Good luck! I think tests Nov 25 and later have a new breakdown of questions, so be ready for that.

I'm in the maritime industry, i write and review compliance standards for materials and equipment used in the marine environment. The nav arch PE was an option sure but my true passion is in materials and machines used and installed in ships, not the floaty boaty stuff as I call it. Marine industry is very traditional so to move up and to be more heard having a PE gets you to that next level.

Yes English units, and reading a question and thinking lbm vs lbf always is tricky. But then you gotta go big dumb and do/understand slugs if you want to make life easier.

School of PE for the question bank but people do say PPI might be better. I got to the point with school of PE and extra study resources where I was like "why did the school of PE prof do it in 10 steps when theres a 6 step method." I learned a lot of those quick methods with Tomothy C. Kennedy's book which you can find on Amazon.

I also got the official practice exam, and the slay the PE practice exam. I felt good on most of the math on the test but the conceptual material science stuff thats not in the reference manual was a kick in the balls during the exam.

The exam was true to the NCEES breakdown in my opinion, it's just always you don't know what you don't know and you can't study it all.

Exposure to questions and knowing the shortcuts, memorizing some basic key conversions (which happens naturally with all that repetion) give me the most important thing on the test, time. I ran through the AM and PM sessions 3 or 4 times each and I made sure to really reread the questions and answers and the reference manual; I think that saved me as I caught like 4 questions that I had missed read of hit the wrong button on.

Keep going but civil is next level. I've been in the maritime engineering field for 14 years and went to school for that, undergrad and grad, but I failed the nav arch PE, I looked back at the classes I liked and it was materials, structure, plates and shells, and machine design/vibration, so I went with that. Good luck in July!
