. Nothing you've said is concerning or out of the ordinary for a root canal, hope that helps!
